Thank you Father. Pride sneaks up so easily without me knowing it. I realize that obligation made me blind and in fact distanced me from Christ. It really feels like God is telling me to relax and if l fall to Just get back up again; l haven't left, still here beside you. I really needed to hear this.
Thank you. It’s been hard to rewire my brain from a Protestant staunchly promulgated anti-action mindset to Orthodoxy. One thing that attracted me to Orthodoxy was I didn’t notice that hyper fixation on anti-action. There were “things to do” in Orthodoxy. But like you said, it seems to be more of “there are tools, and medicines that can be applied” opposed to: “If you do xyz, than it will guarantee that you will be saved in the end, so do that and you can go home.”
@@user-xz3tz3qd7b Anti-action means anti-works. Usually in the Calvinistic Protestant world the strong emphasis on “salvation is not earned or worked for” ends up translating as “don’t do things” because you don’t want to look proud or appearing as you are trying to buy your way into heaven. Good vs a bad type of “working” or “action” is almost never talked about so it ends up all blurring together, and the assumption becomes any action is useless or bad.
@@LadderOfDescent I'm a Calvinist and I must say I don't think you have understood the Reformed approach to works. Read the Puritans and you cannot come away with the idea that works aren't important. Neither have I encountered this supposed idea among my fellow Presbyterians.
@@DW-oj6yu Find me a prideful Calvinist and you haven't found a Calvinist who understands the price of his own salvation or his own unworthiness. I really wish people would try to understand others better rather than reinforcing lies and stereotypes. How refreshing that would be.
honestly, this is something I struggled with first. But over time I realized how dumb it was. Just follow your prayer rule, do the obedience's you can etc. However constantly strive unceasingly pray. The spiritual life is not something to have a check off list, but its something more like guidelines. These "guidelines" help us grow spiritually.
Holy father Arsenie Papacioc îs my spiritual grandfather, because my spiritual father was his disciple. Nu l-am cunoscut niciodată și tare mult mi-aș fi dorit! Iertare!
This is valuable advice. It really helps me keep the right mindset. The comparison to how we eat breakfast even if we were late was great. “The whole day is not lost.” “ I need to use these things as medicines.”
This is definitely an area of growth for me as I continue my journey into the church, so I appreciate the words on this topic. Tangential question, where can the book referenced in the video be boughten?
Beautifully stated Father. I love this mentality and I am going to continue to use this thinking moving forward. I have definitely questioned and done exactly what you stated about checking off the boxes and my pride getting in the way. Thank you again Father for your wise words. I love your channel.
Ummm.. the titles of this seem too well times I JUST had my first meeting with the Priest at the Orthodox Church I've been attending with needing all my boxes checks sin order to commit and be baptized as my theme of conversation. I don't know that this will b the same theme by the sounds of the first minute... But that's weird. I was announced with Holy Myhr from the Iveron icon and I've been googling because it smells like rose oil not Myhr. I'm happy you have a channel. Your series with Matt...I forgot his name the guy who tours Churches you helped me to find Orthodoxy..maybe it's Matt Whitman?

There is also a fatalism view that can stem from some Calvinist views. Which reinforces the anti action, prideful way.@@LadderOfDescent
