The cops yelled into the room with the shooter if people were still in there, a kid identified themselves feeling safe, and the shooter killed them immediately. The kid spent the last second of their life thinking the cop was there to save them and not there to make them target practice for the shooter.
If the shooter is murdering a child his gun isn't aimed at the door. She died as a distraction so the ballistic shields and cop equipment didn't get dinged up.

This sounds awful but I’m not even surprised when there is a shooting anymore. As an American, every time I go somewhere, there’s this eerie fear I have where I’m afraid that if I go into this store or restaurant, I might not come out of it because there might be a shooting. It’s terrifying.
I woke up on the fourth of July and I legitimately thought "how bad is the shooting today?" Because I knew there *would* be one, because that's how it is in this country. It's no longer a matter of if its a matter of how bad it will be.
And then the husband of one of those teachers who died had a heart attack shortly after and also passed away. They left behind 4 children. Maybe both of them could still be here for their children if the cops had actually gone in right away.

Gun sales always tend go up after mass shootings. That's not to say that all those cops were in on it, but by all accounts they only stood down because they were ordered to do so. I doubt it's true, but there is just something very weird about this whole situation and I feel like there some crucial piece of the puzzle missing.
Maybe if it was an office complex or a warehouse or someplace which may have valuable information, but this is an elementary school in some random city over 50 miles away from a major population center (San Antonio). I'd say it's particularly bad in some areas, but there's a huge distrust between police and people of color in this country regardless of area. Police can be overly aggressive - depends on the officer and how well they are trained. They aren't trained well with how to handle mentally ill people so it's more common to see cops shooting mentally ill people (ex - someone is brandishing a knife but is clearly ill and not actively stabbing) versus trying to deescalate.
