  • In this three part series we retrace Marco Polo’s legendary journey from Venice to the far reaches of the Mongol Empire, which he started in 1271. His travels 700 years ago revealed an exotic world of riches the west had little knowledge of. But how does his journey look today?
    0:00:05 - Another World: we travel from Venice to the Holy Land, through the Middle East to the home of the assassins of Alamut in today's Iran.
    0:47:18 - Lost Worlds: we travel from the Silk Road to Xanadu while examining Mongolian horses, bronze-age mummies and ancient caravan routes.
    1:33:13 - The New World: we travel through the heartland of China, from Beijing to the City of Heaven.

    "everyone that dares to change, takes a leap into the unknown" I like that quote. I was intimidated into conformity and broke me mentally and physically, I'm going towards a major change in my life, leaving behind all the ways everyone wanted me to be, and finding my own way.

    The only thing I don’t like about new documentaries is I usually listen to them and to have no translation narration can make it rough I don’t mind if I’m watching, watching reading subtitles.

    Thank you so much for sharing so much culture and history. I'm afraid for some of us, it's the capitalist future and for some of us it's a longing to go back to smaller communities and a different kind of happiness. I just pray it's closer to nature, each other and God. God bless us all as we come to terms with truth, our hearts and all of our futures together.

    Marco Polo was one of my heroes as a child. I have seen and read all on him but this documentary is truly the most interesting I have seen. It shows Marco Polo, no matter the historical questions, as a model for a TCK., IMO. The TCK journey is a lonely one in contrast with the massive waves of immigrations we see now. It is you, alone, against "them" every time and it remains up to you to deal with all the preconceived ides you harbour. that's the journey. The real understanding of diversity, acceptance, discovering what values to keep and which to reject. Marco Polo is faced with the need to integrate because he is alone. He cannot hide in a ghetto mentality.
    Thank you.
    NB: this is about Maarco Polo and his voyage of discovery of the Mongol Empire but somehow it ends being a propaganda piece for China! So, IMO, beware of arrogance and thirst for power like every other zenophobic nation on Earth. Learn from "Deutschland uber alles" it did not end as they wanted.

    Isn't it every country that thinks its women are the most beautiful? The most desirable? A young Italian man interested in women...who would have guessed?

    • @1traphistory
      @1traphistory Год назад

      There are many accounts in history where people accredited foreign places as having the most beautiful women. Slavic territories of antiquity were one of those places. They were sold as slaves at inflated prices because of their perceived beauty in other non Slavic regions far and wide.

    as an history Channel, you surprisingly miss one major starting point, e.i., the Holy land is first and foremost a jewish land. the Muslim came in 650 and occupied this land while the Jewish people established themselves and found Jerusalem almost 2000 years prior. where is my history ?

    • @1traphistory
      @1traphistory Год назад

      Nope, even the Bible speaks on how the Jews entered that land and were told by god to massacre the inhabitants that were already living there. Not that they were Muslims either but my theory is that they were Afro Asiatics.

    Here´s the problem with her comment regarding a clash of civilizations. The succeeding comment about knights doing it for only money is mostly true, but not all of them. Here is WHY: The muslims slaughtered their way from the Arabic peninsula a killing any Christian Arabs (and still do if they say anything about Christ), Christian Egyptians, and through to Israel and Syria doing the same. IT was NEVER their land. And still isn´t. The clash is of an invader with a cultic religion. THAT is why there will never be peace between The Godly Christian &Jews versus the muslims. It is Christ versus Satan.
