  • We’re helping Crank it Crew Lou once more with moving her boat - and this time it’s getting serious! Find out how we coped with navigating past sandbanks and keeping the boat in the right part of the water. Also hear about a stolen boat and where I am on my own narrowboat, the Naughty Lass.

    Should have gone on to GAINSBOROUGH and go around the market town . Then you wouldhave gone under the steel railway bridge that goes over the TRENT ,the one I used to climb inside in order to go from one side of the river to the other.

    I loved this segment. Full of green and sunshine dancing on the water. The accompanying laid-back bass riffs with understated percussion, totally mesmerising. My blood pressure dropped 15 points. I swear if I were to live in England then it’d be aboard a narrowboat (lets call it Otter).

    Been to west stock with lock when I was a youngster , it has bad memories for my dad , just before we were about to go into the lock we hit something hard in the water, & had a real struggle trying to get in as it felt like we'd lost some power , & we ended up slamming into the side of the lock on the outside of it because of the current , & when dad wound the prop which he COULD do with that boat , he found that he'd lost one of the blades off the prop , ouch , & had to go on the bus back to Lincoln to get another prop . My late mums wedding ring is somewhere in the bottom of Bradford pool , dad lost it cleaning the boat, as he had it on a chain round his neck , & it fell off .

    Great video Robbie. It's about time you uploaded... lol... I've missed ya mate! Glad to see Lou is getting better @ boating. You must be doing something right... lol... Your a good friend to her.
    That was a big piece of fish you'll was eating, but looked yummy. I cooked some good walleye the other week. Used a new method, breading, on it, my husband usually fries it, & it really turned out good. Thanks to Gordon Ramsay for showing me how to dry your fish off before you dunk it in flour, egg, & I used panko bread crumbs. Then fry away. Was a lighter batter then I was use to but was damn good. I think for now on that's what I'm going to use. But not on my fried chicken. That's my recipe & it will never change. I believe if it's good & everyone loves it, it's not going to change & I hope my kids keep it going.
    So glad your doing good. I'm having some medical issues, hope they get to the bottom of my problems.
    It's a great day when YOUR CRANKING ON!!!

    Good to hear from you Robbie, really enjoyable video. Trip down the Trent is a bit scary the first time, but nice once you've done it. Just need to be prepared, just in case. Saxiliby is nice for the pubs, the old ironmongers and fish n chip shop. Only downside is it's between a road and railway, so early wake up. Didn't realise you were there when the boat got stolen. Heard all about it and saw it afterwards at Stamp End. However, it seems everyone rallied round and the young lad is now back on his feet.
    Pleased you've got the inverter problem sorted. Batteries should be ok as they weren't dry, just low.

    Hi Robbie, just going over your videos again. I'll be buying my boat next year sometime. What i was wondering is Boat theft a big thing on the Canals? It kind of seems pointless to me, the boats travel Max 5mph really (Not exactly adrenaline pumping) and there's no where to go. Unless you have a crane it seems almost Guaranteed that you would get caught, a bobby on a bike is way fast enough to catch the not so speedy thief. I could see why someone would break in to the Boat but to steal it you would have to be one of these people that stare at Orange juice cartons because it says Concentrate on the Label...

    • @RobbieCumming

  • @barryroach1980

    Hi I'm new to your channel but already impressed so thanks for the view. A question, I know zero about boating but you mentioned the issues of avoiding obstacles in these stretches of water (I guess this isn't the only stretch) Can't you get a Garmin with the canals on and just set waypoints to follow? you'd only have to do it once and they are saved to memory.Doesn't have to be Garmin of course can be any map software.

    • @RobbieCumming
      @RobbieCumming  5 лет назад

      Hi Barry welcome! I use printed/digital charts that show me where the sand bars and other underwater obstacles are so not sure a garmin would help me, especially on such an old boat with knackered batteries (the fewer gadgets the better!!) but perhaps the large yachts have them or depth sensors. It’s all about what’s underneath the surface - and how much you draw in that I mean how much of your boat is under the water level. Hope that helped and thanks so much for watching.

    • @barryroach1980
      @barryroach1980 5 лет назад

      Thanks Robbie, yes understood. I must say compared to the other canal boat channels yours puts a little "extreme" in the mix which for the viewer can only be good. Btw when you waved to those two thieving dicks who stole the boat does that constitute aiding and abetting are you sure you didn't know them? :-))))

    • @RobbieCumming
      @RobbieCumming  5 лет назад +1

      Many boat owners just remove the tiller (the top half) and lock it away.

    • @andrewriley1664
      @andrewriley1664 6 лет назад +1

      Simon Jones thats fine but it doesn't stop a thief steering it away, if the tiller itself was locked, preferably with the rudder turned towards the bank, it would be impossible to navigate the boat

      From the local post office - I just ask the sender to put ‘Post Restante’ at the top, an antiquated but still correct way of saying ‘hold on to this until I come in to pick it up’. Some POs are funny about it so you might need to ask if it’s a big parcel etc. And you also need photo ID to collect.

      Thanks for your reply! (I wan't expecting that...). Glad to know you're safe and sound! I don't personally suffer from hayfever, but do tend to live each day by taking Claritin, as I have a cat, and am slightly allergic to them! Taking 1 Claritin daily seems to keep everything under control - including heavy pollen season! Hope you feel better soon! Also wasn't meaning to nag about the videos...just curious as to why we hadn't seen any lately. But you ARE allowed to have a life, after all! Looking forward to your next installment, and thanks again for your reply! As always, wishing you the best, mat! ;)
