WGR success (and I listen regularly) is largely based on 'low key' approach of their on air talent. There is a fair bit of tongue and cheekery and they recognize they are in the entertainment biz (they also seem to like each other).. Not sports business business. I honestly believe that Pat Marsden fully understood this in Toronto and he is sorely missed. fan590 became increasingly grim faced.
When Michael Andlauer bought the Ottawa Senators last September, TSN 1200 in Ottawa were broadcasting an American syndicate show. Nobody local popped on air. By the time, the sports station and "home of the Senators" had this story, it was old news. If I want to know about sports, I'm online. Sports radio in Ottawa and the rest of Canada is no longer necessary.
Its great while youre driving. Or to fall asleep to at night. AM could adapt by shortening theiir ads to 10 seconds, and their content is often too corporate. AM used to have more whacky, interesting personalities.
I listen to sports radio out of habit, but it ain’t what it used to be. The teams and radio are owned by the same company so they’ll never bad mouth the owners who are running the teams and the stations into the ground
Sports radio stations in Toronto should lose their licence, as all they have is American simulcast programs. If you listen to them, you will NEVER hear anything about sports in Canada. I was a huge fan when the FAN started up and listened all day, as much as I could.
Sports Radio today is unlistenable. I miss the good old days of Bob and Jim Hunt.
Best sports Broadcast period. Miss Bob and his Boys SO MUCH
A couple of months ago I ran into Norm Rumack. We discussed the exact same thing. It’s sad what the fan has become.
Bob's hair looks great.
Wish the audio was better. Can't understand it sometimes.
By my count this is the third identical podcast you’ve done with Nelson. One podcast back down memory lane was enough.

Yeah, Pat was a legend.
The day Bob left the Fan was the day sports talk radio died.
@@showdown2006 Agreed. Smart radio indeed died that day. Unless it's Blair and Barker talking baseball, I can't bear to stomach such a weak product.

What Bob said is so true, it's like the jays, big corporation and sports/radio success I don't think is a good mixture

I miss Bob's show.
SiriusXM has the best sports talk radio. It's not even close.
But they don't cover Canadian Sports. It's mostly 'Merican jargon that ignores Canadian sports news, CanCon
I try and listen to the Fan and after a minute...max...I'm out. Boring. Zero personality anymore. Sad. I was such a regular listener.
Me too.
Agree totally

The whole 'wearing sunglasses indoors' thing is somewhat outdated and obnoxious ?
Sports Radio is dying..... Unlistenable miss dudes like Niel McCrea,Al Davidson,Jim Cox out here in B.C.
I don't listen to sports radio much anymore. It's become boriing most of the time.
