Red Velvet's B-sides are better than most groups' singles.
Omg so VIXX too😏
True
No lies detected
Fact.
Yeah. My anthem is ZOO
“Butterflies” isn’t musically complex, but it’s absolutely stunning. One of my fave b-sides from Red Velvet. The melody is infectious, the vocals are incredible on the chorus especially (Seulgi!!), and the way the record is mixed is perfection. I swear, they never release bad albums. It’s not physically possible.
Jos Pupa I think “So Good” and for the same reasons as they mentioned in the video. None of them are as whacky as songs like “Power Up,” “Ice Cream Cake,” or “Peak-a-boo” tho IMO.
Jos Pupa so good or taste
Butterflies is such a cute song. I barf rainbows listening to it.
well, i only have one question for you; you can't possibly be in any form or manner be related to steve buscemi, right?
ishan gupte sorry just now seeing this! 😂 no relation unfortunately
Red Velvet are already K-pop’s most musically interesting girl group, and “Bad Boy” solidifies them as one of the best in the game overall.
Sadly, too much variance isnt really what the general public likes
bad boy out of all songs? so um...
Bad boy ? Nah...
Ssuzen it's basic as hell and red velvet's most generic concept.. that's the only reason why it's popular. their other titles are much more musically complex and actual masterpieces, those are the ones that have solidified them as one of the bests in the industry.. also bad boy is not their most impactful song either
Samy personal opinion bad boy is not their best song, but its very good and is what brought a LOT of attention to Red Velvet. Bad boy is what the general public wants. And arguably the first time the public was drawn to the more velvet side over the red.
*Isaac enjoying Red Velvet's song is a total mood.*
_when sassy me started playing_
Joy: oohh I like this
Isaac: *I LIKE THIS TOO*
0:32 Butterflies
6:42 So good
12:14 Sassy me
19:18 Taste
Thank You!
I love how Isaac is just enjoying himself 😁
True 😊 but meanwhile she is trying a little bit too hard at analyzing/predicting stuff...
@@fumeinayuza That's her job and she can do whatever she wants. If she wants to criticize the album she has all the right to
Oh, damn. Now I called God's wrath down on me 😅
@@fumeinayuza Haha xD
Sassy Me is THAT song though - puts me in the best mood
Honestly i'm a hardcore reveluv and this might be my favorite album so far (even tho Russian roulette is my favorite title track)
OMG SAME!!
This was my second favourite since the Perfect Velvet exists
My fav MINI album
The Perfect Red Velvet = Perfect Album
RBB = One of the best (if not _the_ best) Mini Albums
How can u people so easily choose your best Mini/main album of RV albums??.. The moment i play those old minis say they're the best! :D .... I listen to at least 2 albums of RV everyday on daily basis on my way and from work, so I got to the point where I don't have fav. album anymore :) :)
I knew taeyong was gonna be mentioned during the sassy me reaction 😂
Why? 😅
@@aztre maybe because of the vocal fry 😂
Kylie the vocal fry in sassy me kinda remind them (+me) of taeyong's line in limitless
I immediately thought of taeyong when I heard the fry sound in sassy me 😂😂😂 I do like it though, rv pull it off well too
his vocal fry in limitless is so good
Kenzie is like one of the legendary composers and one of my favorites in general. She's the one behind Girls' Generation's Into the New World!
Kenzie is so amazing and iconic in the kpop industry. her creativity always surprises me tbh
I wish Taste wasn’t the underrated sister that song is amazing and is the definition of RV Velvet side!!! My favorite song along with So Good then Butterflies, RBB, then Sassy Me
True! she keeps getting underrated treatment... she even got that g-funk beat from West Coast hip-hop scene :)
They should perform sassy me on stage, i'm curious about the dance too
Ira Anggraeni you’re in luck, check the fancams from the La Rouge concerts !!
Imagine “Sassy Me” was their comeback I swear it blow up everywhere on social media 😍😭❤️💖
MarkusFeindt IKR!!! I think they didn’t choose it because it’s not as much as a Dance song as RBB and they focus on the whole performance not just the song. But I think Sassy me would have done way better than RBB
hal terry Yes it would and I thought they wanted to promote Red Velvet to America but seems like Blackpink will go to America first since they’re so popular now 👌💕
yeah i wish it was their title song too :( the dance to this would have been so funky and good... i think if they made the bridge a bit more wild it would've been the perfect title track
I hope I enjoyed ‘Sassy Me’ the same way as you guys. Its really the least Red Velvet song that I liked to the point that I did not download it. 😭😭😭
A That’s am true I hope they go really badass next time
RV's b-sides are gold, and their velvet side is the best thing in the world, I mean it's so groovy, so RnB, so funky, it's so enjoyable ❤️
I would have liked them to promote Sassy me alongside with RBB instead of butterflies
Thanks for the video, I love your channel ❤️
"So good" would have been amazing in a stage😍
@@belle-ashton2167 So good it's amazing too, in my opinion is the best track of the album
Jazmin - I think they chose Butterflies over sassy me for performing bcoz Sassy me would've been difficult to compose a choreo for with many pause moments in the song and people would complain that it's not as powerful and they're lacking sync and all that bullshit nonsense by Knetz... Butterflies is a safe bet bcoz it stays upbeat for most of time :)
@@Lyf4rMusic I actually think "sassy me" it's powerful but yeah "butterflies" it's smooth and I think it's an easier song to perform 'cause yeah haters gonna hate and talk about lip syncing and all those things
I think that they also like to promote a contrasting image with their B-sides - Rookie promotions had Little Little, One of these Nights had Cool Hot Sweet Love promoted with it! Butterflies shows off their more mellow and sweet side to the more upbeat and experimental RBB
I really love red velvet ❤️ they are really good b-side tracks 🔥
So Good is the smash of the century I don’t really understand how they’re so calm listening to it lmao also I find it pretty sad to always be looking for complexity in music... I mean some of the stuff’s just made for enjoyment...
I also love So Good! It's my favorite song of the album and I'm shocked that not as many people like it. I just enjoy its vibe the most.
It's that they are students who study music and some complexity is highly appreciated. It's just their preference
Sneha Choudhury I know! I also love complex music with twists and turns but sometimes I think we should turn that off and simply enjoy it!
The point of their channel as music students is to look at the theory and complexity through a classical music standpoint. It doesn’t mean they don’t like the “simple” songs, but on this channel they do try to find those “complex songs” because otherwise there’s nothing interesting to talk about in terms of music theory. If you want a reaction that doesn’t do this, there are plenty that don’t focus on that.
This song killed me😍😍😍
I love rv they r so diffrent and the only group i find vocals and dance good
Sassy Me definitely is my fav of the album. Idk my least fav album from them tho.
Syndicate21 honestly this is one of my favorite albums♥️
For me its so good
It's mah least tho lol, Butterflies is da best
SUCH a solid album, so good is SO good
Sassy Me is also my number 1 from this album. Thank you for reacting!! Good luck on your finals.
I'm glad you liked Sassy Me - it's the standout of the RBB B-sides. While I do appreciate when people let a sax have its full tone, the way it's chopped in Sassy Me really adds to the groove in a way that would be difficult to create acoustically.
I love how you guys have totally different opinions Umu loved the complex songs while Kevin liked the easy listen songs it’s kinda cool I thought it was gonna be different I guess that’s the cool thing about RV is they have so many different colors to their music everyone can enjoy or have favorite RV song no one is wrong because all of their songs are quality!!!
Isaac loved complex ones as well he just apperciated Butterflies for what it was
The entire album is gold. Dont @ me.
No one will, hun
i mean, concept teasers are gold lol
Sassy Me should be illegal
umu: critizes the song
isaac: oh my goodness that's so cool
i'm isaac
Why Isaac always look like he just came back from a concert where he played xD
he's the most handsome boy so he gotta dress the part
Very cute
Y'all realize she listens to A LOT of stuff all the time, both kpop and other stuff. It's literally impossible to enjoy every single thing, so stop giving her shit for not enjoying Butterflies. As someone who loves Butterflies and considers it one of their best b-sides... it really is repetitive and that's fine! I guess when you listen to a lot of stuff you tend to handpick which ones would stand out to you, y'know? And that's what Umu's doing. She has her opinion and we have ours, and we should respect that.
I agree. And it's good that they're genuine reactions. Unlike saying that they love everything when they actually don't. And we all have our own preferences so we should respect that.
Butterflies isn't a bad song by any stretch, but both So Good and Sassy Me both blow it out of the water.
But everyone respects her opinion in the comments? I haven't seen anyone fighting her to write this explanation?
I think Red Velvet is the best group in the K-pop music industry. That's why I support them to the end. Your reactions are good. Please pull out more Red Velvet reactions ❤
now i need a bad boy vs really bad boy reaction plsss

So Good is one of my favorite tracks out of the mini. To me, it's very cohesive.. I feel like the vocals are what's connecting the song together. The _changes_ aren't so drastic because if you listen closely, the biggest and most obvious sound changes have already been happening in the background or it sounds like it's preparing to make that change, so when it finally does it kind of feels like a sneeze that you've been waiting to happen finally came.
RBB is an awesome mini, Sassy Me is one my favorite RV bsides ever, Taste makes me want to dance the Lady choreography from EXID 😋, the only miniscule thing I can find bad is the CD jewel case 😕
i looove sassy me & so good!! i love butterflies too, it kinda reminded me more of a jpop style than kpop, or at least rv's typical style? like you mentioned, their kinda cutesy, restrained singing style is more in line w jpop and especially w the whole electronic vibe and the way they ended certain phrases. thanks for reacting to this :)
I really disagree with this idea that a song has to have twists and very unconventional moments to be interesting. That seems like a very narrow and sad way to enjoy music. Butterflies excels in it's texture, vocal arrangements and use of space to create an intended unique atmosphere for the listener. That ethereal floaty feeling that Isaac clearly got and enjoyed would have been destroyed with unpredictable elements and surprises.
I think you misinterpreted what she was saying. It wasn't that she wasn't enjoying it, it was that she was looking for complexity. They both called Butterflies an "Easy listen" because it's not complex. This is more of an educational channel, and Umu generally looks for things to point out to the viewers to help explain music theory and stuff, and when it isn't there it can be a bit boring. Kevin by contrast was just there cuz he likes red velvet, and he mentioned that he tends to enjoy listening to music that is easy on the ears because it's a nice break from classical music.
@@ethanrichards3238 But thats the thing, I dont think a song being unconventional or packed with surprises are the only things to make a song musically interesting. I brought it up in my original comment, but Butterflies is a great example of a song that uses texture, vocal arrangement, space and careful choice in instruments to create an intended atmosphere and feeling to their audience. Just trying to listen for different/surprising/complex things really takes away from what the song is intending to achieve. I think Isaac did a great job verbalizing the musically technical things going on to create the atmosphere of the song.
It would have been very easy for Umu to maybe talk about how she was disappointed there wasnt more things to flex her music theory brain, but give credit to the composers and RV who executed perfectly what they intended.
THANK YOU
say it to the people in the back..
This channel explores and explains the music theory side of a kpop song. If your'e looking for a reaction based on feelings and emotion, then you're in the wrong channel.
i feel like butterflies is the summery type song i didn't know i needed to get me through winter lol
RV does wonders to everyone's moods ;)
Waaaait exo’s wolf was written by Kenzie?? Rbb and wolf are actually siblings wow it all makes sense.
Both were poorly received by the general public at first (and still are by some) but are in reality iconic and legendary songs lol
monster too and there are more
Thats why we call her god Kenzie. she also wrote devil by super junior she's a god
Oh nice! I was aware she wrote a lot of sm songs but chogiwa and rbb really emit the same vibes, not to mention the whole werewolf wolf thing. But the songs themselves seem like brother and sister 😂
ExoVelvet is that siblings of Kpop musically ❤💛💙💚💜
Yes!!
RedVelvet has no bad songs☺
it’s really interesting to hear insights on popular kpop songs from different points of view!! thank you for the great content 😁
So Good is my favorite b side from Red Velvet. Kingdome Come comes close.
*honestly I love how joy sings in the butterflies track*
In Taste, Yeri starts the rap section, then Irene comes in and Wendy finishes it off

"Sassy Me" was a revelation for me x)
Its kinda weird seeing all these comments saying, Umu's way of listening to the song is narrow-minded and wrong. Like, did this channel just get a wave of new subscribers???? The reactors (more so Umu) do not only listen to the music, they analyze it. They pull out different motifs and techniques from songs and they teach us (even though a lot of us may not understand) what they are and how they make the song give you a certain feel or come off certain way.
From the first time I listened to the album I knew from the get-go that Sassy Me was gonna be favored and Taste and/or Butterflies was gonna be more on the bottom. Why??? Because the songs tend to follow the same format throughout the whole song, the progression is predictable, and the backtrack is lacking in diversity. These motifs will not heighten a music major's senses, especially when you count the fact that they're listening to probably HUNDREDS pieces of music from VARIOUS genres.
I have learned so many things from this channel. I got a better understanding of harmonies, modulation, various progressions, when a song goes from major to minor; just so many things that'll help me expand my music palette and appreciate the composers/arrangers work so much more. If you're looking for a reactor to look for just "feeling" in a song and to squeal and blush when they hear a bed squeak or see their bias is not gonna happen on this channel. Unsubscribe or appreciate (and even LEARN) the work and honesty Umu brings to the table. Thank you.
i agree. but don't mind them.
No
Stan B-sides track stan Red Velvet
I'm crying. I'm early anf blessed to hear a Red Velvet content with you guys 😍
They indeed have such various musically and they pulled it of really well. Thats Red Velvet! Their b-track always blown me up. Quality! 🔥
To be honest I feel like you would’ve understood more of Butterflies when you say the video with choreo. To me this songs is amazing to dance to, it has a mesmerizing sound to it. Definitely one of my favourite b-side tracks
This album kinda forces me to reroute my music appreciation. After a week's listening I am now focussing more on vocal tone colors and 3D sound composition, not just melodies and rhythm. I find myself enjoying it very much. First impression was not good at all I kept asking why they abandoned their superb vocals to emphasize synthetic sounds. Now I can see that they need to broaden their repertoire and those manipulated vocals are used as another instrument. Surprisingly Taste is my current favorite, don't even mind how the melody seems to be going nowhere!
That's RV for you... People(general masses or casual listeners) misunderstood RBB for the same reason... they failed to understood the true essence of that track and just said bye with only first listen..
i really love this channel whatever they say lol like cmon it's a constructive criticism.. i'm a reveluv and i always go to this channel whenever they react to rv's music. they are so interesting! i'm no music expert so it's nice to learn from them
Oh sassy me is definitely my favorite of the album too! You can just feel the attitude in their voice. Red velvet always come up with great songs.
This is my favorite album from RV,. Thanks for reacting
I really appreciate how you edited in the specific moments/clips of the songs to play in the background when you were describing the music. I bet doing so definitely takes more editing work but I feel like it gives you a fuller video and makes the commentary/reaction vs listening to the music way less disjointed.
Please include more music clips when people reference the songs specifically! Also I wish you guys went back to playing chords on the piano again when talking about them! But I know that'd definitely be a lot of work!
I'm really happy that this reaction is genuine. Neither of them were rude and stated their honest thoughts, recognising the flaws and strengths of every piece. This album is really growing on me, and like Umu, I'm preferring the slightly more unusual tracks. When I first listened to RBB, I wasn't a huge fan of it due to the thin texture as far as instrumentals, but as I listen more, the track really highlights their insane vocals, from Irene and Wendy's whistle registers to the harmonies, ad libs and just using their voices as instruments. Same with So Good and Sassy Me - it's a more adventurous album that's pushing their vocals and what they can do with them. Honestly, I'm not mad on Butterflies or Taste, but they are still good songs. I personally just find them underwhelming compared to the new direction that the rest of the tracks are taking. Overall, a great album yet again!
this entire rbb mini album is one of the best albums released this year, facts only.
thank you soooo much for making this video...
can't wait for their next album
I love this album!!! My favourites are Butterflies and So Good, but I also enjoy Taste. Love your reactions!!

those layered harmonies during the chorus of butterflies varied w the staccato sususurudu is my fave part of the song! it's a really typical pop song, but i still love it
So good is definitely my fave off the album, i don't have a least fave tho.
Thanks for the review personally its their best EP since rookie i really really love rbb btw umu you should look for *urban green by lim kim* you might enjoy the brass, something different from what kpop offers today
There bringing up stuff I’ve never heard in the songs, like there’s a cowbell in sassy me!???? Since when
I think RV is getting away from the soulful R&B like Automatic, One of These Nights, and Be Natural, which breaks my heart because that skill is what set them apart for me. Now the Velvet sounds like Halloween themed Red.
(Sorry if this sounded like Rant)
Ok. Tell me this! How many actually supported their Pure Velvet comebacks above mentioned ? They did NOT give them enough support to continue in that genres in anything, especially International fans.... Spotify streams and their album sales figures of that particular songs/albums are the single most valid proof you'll ever need!
But... even after the back stab by us they did release R&B goodness, 'Kingdom Come' ? Bad Boy is R&B with Hip-hop flair...
I say don't keep expectations for a Title comeback with that genre, at max they'll just be B-sides at the best! I mean who would blame them after all this?! THEY DON'T BRING IN MONEY IN FROM KOREAN OR INTL. FANDOM!
Red Velvet's Going Further more weird, is not still fully accepted to korean people who have conservative musical taste. RV have to consider have-no-idea people who doesn't have knowledge of musical theory, so easy listening and quite very good sounding at the same time is necessary. y'all can hear many similar sound on kpop girl groups, like you pd said, It is why they can't be more experimental on sound making, composing. Comparing to this Red velvet continuously hires very bold musical composer who have enterprising musical attitude. I do not intend to force you to love them though they make you down but I am just saying going further on depth and variation for Musical experts needs lots of courage and overcoming loss of popularity from public.
Isaac is really very pretty and im just getting distracted by watching him be adorable and enjoying the song. Lol. But as always amazing reactions as always tbh.
I think so good is power up mixed with all of the velvet side
It has smooth vocals and piano/keyboard as well as the little videogamey scale synths and it's upbeat
my favorite track from rbb is, no wait i cant choose the whole album is a masterpiece~
Love you guys!
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
So good, kingdom come, and light me up are all my fave velvet tracks.
I want them to react on Kingdom Come. Just because the song is really lit.
Finally Umu, you're starting to follow the composers! I'm a musician too, and this has been my life with kpop for a long time now. I care much more about composers than I care about groups.
Not that I don't care about groups though. Or companies, I mean A&R people are actually very important for what kind of music certain groups get, and they often ask for very specific things from composers.
Charli Taft, Orphée Noah, The Colleagues and many more make amazing songs😍
Red Velvet are SO GOOD
Good Luck on your finals Umu :DDD
Taste is amazing it reminds me of 90's style😍
I'm still hooked on 'So Good'. I listened a few times, by my third listen it clicked, I've been hooked since.
