Israel-Hamas war protesters defy Columbia University's deadline to disband camp or face suspension

- Colleges around the U.S. implored pro-Palestinian student protesters to clear out tent encampments with rising levels of urgency Monday, including an ultimatum from Columbia University for students to sign a form and leave the encampment by the afternoon or face suspension.
Columbia activists defied the 2 p.m. deadline with chants, clapping and drumming from the encampment of more than 300 people. No officials appeared to enter the encampment, with at least 120 tents staying up as the deadline passed.
The notice sent Monday by the Ivy League university in Manhattan to protesters in the encampment said that if they left by the deadline and signed a form committing to abide by university policies through June 2025 or an earlier graduation, they could finish the semester in good standing. If not, the letter said, they will be suspended, pending further investigation.
Early protests at Columbia, where demonstrators set up tents in the center of the campus, sparked pro-Palestinian demonstrations across the country. Students and others have been sparring over the Israel-Hamas war and its mounting death toll. Many students are demanding their universities cut financial ties with Israel. The number of arrests at campuses nationwide is approaching 1,000.

This is a lie taught to the West. A 5 minute research can tell you that Gaza's sea port is controlled by 1srael. It's airport has been destroyed and it's not “allowed" to build another. One land border is controlled directly by Israel and the other is controlled indirectly by threatening and bribing Egyptian politicians. Gaza is basically a concentration camp.

Yeah, well incase you have never been to a university, they aren't JUST for studying. Universities are places where people can platform their political opinions or ideologies. It's literally the town square of the marketplace of ideas.

Universities and colleges don't offer programs that matter MOST... our healthcare is $h1t because schools don't see the money in healthcare programs.. so there's no point investing in it. Instead, senseless programs and majors are offered for students who LOVE to blab their mouths about human equality (as if they are already experts in these fields) & political ideas they know very little about while causing disruptions for other students who are sincere about their own studies. Unless they major in political science, I say quit pretending like experts and rally elsewhere...preferably in Palestine if they care THAT much.

1. Protests like these, have been happening on college campuses since the 60s. In fact, the students who started the protests this year at Columbia are the grandchildren of the original Columbia protesters in 1968.
2. Colleges offer a whole range of majors. The students who decide to study "senseless majors" as you say, are the ones who chose to.
3. Our healthcare system is garbage because schools don't see the money in healthcare programs? Our healthcare programs are garbage because of massive corruption in government, and gigantic lobbyists for big pharma. I've never read a comment where every single point was inaccurate. I should be charging you for educating you right now. And to your last point, that they should go to Palestne if they care so much. @@markarmage3776 It does seem as if our own government has it's own little insurrection going on - against their own tax-paying citizens. There is a much bigger agenda here and these people are not here to study, they're here as plants to divide and conquer. People just have to pay attention to their words. What they are saying in these protests is hate speech. Why aren't they being arrested. A group like the young Republicans would have been rounded up and the first time they uttered a word against anyone.

His successor Ehud Olmert attempted to achive peace with the Palestinan authority. Although he made a very favourable offer towards the Palestinans his offer was declined. It's not the first time Palestinans walked away from peace.
Arafat never intended to respect the Oslo agreement he signed with Rabin, he also went on TV stating Oslo was just phase one... Ehud Barak also attempted to achive peace with Arafat and Arafat said no to all peace offers.
So maybe instead of constantly pressuring Israel you should start to put pressure on the Palestinans to actually attempt to achieve peace?!

United for what? Most of the students don't know what they are protesting. If you ask them some simple questions you'll find that they know next to nothing about the conflict, have never read any Islamic sources, and cannot find Gaza or Israel on the map.
Why didn't they protest this before Hamas murdered so many Jews on Oct 7th (there was a ceasefire which Hamas broke)? Shown videos of what Hamas did on Oct 7 (which Hamas themselves taped), they deny them as fake! Why don't they protest actual genocides around the world? If you don't understand your cause, you're not united. These students are on the wrong side of history. Palestinians were given MANY chances for a State, but they refused every single one.
