Yoooo! The flute is part of her folk history, and the character vibes. I’m stoked you picked up on the 80s elements. I had done the original version with way heavier synths and a ton more 80s vibe, but we ultimately pulled it more organic. Moana sang it so well. Thanks Robb!!!
The irish whistle is lore relevant to Jessica's (deer girl) story. After being born and tested on by scientists, she grew a liking for the irish whistle because they used it to test her responsiveness to music and other audio.
6:29 I don't actually play reverse 1999 so don't quote me on the specifics, but I'm pretty sure Jessica is a changeling, which are fairies from a lot of European mythology but predominantly Irish and Scandinavian I think. That's probably why the psuedo-Irish flute was used (I don't think it's actually Irish but it sounds celtic or medieval enough for most people not to care).
@@AdamGubman1 damn i'm so bad at recognising my own country's instruments that i had to get the actual composer to correct me LMAO i absolutely love this song though, i think it's one of your best yet!
this was from an event themed around classic hotror/stories tropes the deergirls human friend toled her a lot about such movies in the past and from that she got a unique way to together with her critter friends *like the cat) with humans the song didnt appear ingame but the bgm tracks were great itself and good a setting the tone same with the current event - the bgm of that ... ❤ mfg Olli
So that´s why this song reminded me of Stranger Things since I first heard it! I thought it was just because of 80s-90s vibe that both have (this r1999 event is full of references to that time, especially to horror movies), but it must have been mostly Running up that Hill in the back of my head connecting both. P.S.: the character in the video is absolutely delightful. ❤
I never heard Running up that Hill so for me the sound was unlike anything else, thanks for the insightful Analysis. Also have you heard about Memento Mori? It also has some incredible songs and full ost was recently released, would you mind checking it's main theme - Anemone?

You leaned pretty hard into those 80s vibes. I think it'd be hard NOT to pick up on it haha
Thank you for making more reverse 1999 videos! This game is painfully underrated

She's a hybrid of a Native American Deer Woman and an Irish Changeling
Believe it or not, Kristin Naigus did play an authentic Irish flute! 🥹

The event this is from is a love letter to slasher movies while having an interesting twist highlighted by the lyrics and Jessica's puppets 😮
I really really like this song and it makes me wish I had stuck around long enough to read the event
