xDuoo X3 II Super Review - Good Enough

- You can get a great DAP with a bit more than $200. But less than that? It gets tricky, and a lot of budget audio players have some deal-breaking shortcomings. Let's unbox the ~$100 xDuoo X3 II and see how it does in this review.

Mine arrived yesterday and it's my first DAP I've ever purchased. I'm glad I bought this.
What did you want out of a DAP?
@@SuperReview Strictly being just a music player, able to power harder to drive headphones and a neutral sound signature.
Been over a week since I've began using it. Listened to music on it with my AKG K701, Toneking Tomahawk and my TY Hi-Z 32, and it's great.
i just bought earphone CCA C12..budget only. Previously i dont know got brands like this. I thought only philips, sony, sennheiser etc exist. Now i'm using C12 with smartphone (equaliser tuned) and i'm quite satisifed already. Do u think i still need to buy DAP or amp ?it's quite pricey, not sure if worth to buy, or better buy better earphone in future.
I have an original Xduoo X3 (Mk1) and it has none of the amp hiss you described, although my first generation X3 has developed a slight problem with one of the headphone contacts becoming slightly misaligned and prone to cutting out if the headphone jack is pressed against, which can be a bit of a pain if I have it in my pocket. I use Rockbox on it, which sounds better than the original Mk1 firmware, and it looks like there is a version for the Mk2 too. Rockbox is capable of delivering sound quality comparable to that of a high quality Technics or Sony CD player from the late 1980s or early 1990s.
I think I should also note that the X3 Mk1 officially supports 2x MicroSD cards of up to 128GB each, but I recently installed a 256GB card and have had no issues. I think the Mk2 officially supports 1x MicroSD card of up to 256GB but I suspect it would probably support a 512GB card - as far as I know there is nothing in the hardware that would prevent this. Large cards have to be formatted from exFAT to FAT32 in order to be recognised by Rockbox because Rockbox is (I believe) 32 bit, even though both X3 models are 64 bit.
The hiss will depend on what you connect to it. Most headphones won't pick it up, IEMs often will.
Thanks for good review. Preserving memory of track time/position before switching-off is big issue.
Agreed! One of those things you don't think about 'til it's gone.
You can select that option in the settings
I notice that a lot of players don't have an L/R audio balance control in the settings. It always annoys me immensely.
I havent seen a better DAP for $120 ,I have one and can takle ity with me when I go places Thanks for the Great Review my Sony Nw-a55 is my go to player since I listen many hours nice to see budget things reviews
Yeah, honestly this is pretty solid for the money, just not great with sensitive IEMs. But not terrible, some are worse.
After watch ur video I bought fiio m6 best output bro. Keep do ur reviews about ur dap review I always support for u bro.
I dont seem to have a hiss on my one . I was wondering if yours had been dropped because of the line on the screen .Ask them to send a new replacement please and then review again please Thanks
Hiss will depend on how sensitive your headphone is. The line across the screen was from an expanding battery, I later discovered.
DUDE YES! I see Blind Guardian in that list of artists. Subbed \m/
Seriously, been watching all your reviews so I know what DAP to get for Christmas :)
What are you getting? I am thinking of getting one too.
One of the saddest moments was me realizing Blind Guardian's entire catalog is recorded so badly 😭 I want that music in Queen-like production.
@@hmm2928 I think im going to go with the Walkman A40. It's not tooooo expensive, seems to have decent UI, and has at least some features to enhance the listening experience. Was going to go with the Fiio M3k for half the price but the UI looks like it would drive me insane.
@@SuperReview A lot of it definitely has a harshness or brittle sound to it; especially Nightfall and Imaginations. But I kinda like that in a way. Have you given any of the latest remasters a chance? (They've done at least a couple in the last handful of years actually, lol).
While I have your attention: Can you point me towards a good pair of wired casual listening buds (or headphones...I could be convinced) for listening to this type of music or heavy metal in general? Not looking for something crazy expensive, but I want quality. I'm going through your channel but it's a lot to watch haha.
"Crazy expensive" is pretty relative -- what do you want to spend? My favorites right now are Magaosi K5.
I have the original X3 and it is very basic for the interface and an LED display, very basic. Has the two 3.5mm jacks like this one but has two micro SD slots that support 200gb cards. Bought it when my Cowon X7 crapped out. Its fine but died on me 9 months in and no Customer Support when I tried to get it fixed. Just putting that out there for anyone who buys from xDuoo. I did get it to work again, but had a Cayin N3 on the way and it is a better player over all.
Thank u for the info. I think i'll skip this one.
Could you review the moondrop kxxs iems? They are by no means a budget earphone but I've been told they are very nice, would love to hear your thoughts on them *and see how they fit
Great review man! Good assortment of buttons, but the rest of it seems to be expected of budget daps. I have been on my Hidizs ap80 and using it has been good, especially with my small hands 🙏
I still wanna try the AP80. Is it Android?
@@SuperReview it is on Hiby OS. I'm not sure though if it's android based
@@aleclim7676 --- If it uses the Hiby OS, does that mean it has the MSEB features like my Hiby R3 Pro Saber? Or did Hidizs disable it????
From all your great mp3 reviews can you tell me the what the loudest vol. output you have noticed? looking to crank!! thx
Please be careful with your hearing.
Don't know why but I just can't get enthusiastic about daps. Would love to see someone actually make a killer audio phone.
Mmmm but buttons!
Smartphone, MicroSD card, USB player Pro, USB DAC (Mojo, Dragonfly Cobalt,...) and IEM’s....
@@patrickmeylemans9627 Nice. That's the way.
LG's phones with the Quad DAC are pretty great tbh
Dongle a Radsone ES100 on the end of your smart phone and you're pretty much sorted. Great sound, hours of play from something the size of a small matchbox.
Hello... Awesome review as always... Can u do a review on Sound magic e11c ?? Eagerly waiting for that one
So with the dedicated line-out you don’t have to fuss with the volume when using it as a source? That would be nice.
I like it’s chunky industrial looks, like the USB C, not so keen on the battery life and home screen design 🤢
Been using a Sony A105 recently and... I miss the battery life of the xDuoo 😭
Hi do u have any advice wich headphones i should get ?
I woule like in ears with a good Bass (since i like to listen to HipHop a lot) and good Sound quality in generel.
They should be around 100 bucks (max 150) and quite durable since the headphones I had before died twice (they were the AKG headphones by Samsung that came with the Gakaxy S8 and S9)
My fave at $100 is Rose Mini2 MkII. Not super bassy but pretty good bass for my tastes, and super clear.
Hello.Im experienced a very strange behavior when im trying to adjust the Equaliser.Whatever slider i move up or down it dosn't affect the that frequency but it reduces the volume!!Anyone with the same problem?
It might actually be working. I don't remember using the EQ on this, but it's not uncommon that enabling EQ lowers overall volume.
thanks for the review! would u say this is the best option for this price range? and if so or otherwise, what deliberations are you considering?
For headphones, best I've tried, for IEMs, Fiio M3 Pro a bit better.
I had it but i lost it, now it is not possible to buy it nomore, any idea where to buy it??
No, probably don't make it anymore.
Hi mate. So do you prefer this or the Sony A45 for sound quality? Much difference? Cheers for the reviews BTW - I enjoy your presentation style!
Biggest differences: Sony will hiss less with IEMs, and the xDuoo will get louder with hard-to-drive headphones. Apart from that, which is pretty obvious, I do perceive the xDuoo has a bit sharper, more defined highs, but it's splitting hairs and could be in my head.
@@SuperReview Cheers again for the help! During lockdown, too... guess this makes you a (lowkey) key worker
The Fiio M3k just went down to $60 on amazon.
That's... not bad.
@@SuperReview Yea it's been in my wish list since your vid, think I'll pull the trigger. Just have to find all my music on bandcamp now for the Flac. Where do you get your Flac tracks?
I get FLAC either from Bandcamp or I rip it from CDs. (I've been buying a lot of used CDs.)
Now it's 50
@@rossaiello9935 I wonder if it is about to discontinue
Please review Xduoo X20. Is it worth to buy in 2020?
Hi ! I have a x10t II connected to my mojo. Perfect for me 😀
I can't find these for sale anymore, anyone know of a good alternative, everything these days is touch screen and costs an arm and a leg.
Maybe Hiby R2. I haven't used it personally.
How good is it compared to Sony Walkman NW A-55?
Hisses more and interface isn't as good, but this has a lot more power for full-size headphones.
Hey man, I was planning on buying a player. I can’t choose between Fiio M3K and this one. Also, you’ll do a lot of reviews like this one, so which one of these should I buy for long term use.
Personally I prefer this xDuoo over the M3K. The Fiio has a cleaner 3.5mm signal, zero hiss, but the touch UI is a bit fiddly. It's not bad, I could see someone preferring the M3K. But I'll take the xDuoo buttons.
Hi. Great review. One question......This doesn't have any internal memory, does it? i.e. you need to use an SD card? Is there any way to get an image of what the player looks like with the card inserted? Is it completely flush? If so, how easy is it to insert and eject the card? Thanks.
Correct, there is no built-in memory with this player. The memory card fits flush / slightly recessed. I have short nails and it's easy to get out. Here's a photo: imgur.com/YxTlAyu
@@SuperReview Thanks. Very helpful. Much appreciated. Helped me to decide that I will get this one.
Can you do a video about lg's quad DAC phones??
If they ever make a small phone, I'd probably bite.
LG make the most unreliable phones ever! My LG v20 died after a year (boot loop) and my LG v30+ headphone jack died after 4 months of light use!! Heck I have an old quad core Chinese phones that still works flawlessly (oppo find 7). I also have Mi6 and it works without any issues!
Now I am looking for an affordable DAP to replace my shitty v30+
:(
@@NANA-gy7yx i didn't know that and yet i was planning to buy v40
@@ummarulhaq Trust me! Don't buy it! Get a proper DAC and quality phone instead!
The screen already replaced? 🤔
No, never replaced it.
Can you make a review on Kinera Seed iem ? it is an opposite to the sif version you have done before which was bassy sound. This one might be more suitable for your music taste
Nice video. How would you rate this compared to the Fiio M6? Which would you prefer?
I prefer the xDuoo. The Fiio has a lot more features and ability to stream, but I don't use those. For me, buttons and simple UI are more important.
Thank You. I actually like streaming with Pandora and, Sirius XM. However, if I can do without them I'll consider the xDuoo.
i just bought this, I don't care about anything only SQ, i got it for $105 do you think it's a good buy? it'll be my very first DAP
Good buy at $105, definitely. I really do love the sound out of it.
Is it possible to use it only using folder browsing and disable the classification based on the tags in the files? Does it support multiple levels of folders? (Both essential features for me and with large collections of music and both present in RockBox). Thanks in advance.
It does have folder browsing, not home right now so I can’t check how many levels it goes. At least two (Artist > Album for my folders).
Hi, I really like your reviews, thanks.
for HD 600, should I go for these or FiiO m3k or anything else? My Budget is pretty tight. Thanks in advance.
I prefer the xDuoo to the M3K personally, better interface and power output.
Super* Review Thank you very much for responding 😊👍🏼
is it still worth it this year?, or do you have other alternatives for a budget under 120$?,my iem is ns3 audio
For IEMs, I'd go with Fiio M3 Pro.
Hello! Would you have time to review these too?
Plantronics Backbeat fit 3150
Plantronics Backbeat fit 3200
Plantronics Backbeat pro 5100
Please can you do a Review about hidizs ap80 DAP thank you.
I have hidiz ap80 using it with my tin hifi p1 sometime connected it in my phone to bluetooth
Review a Tempotec V1-A DAP
Hi, i may ask what your current favorite iem in the 200-300 range is ? (like a top 3 would be super cool, with all this iem's like the t4 and so on i lost the overview)
My favorites right now are Magaosi K5 and Tin Hifi P1.
@@SuperReview thanks a lot ! wich one of this should i look into if i want a bit more punch/bass ?
@@SuperReview i know in the full size headphones planer's have most of the time very nice bass, will watch both of your reviews now ! great channel btw, greetings from germany !
This against Fiio m3k purely from sound quality, my sound preferences are musical type that has alot of instruments but with a bit leaning on the trebleish side but still has good bass and i hope but i dont require i wish for also a good sound stage
I can get this for 75$ and the xduoo for 95$ I will appreciate if you can still recommend something better but not much higher than "97" dollars but if you do recommend something near 97 i will consider it.
Like I always say, I have a hard time hearing any difference between most audio players. The Fiio has less hiss with sensitive IEMs, and the xDuoo has more power for lower-efficiency headphones.
r u planning to review non chifi iem? im interested for ath-e70 and ls400is . cost about $200-400. can u compare that non chifi iem around $400 vs chifi iem flagship (tin p1,t4,moondrop kanas/kxxs etc)? thx
im kinda obsessed with ath brand lol..
sorry my bad english ;)
Those models are older so I probably won't review them. But I'm definitely down for non-chi-fi, the chi-fi market just has so much new stuff.
Best heapones fór him?
What do you think about the new Walkman, Sony NW-A105?
I'm in the middle of reviewing it. I like it quite a bit, but battery life is eh.
Believe you should make your top list of earphones...
Mebbe...
Does the hiss appear in the line out signal as well? Thanks for the review!
Good question -- I don't have it charged right now, but I believe the line-out does NOT hiss.
@@SuperReview Thanks again! I went ahead bought one that was on sale. Hopefully I like it more than my Zishan Z3, which sounds good but is frustrating to operate.
Yeah, I think this is a good upgrade from Zishan. This sounds more like my Zishan than my other players, which I like a lot. The hiss is a bit annoying, but with headphones it's not audible.
Do a review of TFZ BALANCE 1....please
could you review their lower price option? XDuoo NANO D3, its at a similar price to the fiio m3k
It's got different audio hardware so I wouldn't assume it sounds the same. It looks interesting, but I won't have time to review it, sorry.
