My home has changed so much through the years and I don’t know if it will ever be the place I grew up in ever again

Nothing stays the same my friend, as much as we'd love it to at times, you've got to embrace the change or you risk becoming disconnected and left behind

Feels unreal. The everyday Vehicles is what really defines the era. I arrived in Melbourne 2010 so still before everyone having smartphones, didn't feel too long ago. That COVID era was a doozy, but hope there's someone making a video this year for the people 20 years from now (Aug 2024).

I was 19 then. Born & raised in Melbourne. The charm and ease of Melbourne then, from the city right through to the suburbs, is no longer there, and with it the sense of community and connection.

Melbourne has changes a lot in 21 years since year 2000. It really started to expand in population and boom and Melbourne skyline started to expand today and has an very impressive skyline today similar Manhattan in New York City. A sign the city has experienced great growth boom time in the last 21 years. However it also in the last 21 years has become a very expensive city to live in. Back in Mar 2000. It was a very reasonoble city to live in. Accomadation etc, livin costs were all quite cheap yet had a great standard of livin. Its amazing how in a matter of years it became a very expensive city to live in while still a city with a good standard of living where if you were middle class you will be alright in Melbourne but last 21 years. The city has become more and more a struggle to live in for lower and working class people. Where as in the 1990s and in year 2000 March when this video was shot. Even if you were a low paid working minimum wage you still had a really great life in Melbourne. Yeah in the last 21 years if you are middle class the city has been good. But if you are lower paid living in this great city has progressively become more and more a struggle in the last 21 years like all big western cities in Australia, U.S. and Canada.

The cars look so old and the skyline was so flat! I wasnt quite alive when this was filmed, was still brewing but this had so much nostalgia. I viewed this is in the same lense as my early memories, those ones between 2-5 where you have some core memories but they're all hazy. Crazy to see the environment with clarity where some of those memories were made

The Realto lifts appear to be Otis computer controlled ones based on the indicators! The same indicators are also in the Southgate shopping centre lifts! :)

Melbourne was nice back then, over development & greed has ruined what was a great city with soul to grow up in the 80’s & 90’s…

I remember going on a day trip with my school to Melbourne in 1999 and we all up to the top of the Rialto. Was such a great city back then, not like today with the amount of people, inflation etc. - a million dollars today is a run-down house in Broadmeadows if you're lucky!!

Lived in Melbourne between 1989 to 2002, then moved to Sydney, before moving to USA. Only 13 years, but it is home to me.

You only have to notice what's *not* in the video to come to understand why this city has declined the way it has. And you know exactly what I mean...

I was 3 years old when you filmed this. I have very vague memories of Telstra Dome (as I remember it) being called "Colonial Stadium" (as seen at 2:54), but to me, it will always be Telstra Dome (even though the sponsorship's since changed to Etihad and now Marvel).

2000 year it was the age of old combustion cars and analogue start of digital internet.
now in 2023 to 2024 the cars are advancing to digital electric cars.
many years away from 2023 we will be using halo vehicles smart cars with halographic digital technologies and no combustion but electric and solar power which is my prediction. physical computers and technologies will be replaced by halograms.
