- Round one of the 2024 Pro Motocross Championship took place this weekend at Fox Raceway. We sat down with the podium finishers in the 250 class. Haiden Deegan was involved in a somewhat controversial win after an off track incident that looked like it would hand early title rival Kitchen the win. Tom Vialle was also involved with an off track incident but earned enough points at Pala to land on the box in third.
Here are our press Conference Highlights from Fox Raceway.
You can always tell when an interviewer asked great questions....mainly because the riders have a lot to say in response. Jase is awesome. Its so obvious that he has a deep passion and interest in the sport. That, and his knowledge of the sport, results in interviews that make the other interviewers look unprepared and uninformed. And you can see it often in the fact that the riders seem uncomfortable and dont really have much to say in response to other interviewer's questions. Keep it up Jase. We need legit people like you in the sport.

I think the fact that all these guys are running a sand tire on a hard pack track is a very clear example that there is something wrong with the track set up.
They are running a mini paddle for the start so all that the track guys have to do is rip the start straight (much) less.
And the metal start grate which they need to do away with and starting devices!!!! Why all the rider assistance if they are the best in the world!!!
*Common Sense-if you don't gain a position OR time-it's good. BUT AMA needs a clear direction
Going off track is an rider error, just like in other sports if you get a foul/penalty there always some sort of repercussion. I think going off track you should lose 2 seconds, but in reality they're only losing a couple tenths so basically breaking even like it never happened
What I'll never understand is why they moved to the metal starting grates, but then don't groom the rut in front of the gate after each moto, (or round of heats etc. at SX). I agree Dunlop already sponsors like 90% of the riders, just give them the contract for a spec tire. Then can also keep the knob size down and help keep the ruts from getting so deep as well.

Literally every rider went off the track in the 180 right hander, before the fan tunnel. Then they put the SpongeBob up. The line was going off track

Everyone always wants to say something... in sx deegan and 4 others went off track at the same time same section and deegan was the only one penalized... I'm all about sx/mx following suit like f1 racing filling complaints to stewards but in honest opinion why is kawasaki standing up for vialle... why not his crew file complaint... just saying... someone is always going to say something
If you don't want to get docked a position, make sure you got the right energy drink in front of you at the press conferences.

I wish ama would do something more with ruts in some turns or even a split section so it makes for good racing and passing opportunities where the lines will change during the race from getting blown out.

Deegan should have been penalized as well. Where he went off track both times he wouldnt have gained an advantage even if he was full send off there so thats a stupid ruling.
I really like Tom’s take. The “we can’t do anything” made me understand how authoritarian the AMA is.
Brian feeds Haiden some good talking points or 'lines to say' I suspect. He has matured vastly as of late and is seeking wisdom from some of the great ones. A recipe for a very marketable and successful career.
Keep James in the booth on TV and Jase in the press conferences. Only two people that are asking and saying the right things!

@@austingoodridge I don’t think they all wear them but I’ve definitely been seeing them more and more lately. Especially with the 250 guys! I think in this case, just coincidence.

Personally i never rode on a scoop tire and also personally i never entered a Pro motocross race , just an amateur race when i was age 12 and i almost got lapped ,so personally i dont think a scoop tire would really help me that much ?

They should announce a tyre choice for each round and make it mandatory sand track /scoop
Hard pack /Bobby then all equal and not risking there life on a hard pack track with a scoop just for a start advantage

I don't agree with all the hate he gets, but something about his popularity and douchiness just bugs me. He's quick and puts in the work, but regardless, he still annoys the living hell out of me. He doesn't seem humble. Seems lost in rich land. Good for him, I suppose

They are all about “safety” and making changes, EXCEPT when the riders tell them something they feel would make the racing safer and better for them. Who cares what the guys that are bringing in the money for them though right?
It’s cool and all for the fans but he will not have anybody on the track that likes him so he is going to make it so much harder on himself. Imagine having to worry about every rider. Not 1 off beefs.
Great interview with the riders and totally agree about the scoop tire sucking at Pala. i am certain it was the cause of nearly all the off track excursions

All the old pros are correct, these guys couldn’t ride those tracks like they did. To much pampering, to much prepping , to much complaining now, these guys are paid professionals , be glad you have the skills to pull it off!
The AMA always screws up these calls. They are totally incompetent.
I think Deegan is poking the bear there by taking those jabs at Kitchen. Why give your biggest competitor even more motivation to beat you. Not a good move.
or he's just playing mind games to make him override and then mess up. I don't like Deegan's attitude all that much, but mind games can work in this sport. How many guys go on a tear until they have bad race and then its one bad race after another after that. if they are physically fine, you have to say its mental if they stay off the pace. mental games are part of it. If two guys are giving it their all and one guy pisses the other off enough to ride over his head and make mistakes, its a valid tactic.
Pretty sure they respect eachother at the end of the day.
@@Matthew-zw9su respect and like are two different things. You can respect someone and their abilities but still not like them. I think this is a case of Kitchen not liking Deegan and Deegan wanting to twist the knife and be a bit of a jerk to a guy who recently left his team.
I think this will motivate Kitchen to ride harder and make Deegan eat his word. Can't wait to see that.

@@Ks-qd1tx yes they used to be teammates and there is a reason Kitchen left Star and much of it had to do with Deegan. The look on Kitchen's face during the interview says it all. They don't like each other.

I think that is one of the best questions you could ask! Like you said every other form of Motorsports has a tire rule and I think it makes it unfair for these guys to have to run a starting tire for a racing tire we are looking for ways to make the sport safer yet Davey and feld won't help or pay to try to make it safer. All they need to do is say is southwick, redbud, millville you can use the scoop otherwise you can only use the normal knobby. I also think it would be cool if they allowed each team one scoop tire that they can use at One race per year of there choosing besides southwick, redbud, and millville. I think this would make it safer and giving each team one other race of there choosing to use a scoop would give motocross a little more excitement something for us fans to get excited about also not knowing when or where there going to bust out there day with the scoop!? If you read this let me know what you think?

Frustrates me when the athletes are forced to walk on eggshells when discussing the rules, the tracks, the AMA, etc. These guys are supposed to be the rebels of society & they act beholden to their sponsors. A racers union is long overdue.
Haden had few second lead on Levi compared to Vialle’s 1 second lead on Haden when comparing the off track advantage issue
