In other words don't blow 3 grand on a Fender Custom Shop and then spend your hundred and fifty change on an amp. Of course this is just a generalisation. Of course there are countless combinations of gear of varying price, quality and availability that its impossible to pigeonhole. I repeat this is just a "general rule" and subject to many variables. But... I have to agree with the tech. In my experience of working over 3 decades in the music industry his rule works most of the time. If you have a budget guitar, ok maybe set it up as good as can be first, and then play it though a half decent (or very decent if you can) amp then in the hands of an accomplished player they will get a good sound. Give the same player a crap amp and a vintage guitar worth more than a family saloon and A/B the results usually (not always) are worse for the listener's enjoyment. there's nothing that makes me smile more than dave with a cheap guitar than sounds like angels singing. put the finest custom shop in my hands and it sounds like im cranking on a jack in the box,lol
My wife literally just walked Inthe house two hours ago with one of these guitars that she got for daft money off of one of her clients (she's a health worker ) and I'm having the same reaction, plays sooo good, can't believe it's a beginners guitar.
Loved watching your videos for the past few years, but I reckon my favourites are when you’re ‘just’ noodling away on a new guitar. All the different styles and techniques that come so naturally to you just blow us mere mortal guitarists away. A real joy to watch this video Dave - awesome!
Bought this to try out after your enthusiasm in fsr seafoam green. I think I lucked out, after new strings and a bit of lemon oil, pickup height it plays and sounds great compared my other strats which are 10 times as much. The neck feels a dream with satin almost unfinish wood feel, no fretting problems anywhere on neck or rattling or buzzing. It really is making me readdress cost to value on my guitar hunts! Well done squier Indonesia!
I've been playing for 60 years and have learned that, except for some really fine exceptions, that in today's market you can find real gems in the "bargain brands". Picked up a Squire Classic Vibe Jazzmaster and am still blown away by the quality and playability/tone of that instrument. Never been a big Strat fan, but that is a real beauty. I think the advent of CNC production in the Far East manufacturers has changed the ball game forever. $200 guitars are now of the quality of a $500-$600 guitar 5 - 10 years ago. No need to have that $2,000 to $4,000 Gibson or Fender now.
I love seeing you plat this instrument Dave! Your never ceases to amaze me! I can't wait to see this is a mint green 3-ply scratch plate. That's the first thing I would do too if I had a fiesta red strat like this. :D
I liked my first one so much, I went and bought another. Spread the word Dave !! These Bullets just seem to come alive when you’re playing them. Hard to explain, but my US strats have just been collecting dust lately. Nice playing !!!!
I've been saying for a few years now that beginner guitarists have never had it so good. Both major cheap guitar builders, Squire and Epi, are making cheap guitars that are stage worthy. It used to be that this price range would get you bloody fingers and pretty fire wood
Yes the technology has gotten amazing and everyone can get a playable guitar these days. I tell people all the time, if you want to spend a couple of grand on a guitar then please do. That’s capitalism. But for those of us who can’t pay that kind of money, there are so many affordable options that play so well. Besides this Bullet Strat I have a few Harley Benton guitars (Tele, Single Cut, Double Cut Junior and Explorer) that all play so well. The SC550 in particular is amazing. I got it as a b stock for $187. The finish imperfections are barely noticeable. You have to really look hard. And the guitar plays and sounds amazing. I had to sell my Gibson Classic 4 years ago and was still heartbroken over doing that. The SC550 has taken a lot of that heartache away. It’s a great Les Paul Style guitar.
I have one in sunburst (2010) and it's one of the nicest playing guitars I've had, I actually sold it, but then I had to get it back :), seen pro's who like them too (Mike Rutherford, Jack Pearson)
While not as low as the Bullet price point, I recently made the pleasant discovery that while not as pretty as a MusicMan Valentine, a Sterling by MM Valentine feels, plays, and sounds very close to the US made models, and I own both. Bought a USA MM Valentine and then Sterling put out a chambered model that’s a bit lighter for me and some and I thought I’d give it a try. Very glad I did. Forget all the hype. They say a great guitar is one that inspires you to play. In the case of my Sterling Valentine, and definitely this Squier Bullet, considered that box checked. Woof!
Btw, I was in a guitar store a few weeks ago Dave ( I have a ´96 Squier std strat and a Classic vibe tele) The guy was saying that Squiers are crap guitars, I told him I love mine but he said USA strats are way better.....Then I showed him Your Bullit video... I am 43 and have never seen a guy wanting to erase the last 5 minutes of his life so badly....I have a few Epiphones aswell and in particular a 2003 Zakk Wylde Bullseye aged one. I gave it away to a guy to have an actual Zakk Wylde active set installed. in total with the pickups it cost like 1050 euro's. I have had professional players ask to buy that guitar after I let them play it for a lot more (like 300 extra) I will never sell it. So happy you are not a guitar snob and just appreciate a good guitar. All the best mate (from the Netherlands)
Looking at starting guitar, acoustic didn’t hit for me and when I thought about it… my love has always been electric. After watching your video this is the guitar I’m getting. Amazing performance, thank you!
That's pretty much my reaction every time I play mine. It's just insane how good these new Bullets are. I have upgraded to Fender locking tuners, a Tusq nut and converted it to SSH with a Duncan Distortion but still, it's an amazing base to start with and it freakin' shreds!
Thanks, Dave, awesome playing. I own a couple of Squier Classic Vibe guitars, the 60's strat, and thinline tele. Love your videos and a big hello from Texas. Now subscribed.
This makes me very happy. Just put a deposit on a Fiesta red Squier Affinity Strat for my son - he's 8 😊 Haven't seen him for a few months but first thing he said to me at the weekend was 'daddy I want a rock guitar like yours!' He went straight to the Squier when I took him into the music shop! He's got 5 years on me, I started playing when I was 13, 50 odd years ago! Pleasure watching you play mate 👍😊
@@thedavesimpson don't suppose you can remember roughly the amp settings in this? Crunch or lead channel? Any boost or inbuilt effects? I've got a Katana 100 and last week finally after 40 years got a Strat, a 2004 US sunburst. Would love to get somewhere near your tone!
Dave! Your channel has become a must watch for me over time. That Squier sold me too! I literally just bought my first Candy Apple Red G & L Legacy 2 days ago, and now I feel like I need to buy a red Bullet, which I never thought I would say. I have tons of Fenders, and I love them all. Squier's too, Love every one. But watching you play that thing and your genuine reaction has me thinking I may have overlooked something special at that damn price!! Keep the videos coming brother. Very inspiring!!! Peace!!!
@Brandon Ivey They're still really well made relative to what used to be had for not even that price point but something higher. They're just not the best in terms of what you can get today, which is even more ridiculous.
@Brandon Ivey I agree the yam is a better guitar but the finger board is to narrow for a lot of is to play so as an alternative the bullet is a good spec.
P*Funk You got that right. I remember years ago when I started the “starter guitars” that used to be 3 times as much as that Squier and were total hopeless crap. Most low end Squiers these days are usually only a good setup away from being perfectly serviceable guitars, and there are low end guitars that are so much better than even that.
What sells it for me its that he was planning to do a comparison video with a fender stratocaster and he totally forgot that it was there as he keeps playing the Squier in disbelieve
I’ve had a Lake Placid Blue Bullet Strat for 5 months now. The only things I’ve changed on it were putting graphite string trees on it and wiring the middle tone control to also work on the bridge pickup to tame some of that treble. I absolutely love the guitar. It’s the best Strat I’ve personally played (had an American Deluxe that I sold to pay for my EX wife’s wedding dress 😕) but I like the playability of the Bullet more. I love the thin neck and I love how light weight it is. Probably about 3 kilograms (6.5 pounds) and it’s so comfortable to play. And it sounds just like a Stratocaster is supposed to sound. Thank you for such a great review, Dave. I’ve bought a few pieces of gear because of your enthusiasm and infectious personality 😊
Squier owes you BIG time lol… you sold a lot of people on these and I just received mine and it’s in a beautiful lake placid blue and I’m beyond impressed with this bullet and even more impressed with your playing. You have a bigger than life personality and so genuine and have an incredibly unique and amazing play style. I’m currently going through rehab and you’re videos and attitude has been a positive distraction and is helping me more than you could imagine… You’re the best Dave!!
watching you playing this cheap guitar (i own this one too) got me goosebump and im in tears. dude, thats beautiful. its your soul singing through this guitar, deeper than the deepest. thank you for the inspiration! ❤❤
I am just laughing ( probably so I don't cry) as I watch Dave just tame everything there is in this squire. Most wouldn't believe a squire could ever have such tone and playability, pretty much right out of the box. Thumbs up to you Dave. You the man guy. Your ability is well... OUTSTANDING to say the least. Thanks once again.
WOW ... i'm impressed! But ... let's not forget you are able to play on everything (with strings) and make it sound good (;-)) ... one of the main fun reasons to monitor your channel for a couple of years by now ... But ... i do agree. Did play a lot of Squiers at my goto shop in Berlin ... never disappointing. Thanks a lot for sharing.
You Sir , Just Blew Me Away !!!!! WOW ! Recently , I ordered one online , I've always been fan of Stratocasters . This year I decided to buy my first " new guitar " , as all of the others had been strat copies and in rough shape . I got to looking on RUclips for anything about them , yes a Squire ! You showed everyone of us , just what they are capable of doing ! Thank you , my friend Now if only , I open mine and could play like you . That would be , out of this world !
I just got an Arctic White HT Bullet last week. No fret sprouts, neck is straight, intonation and action are perfect. Couldn't be happier. Best $199 CAD I've ever spent. Love the video and playing! 🤘
I just took mine home yesterday. I love it! It's got a bridge humbucker, but basically the same guitar. Mine's finished in a brown sunburst. It's awesome!!! An early Christmas gift from my sweet wife!!
I know that feeling bro, I got my sister a red Affinity Squier for Christmas and I absolutely love it. It plays and feels SOO good. Now she's stopped playing and I get to have it..... :D
You nailed it Dave about being on tour! That or even playing gigs in some of the more rowdy venues this is perfect. I never take my Fender Strat to some venues for fear of the dreaded beer soaking, getting knocked over or nicked!
Dave. they sell also a Bullet Mustang. with double Humbakers. maybe you would like it. must have a even more Rock sound. Blue or Black color. a beautiful blue. i need a second Squire. i have a Squire California and it is such a great tone. warm and beautiful for solo Love songs and Country songs. but i want also a harder sound. Rock sound. so i have to check out the Bullet Mustang aswell. maybe i will buy both. They are so affordable for what they deliver.
Dave I bought one of these recently after seeing this video ($149 USD) and what a demo, you killed it on this one man! anyway I took a foam sanding block to the fret edges / fret board and after 1/2 hour of nice easy / consistent sanding I have beautiful feeling frets and rolled edges. The tuners aren't amazing but they get it done. The body is thinner / lighter than my USA strat and I feel the hard tail bridge eliminates the worst component on a typical cheapo guitar... a crappy trem the pickups don't sound like my USA strat either of course, but that's a good thing. they sound great and have their own personality, great sustain and no unexpected noises... I also have a Squier Standard I bought about 12 years ago and this blows it away, maybe it's hit or miss but I sure lucked out!
The famous Jack Pearson went on tour with the Allman Brothers and used a stock Squier Bullet for the entire tour. Here is his account of how he came to use a Squier Bullet. ruclips.net/video/EW_ajThs8Vo/видео.html As with Jack Pearson this Squier Bullet's performance in this video has a lot to do with Dave Simpson's guitar playing ability. Practice, practice, practice. If you desire to sound good playing guitar you will need to practice, a lot. I've been playing guitar since 1974, but I do not refer to myself as a "Guitarist", I instead more accurately refer to myself as a "Practicing Guitarist"! For what these guitars cost I've got one I keep around leaving it in an alternate tuning. They are just nice guitars that work. Great video Dave, Thank You.
I LOVE the dull/boxy percussive sound the Squier bullets have. My tele has it, gives some notes a wooden type of quality when it resonates or you strike it with a clean neck pick up position.
I'll be very interested in the comparison with the Harley Benton, both in terms of playability and sound. Neck thickness at 1st and 12th frets: Squier Bullet Strat' : 20.6 mm 22 mm Harley Benton ST-62DLX: 22.3 mm 24.5 mm 1956 Fender V profile: 22.4 mm 24.9 mm 1960s Fender "Oval C": 20.1 mm 23.6 mm 2010 Squier Classic Vibe 60 Strat': 21.5 mm 23.6 mm 2019 Fender "Modern C": 20.8 mm 22.1 mm
I changed the scratch plate on my Squier for a Mint Green, then had to change the pick up covers and knobs as they looked way to white. Great, awesome playing loved the bottle neck stuff.
Inspired playing, brother Dave! Just ordered on of those Bullet HT in sunburst, can't wait! Mine will have the HB bridge PU. And, yes, the Squiers to come thru gritty and dirty, but as you've shown-they clean up well! Keep on rockin', Dave!
Damn, Dave... I could seriously sit and listen to you play all day. Watching the joy and enthusiasm you play with just awesome. Much love to ya man, holy shit lol... Keep bendin those strings!!!
I don't know why people underestimate this guitar a lot! I have one of those squirt bullete strat HSS model and it's incredible. It's a very economical and affordable guitar. Only lag I found is this guitar comes with 21 fret, not 22. Apart from that it's awesome. It requires playability to make a guitar sound and Mr. Dave proved it. Thanks a lot Mr. Dave.
I had one years ago that my dad bought me from Toys R Us back in 2005 lol First guitar pack and it was amazing , I tested it against my 2007 USA Strat and the Squier to my embarrassment sounded better , I was not pleased so sold that USA Strat at a loss back to the store.

I own the squier bullet Sunburst for year and a half it was gifted do me as a present for christmas and I can say it was so comfy I felt in love with that strat.
there's nothing that makes me smile more than dave with a cheap guitar than sounds like angels singing. put the finest custom shop in my hands and it sounds like im cranking on a jack in the box,lol
I love the fact that such cheap gear can be made to sound so good! Bollocks to the cork-sniffers!
My wife literally just walked Inthe house two hours ago with one of these guitars that she got for daft money off of one of her clients (she's a health worker ) and I'm having the same reaction, plays sooo good, can't believe it's a beginners guitar.
Love your playing and style. In my opinion it's a fusion of Hendrix, Green and Gilmour. Good work sir, good work!
The pure joy on his face after the first lick on a squier bullet, tells us all we need to know about Dave Simpson. Love this channel
there is some great fender squires out there and you just got one ,it sounds like the real deal.and the price is crazy.well done Dave.you deserved it.
Well if Rhcp lose John again I think u should take his place, no joke
My Guitar Absolutely .
Exactly...as soon i heard him play RHCP was hovering in my mind🤯🤯 incredible man!
Word up 👌
for sure, dave hase amazing passion and emotion in his solos and sound a lot like john
Loved watching your videos for the past few years, but I reckon my favourites are when you’re ‘just’ noodling away on a new guitar. All the different styles and techniques that come so naturally to you just blow us mere mortal guitarists away. A real joy to watch this video Dave - awesome!
Ok Dave, i get it, i’m at a loss for words also. Your love of music and guitar just shines “the dude abides”
My goodness. Good gravy even!!!! You are so damn talented. It's a joy to watch you play. You sir are fantastic.
neck dimension on those Squiers are perfect for me - I like your style Dave you don't care what logo is slapped on that headstock
The Squire Bullet is my "traveling" Guitar and i have to say, for that cheap price the Bullet is really likeable.
I got mine in sunburst.
Still got the same guitar?
Man Dave……that reaction at the 15 min and 50 second mark was GOLD!!!! Love it! Rock On!
Thank you and thats awesome. : )
Red strats ALWAYS sound better. Nice work on that beast
Peace!!!
Cheap guitars are well made nowadays, so no point in spending thousands just to have a made in the usa sticker.
Robots make good guitars.
@@clivedavies3 try the harley benton line guys. They're awesome.
I could listen to him play for hours!!! amazing, sounds so gorgeous, every single vibe captured so well
Dave, the only man who could make people consider buying a Bullet strat.
That room brings on a feeling of turkish delight! Nice to have the scratchplate match the rug and throw.
Dave, this guitar came in today and I'm seriously selling my Mexican Fender 60s stratocaster. That's how much I Iove it. Thank you for that
:)
15:50 convinced me of ordering one! Your enthusiasm is amazing!
OK Dave. I think I've found my new GUITAR HERO...
Dave ... You are truly gifted ... Your guitar playing is sick ... Fabulous stuff ... 😎✌️
watching you playing this cheap guitar (i own this one too) got me goosebump and im in tears. dude, thats beautiful. its your soul singing through this guitar, deeper than the deepest. thank you for the inspiration! ❤❤
Dave, I LOVE that you still have the PlayStation 1. That was my favorite system for many many years.
Had to fight the tears comin to my eyes when you started playin it
WOW ... i'm impressed!
But ... let's not forget you are able to play on everything (with strings) and make it sound good (;-)) ... one of the main fun reasons to monitor your channel for a couple of years by now ...
But ... i do agree. Did play a lot of Squiers at my goto shop in Berlin ... never disappointing.
Thanks a lot for sharing.
Fabulous video Dave, love how you were so enthusiastic about it.
Thank you , my friend
Now if only , I open mine and could play like you . That would be , out of this world !
Everybody reading this, send this video to Fender. Let's get Dave hooked up!!
morddas if I knew how I would
Twitter? @Fender
I just got an Arctic White HT Bullet last week. No fret sprouts, neck is straight, intonation and action are perfect. Couldn't be happier. Best $199 CAD I've ever spent. Love the video and playing! 🤘
Dave is literally the best guitar player on RUclips no doubt
I just took mine home yesterday. I love it! It's got a bridge humbucker, but basically the same guitar. Mine's finished in a brown sunburst. It's awesome!!! An early Christmas gift from my sweet wife!!
I enjoyed watching this video so much. Funny, excitement and So much talent.
Awesome, Dave every time I see you play. 👌🏽👍🏼🎸
I know that feeling bro, I got my sister a red Affinity Squier for Christmas and I absolutely love it. It plays and feels SOO good.
Now she's stopped playing and I get to have it..... :D
Dave!!!! You are, to me, what john frusciante is to you!!!! Bro you play so damn well!!!!
The body is thinner / lighter than my USA strat and I feel the hard tail bridge eliminates the worst component on a typical cheapo guitar... a crappy trem
the pickups don't sound like my USA strat either of course, but that's a good thing. they sound great and have their own personality, great sustain and no unexpected noises... I also have a Squier Standard I bought about 12 years ago and this blows it away, maybe it's hit or miss but I sure lucked out!
The famous Jack Pearson went on tour with the Allman Brothers and used a stock Squier Bullet for the entire tour.
Here is his account of how he came to use a Squier Bullet. ruclips.net/video/EW_ajThs8Vo/видео.html
As with Jack Pearson this Squier Bullet's performance in this video has a lot to do with Dave Simpson's guitar playing ability.
Neck thickness at 1st and 12th frets:
Squier Bullet Strat' : 20.6 mm 22 mm
Harley Benton ST-62DLX: 22.3 mm 24.5 mm
1956 Fender V profile: 22.4 mm 24.9 mm
1960s Fender "Oval C": 20.1 mm 23.6 mm
2010 Squier Classic Vibe 60 Strat': 21.5 mm 23.6 mm
2019 Fender "Modern C": 20.8 mm 22.1 mm
I changed the scratch plate on my Squier for a Mint Green, then had to change the pick up covers and knobs as they looked way to white. Great, awesome playing loved the bottle neck stuff.
What a guitar player..You are the best.Greetings from Switzerland.
Come on everybody let’s start start sharing this video to all our friends and contacts. This has got to be one of the best reviews of a Squier
That’s so funny man. Hiding behind the box. That shit had me laughing my ass off.
Inspired playing, brother Dave! Just ordered on of those Bullet HT in sunburst, can't wait! Mine will have the HB bridge PU. And, yes, the Squiers to come thru gritty and dirty, but as you've shown-they clean up well! Keep on rockin', Dave!
Awesome man you've gotta love a squire,
And coupled with a boss katana, pure tone heaven man, God bless you man🙏👏👏👏✌
Damn, Dave... I could seriously sit and listen to you play all day. Watching the joy and enthusiasm you play with just awesome. Much love to ya man, holy shit lol... Keep bendin those strings!!!
Still got the blues my man. I'd say goodbye to that Harley Benton if it weren't for all that time you put in it with the neck sanding and whatnot.
Jeez, I thought at one point that guitar was talking to me! One hell of a player dude...
I've gotten so into Squiers. Out of the box, even....But, fun to mod, refinish, and mess around with, too. Cool video, man.
