Great transformation on the beams, just shows what a bit of elbow grease can achieve. The kitchen renovation is really moving along now, a good job done on the glass panels in the door, Suzie, every little bit helps in minimizing draughts to make the kitchen much more cosy in the winter once your wood burner is up and running xx

Nobody doubts your abilities to get the job done but I'm in the leaving the beams natural. Any painting becomes more of a job that requires a keeping up. If you have the strength and tenacity to just cleaning them up, that's a major great step. If you wish to wax them with a clear wood wax after that, more power to you! I wish I could gather up a tenth of the energy you have to do this overhead work. I admire your accomplishments.

The beamed ceiling will be great. Together with a cream color on the walls it will bring lots of light into the space. The wall repairs are brilliant. For me personally, it is not about making it look like new but being able to keep it cleaner without so many dust/dirt/grease collecting crevices

3-M makes a 3.5 x 6 inch paint stripping pad that has a man-hand size tough plastic handle that locks into the fibers of the pad with tiny hooks. I think that tool would allow you to cover much more space per hour cleaning the beams. You're doing a beautiful job. Always enjoy the videos.

I have a firm scrubbing brush which is helping work the bicarb solution into the wood and making the cleaning easier but I will take a look and see if they are available over here. That is an awesome job on your beams. So glad you had a nice visit with your sisters. I am sure seeing your sister's gave you a boost both. I don't travel since 2016 due to health and costand I have a huge family back east who I miss but we keep in close contact. The garden is looking great. I like painting the beams and ceiling boards because it will lift and lighten the whole room. If you got the beams to a very light wood tone then paint only the ceiling boards . My two cents ❣️❣️❣️

I've been away from RUclips for a couple of months. So the past few days I've been catching up on your vlog. I see a marked improvement in your production and editing style. Bicoarbonate of soda with amonia works even faster but the fumes can overwhelming. You both are doing a great job. I have just recently learned that when applying kit that it is best to use pull tequnieque instead of push. This way you get a more raven spread. Hope this helps.

The beams look wonderful. Do a second treatment of the beam closest to the fireplace. It should come up lighter still. The bonus with the bicarb treatment is it is nontoxic and a pleasant odor when in use. Just lightening the ceiling is making a huge improvement in the room's ambiance. The kitchen diner is going to be beautiful! Have you thought about using insulated drywall under the floorboards to help with sound?

I was going to suggest you get the beams sandblasted then you said you had thought about it, but you have done an amazing job👍 well done both of you 👍😊🦫🦥🦖🦧🦑🦤😻🏴
Thanks Dave, we just didn't fancy the mess or cost of sandblasting. This solution allows us to do a couple at a time without the big clean up each time. Hopefully we'll be having christmas dinner under our new ceiling in front of our nice warm log burner 🤞 All the best to you, Rols and Suzie

Love the way the beams are working out. So glad your not going to paint them. I'll remember that recipe for the wood cleaning. I have used the bleach before never tried the bicarb.

I’ve used Epsom salts, or bicarbonate of soda, with white vinegar and a dash of washing up liquid, it has worked beautifully. I also use this mixture for weeds too, harmless to pets! Good luck, Kris in New Forest Hampshire x

I always enjoy your vlogs, and somehow this one seemed even better to me! It must be such a huge effort to get the filming and editing done, adding in music, etc. Well done! The kitchen beams - wow!!! What a transformation. Reminding us that the yard work still needs doing, by a short excellent clip showing your teamwork, was a good interlude. You both show patience and perseverance and that seems to be what it takes to own such an historic monument!

Hi Susy and Rose, what a great job. So much work, wow! What a great team you two are! I hate to say anything negative, but when it comes to health I have to. Mixing bleach and vinegar is very dangerous. Bleach mixed with anything is not good even in small amounts. I used to make( chemical cocktails) in my laundry room too. Until the fumes got me to do some research. Sending you only best wishes and good health. Just google vinegar and bleach. Hope I did not offend you, not my intention.

Have you thought of sanding the beams ever so lightly? Attaching a hose to a shop vac to pick up the dust!

I don't envy you the job of cleaning the beams!! But they look great so well worth all your hard work!! What will you do between the beams; ie will you be able to line out the ceiling between beams with plasterboard so as to save stripping the soot and grime off? Good to see little Lexi is really coming out of her shell now, and she seems devoted to Susie.

Hey guys....have you tried a steam cleaner? I have a cheap one which I use with baking soda and vinegar let the solution foam up then dry and steam off...no rubbing...works really well on stone floors as well...looking good..

What a wonderful way to clean aged beams, they look beautiful. What ratio of bicarb/water/vinegar/bleach did you use?
Thank you Theresa. Glad you liked the transformation of the beams. Very approximately, 5 parts bicarb to 1 part bleach and then mixed into a paste with water, (no vinegar in this mixture). Once you have worked that in to the item you can rinse it of with a mixture of water and vinegar, roughly 50/50. Don't mix vinegar and bleach together it can become very toxic, but it is ok to rinse off the bicarb/bleach mixture with the water and vinegar solution. Have a great week, Suzie and Rols
Have you about sanding them down?
Hi Lisa, thank you for watching. It would take a lot of sanding and the dust would be horrendous and we are using the kitchen daily so we are trying to avoid the mess. A little sanding here and there ie on the lintels etc we can cope with but not the amount that would be necessary for the beams. Best wishes to you, Suzie and Rols
Is sandblasting the beams/ceiling an option?
Thank you for watching. We have considered sandblasting but it is very expensive and very messy. We're not in a hurry therefore this seems to be a cost effective and sensible solution. Have a great week, Suzie and Rols
heres a neat trick try a solution of elmers glue, not paste. It takes the wet iol paint out of artists paint brushes. you should hear my theory on saving wildlife caught in an oil slick 🥸
