  • Welcome back to another car review! Today we're checking out our first New Edge Mustang. This New Edge is a 2003 Mustang V6 packing the 3.8L V6 engine. The SN95 New Edge is one of the most famous Mustangs out there. This particular 2003 Mustang V6 is definitely a shinning example of the New Edge Mustang and because of its condition, it gave me a proper look back at what Ford wanted this Mustang V6 to be.

      Except for the fact that the stock axle fails at around 130mph and it costs $700-$1200 to get a better one. The governor will stop you at around 120 mph though.

    Best quote, "It will go when you want it to go. It doesn't necessarily want to go but if you force it to." I have a 1999 v6 and that kinda sums it up. The only time it seems fast is when a prius is next to you

      It wasn't a bad motor, just wasn't very sporty. As a daily driver it was fine and the car handled nicely so it was decently fun. As long as you don't try to race anyone then it'll be alright! Haha

    Actually, one thing I love about the SN95 V6 is that it isn't particularly fast, and it doesn't need to be. You can enjoy driving a Mustang without getting into the whole competitive aspect of speed and horsepower, and while salty V8 owners might look down on you, who cares about their opinion anyway? People seem to forget that the Mustang wasn't originally meant to be a sports car - it was a stylish, cheap car that anyone could afford. The performance aspect came later. In essence, the V6, and especially the rather slow SN95 V6, is more like the original Mustang than any of the "better" V8 muscle cars - it's a regular car that has a special style and flair to it that makes it unique. Anyone who says it isn't a "real Mustang" doesn't know what a real Mustang is. The V6 SN95 is too a real Mustang, and I'd be proud to drive one.

      HeyThisIsGraham Awesome video btw well done! Even though I love my '17 GT, I really wish it was smaller and lighter, size wise closer to the dimensions of the Mustangs pre-2005. I hope they return to the Mustang roots and reduce the overall dimensions and especially some weight reduction. The car could easily lose a foot off the overall length.

    • @GrahamCain
      @GrahamCain  6 лет назад +1

    I bought a brand new 2001 V6 and drove it from Eastern Canada to Colorado for work. I worked in the USA Rockies with it for 6 years before moving to Western Canada. I then returned it to Eastern Canada after it had been away from there for 10 years and it got wrecked a year later. At the time it was wrecked it had 262,000 miles and it looked like a car with less than 100,000 miles on the outside, the interior, the engine bay, underneath. It was a super clean car, a great car that served me well. It still ran great too. Here’s the story of my car along with a pic. I swear there was not a 2001 V6 on the planet that had as many miles as this car did and was in the immaculate shape and driving condition that it was. Almost 6 years later it still annoys me when I think of how it got wrecked. I was on a mission to see how many miles I could get on it and to store the car at some point to keep forever. social.ford.com/en_US/posts/ownership/first-new-car/9367-ford-tough-1.html?page=1

    • @GrahamCain

    • @newfie-dean5803
      @newfie-dean5803 6 лет назад

      Graham Cain yeah, it was a sad and surreal moment when it was wrecked. The good news is that I still have my 2006 Mustang GT that was purchased in Colorado and that car is in mint shape with only 94,000 miles on it so there’s lots of life left in it. It’s garaged stored 6 months of the year and driven only once per week on nice days in nice weather months, garage stored when not driven. The garage I store it in has no windows so the car is always in the dark and the paint on it is still like new. Mustangs are great cars, quite reliable if you maintain them. I’ve had four and I’m planning to get another one at some point hopefully. I really want the new Bullitt or a new Shelby!

    I always used to love the New Edge Mustang. As a kid, I always knew cars from various styling elements that were unique. C5 Corvettes had the famed round tail lights. New Edge Mustangs had "MUSTANG" embossed in the bumper, unless it was a Cobra ;)

    • @GrahamCain
      @GrahamCain  6 лет назад

      Yeah, the New Edge SN95 was the Mustang that I grew up drooling over. I remember seeing the Terminator Cobras when they first came out. That Sonic Blue is originally what made me fall in love with the Mustangs but I was crazy for the 60s styling. I'm glad it came back for the 05+ Mustangs. Once I saw the S197s I knew that it was the car that I had to have and here I am with my 13. Haha

      @William-13 5 лет назад

      I had to have my intake manifold lever connectors replaced after 90,000 miles. That is something you need to consider when you are specifically looking into the v6. A brand new tune up with new spark plugs and wires should be done for starters with any Mustang. Other than that, the SN-95 v6 is super reliable.

      My '99 was daily driver and long road-trip reliable with over 237,000 miles on it until it got destroyed by an uninsured driver last November.
      My 2002 that I found to replace it was like a "time machine," looking and driving like it just rolled new off the lot, with 97,000 on it when I bought it in late November of last year. 102,000 miles on it now, and the transmission decided to shit itself, but it's fixed now and I expect a long, trouble-free life out of the car.

    It only makes 150 hp not 190 hp. You need to do some mods to get to that. Like full exhaust gears cold air intake a coil pack and tune to make 190hp

      @RODRIGUEZ 509 There's nothing wrong with an automatic. Drag racers have been using them for decades in all kinds of cars. The 4R70W used in the New Edge cars has a lot of aftermarket support and can be built to handle a lot more horsepower and torque than a T-5 or T-56 manual will be happy handling. The 4R70W in my '99 lasted for 237,000 miles and would likely still be working fine if the car hadn't of been destroyed by an uninsured driver. The 4R70W in my 2002 shit itself last week, but getting that fixed wasn't a major pain in the ass. I ended up spending as much on the transmission in the car now as I paid for the whole car back in November of last year, but I don't care. I like the car. And the transmission crapping itself was a good excuse to have a high performance overhaul / rebuild that will probably out-live me.
      I don't drive like an idiot on public roads. Traffic in the little college town I live in can be a pain in the ass. When I road-trip to California, the thing goes in overdrive and stays there until my first fuel stop in Amarillo, TX. Back out on the Interstate, it stays in overdrive all the way to Moriarty, New Mexico. And it stays in overdrive from there to Kingman, Arizona, too. I wouldn't be shifting a five-speed manual a hell of a lot while road-tripping on Interstate highways, either. But when I get to Barstow, California, the slushbox is a freakin' godsend. My last three trips to California, I had bumper-to-bumper, stop and go traffic for 150 miles from Barstow to my parent's house in Orange County. I don't miss the thrill of shifting between first and second myself in that kind of traffic at all.
      When I got my first New Edge, I would have rather had a five-speed manual. I bought my '99 because it was in good overall condition. I DO drive like an idiot on autocross courses and I like the automatic for that far better than I thought I would. On most autocross courses, the car will go as fast as I need it to in second gear, so I'm only using first and second. I liked the automatic for autocross so much that when my '99 got wrecked, I didn't bother wasting time looking for a five-speed manual equipped replacement. The flat torque curve of the 3.8 seems like it "plays nice" with wide-ratio automatic transmission gearing, so I don't think I'm at a huge disadvantage at all.
      In short, for what I actually do with my car, I'd rather have the automatic transmission, but I would have never known that if I could have found a five-speed car that wasn't beat to crap and modded by some kid who thinks he knows more about automotive engineering than real automotive engineers do.
