I love how the difference in tone between the current two prime soul themes perfectly sum up the difference between Minos and Sisyphus.
Minos' theme, while grand and fast, has a layer of sadness and desperation behind it all. This describes Minos' mourning of those he failed to protect, and his desire to take revenge on behalf of them.
Sisyphus' theme, on the other hand, takes the grandeur of the previous prime theme and ditches the melancholy in favor of cranking up the speed and power of the song. This describes how Sisyphus could not care less if he dies, he just wants to go out swinging and defying heaven in any way possible
I love storytelling through music
I find it interesting how the man who cheated death multiple times actually doesn't really care if he lives or dies. But it makes sense. What truly drives his actions is defiance. Defiance against the impossible. He knew he couldn't win against heaven, but waged war against them regardless. He knew the boulder would just roll back down, but he still pushed it. He could've probably escaped the Flesh Panopticon at any time, I'm sure. He could've taken revenge on heaven if he wanted to. But Sisyphus is not the great, benevolent king that Minos was. He is selfish, greedy and deceitful. He would rather face an unstoppable weapon of mass carnage, one that can rival heaven's greatest fears. He is a fitting boss for such a ridiculously difficult level to both unlock and beat, as he mirrors the players who will fight him in the first place: those who find pleasure in challenging the insurmountable. Sisyphus was human to his very core, and he was happy.
the story for sisyphus is also added on by his bloodstained hands, literally.
@@lonelyshpee7873 thats why i personally put him in based tier
@@lonelyshpee7873 intentional or not, the comparison to the player was a very nice thing to point out. Personally I thought it impossible to P-rank any stage in ultrakill but I pushed it just so I could face Sisyphus when he finally got released
@@lonelyshpee7873 That's something I've noticed Ultrakill does very often, portraying mythological figures as polar opposites of their original depictions in several ways. Minos is also a complete inversion of both the ruthless judge of Hell he was in the _Divine Comedy_ and the arrogant king of Crete he was in Greek mythology, and of course there's Heaven as a whole.
I don’t know which is more badass, “thy punishment is death” or “This prison… to hold… ME?”
*Both.*
Both, both is good.
Why can't we just have both?
Alright. We shall have both as the most badass lines in the game.
Both is great, but as a character i believe sisyphus is more badass.

we all knew that the boss would be sisyphus and that he'd have the sands of tide leitmotif, and hakita still made it go insane
What's funny is that a lot of fanmade versions were just Sands of the Tide remixes. Here, the leitmotif is used with much more subtlety, which I prefer. You can also hear a bit of ORDER and unstoppable force in there, which I really like.
@@lonelyshpee7873where did you hear into the fire?
@@chiefbeef2730 actually it's unstoppable force, sorry 7:59
@@lonelyshpee7873that ain't a leitmotif it just coincidentally sounds similar
@@lonelyshpee7873 what REALLY caught me off guard was the fact that the leitmotif is in 12/4. you can still tell it's sands of tide but here it feels a lot more like a dance, perfect for a beautifully choreographed fight between two methodical badasses
I thought i was a pro, after P-ranking Minos Prime, but HE tore me apart and scattered my remains
Dude the level itself too
He tore you apart, incinerated your remains with that GOD DAMNED SUN, and then spread them around heaven as he beats the shit out of as many angels as he can.
We were all like that. I have yet to P rank P-2 on Standard and I can P rank P-1 on a violent with relative ease.
One flaw I’ve noticed within myself is that I was too good with Minos Prime, but not too good with Cyber Grind. I’m glad hakita included lots of Cyber Grind aspects in P-2
Sisyphus Prime has his limits, however.

I reloaded the playlist as soon as I saw P-2 was out.
on my first battle with this guy when i beat him (after hundreds of attempts) i thought there was gonna be a nother phase when he said "and i dont regret a SECOND of it" i litterally thought he was gonna go all out in his last moment and pure terror entered my soul
holy shit if sisyphus had another phase like that, it would be absolute nuts
This may be a true ULTRAKILL MUST DIE moment of all time
I love the fact that this theme, unlike Minos', feels genuinely intimidating and powerful in ways that don't seem like a rightful and royal ruler like Minos, but an UNSTOPPABLE FORCE that can't be reckoned with, sounding like you're completely helpless in this scenario. Minos' theme reeks of vengeance and tragedy, Sisyphus? _He hardly could care less if he dies. He just wants to go out swinging and having the fucking TIME OF HIS AFTERLIFE._ And this is reflected perfectly within the tones of this soundtrack, doesn't feel like a boss theme, it feels like a HORROR MOVIE.
He even gets noticeably happy when V1 actually challenges him, saying _"YES! THAT'S IT!"_
And, at the end? *He doesn't regret a SECOND of it.*
I knew damn well this was going to be a massive step up from P-1 but I didn't know it was going to be that big.

To those wondering where the "Sands of Tide" leitmotif everyone was waiting for is, it starts at 2:52
I beat Sisyphus today so I'll treat myself and you to wild speculation for P-3 and some fun facts:
So far our 2 Prime Souls have been kings from Greek mythos. The three most popular kings from Greek mythos are Minos, Sisyphus, and Midas. Minos is famous for being the king that sent people to die in the labyrinth at the hands of the Minotaur (which literally means "Bull of Minos"). Sisyphus is probably the most well-known since everyone knows about the boulder punishment, but some might not be aware that he was a king that actually managed to escape hell, which pissed off Hades and led to the famous boulder torture. Midas is the myth responsible for the phrase "golden touch" for the king turned all he touched into gold.
Here's where things get interesting.
I doubted for some time we'd get Midas and thought maybe it'll be Theseus or Diomedes. I largely wrote Midas off since he isn't alluded to within the Greed layer, with that instead being more affiliated with Sisyphus. But then I remembered that layer 8 of hell is Fraud, which fits Midas even better than Greed. I'd also forgotten that Midas actually grew to resent his power in the myth. He died praying in vain for the gods to lift his curse.
So for Ultrakill.
The Prime Souls follow another pattern: One layer in an Act alludes to a King and the final layer is where their soul is actually held. So Lust alludes to Minos as he's the setpiece and boss of the layer, but his soul is bound within Gluttony. Sisyphus is alluded to within Greed, as it's implied he pushed the boulder up the pyramid and it's where you fight an Insurrectionist. We take a break in Wrath to focus on the Ferryman. Finally, Heresy contains Sisyphus.
Speculation time:
The next layer is Violence. Visually it could be a forest since this layer's punishment was to turn into trees (I'm paraphrasing). I'm reminded that the final screen for ACT II that teases GODFIST SUICIDE is of Gabe squatting in front of a fire in the middle of the woods. We may find him as soon as this layer and he might not make it past this considering his time is up. I wouldn't be surprised if he's dead by the time we make it to him. If he's alive he might not even fight us.
Next up is Fraud. No clue how the devs will visually represent this. It could be a bank, cubicles, or possibly a robot theme since the game is poking at robots being frauds of humans in a sense. Either way, I believe we'll get a nod to Midas here in some way and *drumroll* we're getting the last arm here. I believe we will find the Midas Touch. I was wracking my brain for an FPS mechanic we haven't gotten yet and the only thing I can think of is *freezing*. But normal freezing in Ultrakill would be dull, so I think they're going to treat us to gilding our enemies in gold as a freeze mechanic. Imagine hurling frozen golden enemies around with the grappling hook or punching them into other enemies.
Bonus points for my guess if Midas Touch is V1 poking enemies.
Final layer is Treachery. I'll be honest, this one stumped me until 5-S name-dropped Lucifer for the first time, pretty much confirming he's in the game to some degree. The same lore tablet also made it clear that it's from the perspective of a remorseful, possibly depressed God. In Dante's Inferno, Treachery is Lucifer's home. So the final boss(?) might just straight-up be Lucifer. Considering the name of the Act, he might want you to kill him but he'll want to go out swinging. That or the title is referring to God himself. Or maybe V1. Or Gabe. I'll be real, idk.
Wait wouldn't it be funny if Lucifer was piloting V1 the whole time, carving his way through hell, just to off himself?
P-3: I'm pretty sold on this being Midas Prime. We'll find the door somewhere in Treachery.
The level will literally be unplayable.
Alternative take: If the last arm is NOT Midas Touch my money is on Gabe dying in Violence and we take his arm/sword. We already got Nero's grappling hook with the Green arm, the only thing missing is Dante's Sword and Vergil's summon swords, one or both of which could be covered by snagging something from Gabe. This could be just as cool if not better since we've been seeing his kit for two boss fights now. The only other recurring boss was V2 and both times we stole something from it. The ACT III title could be referring to this very arm, it might just be called the Godfist.
there probably wont be a last arm, as v2 died in greed.
@@CxsmicKiller robots arent the only thing you can steal arms from though
P-3 could be Lucifer himself though. And as for the gold arm, if there are machines residing in Violence because of the lake of blood (I am assuming there is one there), then we could snag the arm from either the boss or do what we did with the Rocket Launcher and take it off of a destroyed machine.
@@CxsmicKiller there’s literally a yellow arm that says ‘UNDER CONSTRUCTION’ in the weapon select menu
