Great video & thanks for sharing this restoration!!!!!!! I just don't understand why some people have such a problem with cleaning these old banjos. If it's done gently & methodically without harsh cleaners, it doesn't hurt anything. Crud doesn't add anything to the sound or value. Instruments are like cars, in a musical sense. Take care of them & they'll take care of you.
I put together a parts banjo for my road gigs in 2021 & cleaned everything as I put it together. I played that banjo from about June to September & then, took it apart for an upgrade to the rim & tonering. I was amazed at how much gunk had accumulated under the tension hoop, on the outside of the tonering & on some of the brackets.
Those doll eyes are a bit creepy, but they add some interesting character to the banjo. You're probably already aware of this, but those screw holes on the back of the peghead, are from the original, tulip button "box tuners" that came on most of the bowties from that era. They looked good, but didn't hold up well. Most of them worked awful, had a ton of play in the gears & you couldn't keep them in tune. I don't blame anyone for changing them.
The extremely out of tune banjo playing while shwoing closeups of the neck corrosion was priceless!! Lol. Very thorough, relaxing yet informative video. Glad to have you back on YT after your personal matters... Come back now, ya hear?? :)
