Franz Schubert
Work: Symphony No.2 in B-flat major, D.125 (1815)
Mov.I: Largo - Allegro vivace 00:00
Mov.II: Andante 14:07
Mov.III: Menuetto: Allegro vivace 22:20
Mov.IV: Presto vivace 25:32
Orchestra: Failoni Orchestra
Conductor: Michael Halász
In the opening movement, the initial theme of the Allegro vivace is based on the corresponding first theme of Ludwig van Beethoven's overture to The Creatures of Prometheus.
The second movement is a theme with five variations in E flat major. Although there is some variation in the melody, the primary focus of the variations are on instrumentation and tone color. The first variation features violins and winds. The second variation passes the theme between the low strings and the woodwinds. The third variation is again violins and winds. The fourth variation is in C minor and features some acceleration with the use triplet-sixteenth notes. The fifth variation maintains the triplet-sixteenths, but they move into the background with the melody returning close to its original form as a kind of recapitulation. A coda concludes the movement.
The minuet is in C minor and mainly scored for the tutti and fortissimo. The contrasting Trio in E flat major is more thinly scored winds, violins and pizzicato bass. The melody of the trio is actually a variation of the theme used in the second movement forming a melodic and harmonic (E-flat/C minor) link is made between the inner two movements.
The finale is a galop in fast 2/4 time. - Видеоклипы

one of those symphonies where every note and phrase flows so perfectly from one moment to the next it feels absolutely perfect
Those are my words also, but on all of Schubet symphonies he was an absolute genius of armonie The Mozart of the XIX century
I agree, his music is very harmonious and elegant
There's a certain elegance to it that gives you goosebumps.
Amazing, what a talent!!! I am in quarantine for 14 days alone in Italy (yes could be worse!) and this music is just amazing to listen to. Thanks for posting it!!
One of the best music pieces ever written, good from beginning to end.
Schubert 2 is a huge stride from symphony 1... the two outer movements are phenomenal..
Ever since I re-discovered this magnificent piece of music, here in RUclips, I keep on returning to this channel to listen to this wonderful symphony over and over again. Perhaps because I frequently listened to this symphony during my youth...
Perhaps because every single note profoundly touches my heart...
Perhaps because I empathize so much with the composer's tragic life... OR
Perhaps because Schubert was also the favorite composer of Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (a historical entity whom I greatly admire)...
Whatever the reason behind my profound attachment to Schubert's work - especially his first two symphonies - there is no question that this brilliant contributor to the tradition of Western classical music should be considered the greatest composer of the Nineteenth Century, and one of the best artists that has ever lived!
@ A.M. cosidered. ;)
I'm with you! Schubert was unique.
Well, seeing as you like it so much, Amadeu, why don't you learn to play it, on one of the orchestra instruments ?
Salieri was his main teacher. Salieri once said of him in a classroom... at 15 or 16... "This one will do great things."
It's because you're gay. You're into men. That's why you're coming here. Don't watch my channel.
Glorious , magnificent 🤗, Thank you Schubert !!😇
This is one of the most magnificent pieces from Schubert, his Second Symphony...
It's simply marvelous!
Thanks for posting this symphony and for introducing me to this orchestra and conductor, who I hadn't previously encountered. I've also now listened to their equally good performance of Schubert's 4th symphony on RUclips and look forward to hearing others. It seems that Halasz was over 70 years old when he made these recordings, yet they capture all of Schubert's zest and youthful energy. I wonder if some of the musicians also play in the Budapest Festival Orchestra with another great modern Hungarian conductor, Ivan Fischer, who has impressed me even since I saw him on TV winning a conducting competition in the 1970s. Musical life is well and truly flourishing in Budapest!

Without Schubert and his great performers and splendid conductors such as this orchestra ,

todo lo de schubert es maravilloso.
This is music,Thank you
Another beautiful symphony by the composer!
Splendid performance! Hats off to our friends in Budapest! This is the level of accuracy required; light but strong, emphatic but never overt. All the phrases and emblematic passages are handled deftly by all the players. One can only imagine what this young man was up to in 1815 while taking this down from God. You know that much of this was cribbed from Joseph Haydn, which is perfectly fine in my view. More modern orchestrators should try more from the same orchestral pallet. Best.
Schubert is simply magnificent...to this age..O.o
I played this to listen while studying but it's so good I can't concentrate XD lol...

Am I the only one whose favorite work of this symphony is the third movement? That is such a dramatic piece, I love it. (The rest is of course a masterwork as well)
I absolutely agree.

And the last movement of this symphony was written years before William Tell
Thank You!!....
We can hear the movements of modern society, people are running to and fro, and machines are working in a quick rhythm day by day.
What a perfection. And he was only 18 years old .......
I heard he was 19 when he wrote his fifth. I guess he became an adult, sat down, and said: “Alright, time to crank out a ton of symphonies!”

when beethoven died, he past the torch to Schubert. He was not only prolific in his short life, but a master of melody. No wonder he's Philip Glass favorite composer!

In case you are wondering the art, it is from Carlo Bassoli. The view to Constantinople.
What incredible dynamic in this composition ... even though almost unrecognizable.
As if he was 'constructing' it just for the sake of writing a Symphony. Much prefer the
later works of Franz Schubert. But, it was interesting to listen to it for sure ~ thank you!
I have to play this piece for an audition and I'm freaking out

Some composers formulate music. Others, like Schubert, receive musical messages from the gods and pass them along to us.
The "cover" is elegant but it could have been any other city in the world.
Both Schubert and Mozart died in their 30's. What a great loss for Vienna and the humanity. At least Schubert's cause of death is well known (TB) but that of Mozart remains a mystery.
Yes indeed was a great loss for mankind and music. What shame
They both produced a tremendous outpouring of work. It's very possible that both were like comets streaking across the sky. Not really from here and not meant to stay here. We are grateful for their continuing presence in our lives, through their music and the musicians who render it.
no , was syphlis
Ità possible, maybe also an other illness, but never Poison and its a great lie to say, that Salieri was the bad man. Salieri was more a frriend than an enemy of Mozart. In This time many people died in joung age, no Hygiene, and Syphilis and Tripper where all to get.

As inserções de comerciais, principalmente aquelas feitas no decorrer da audição, além de um sério e inexplicável desrespeito ao compositor, músicos e aos que a acompanham, causam a mim o sentimento de repulsa à marca e/ou produtos anunciados. Nada justifica tal atitude.

Not bad for an eighteen-year-old!
The first movement sounds very much like an overture
What does an “Overture” sound like? Since that isn’t a predetermined form or style right? (I know and love many overtures so I know what it is, but makes this first movement sound like one?)
Genuinely curious.
This is very good to take Beethoven’s theme but why doesn’t go to him to second street?

When and where was this symphony first performed?
Probably privately by Schubert's small group of friends. He probably never heard most of his symphonies performed publicly - certainly not the great later ones.
@@iankemp1131
Why did he not hear them publicly? I know he died young, but surely his work was performed on the regular
@@FreakieFan No, Schubert was largely unknown in his lifetime except among his circle of close friends in Vienna. Many of his greatest works were published posthumously. We have Mendelssohn, George Grove and others to thank for tracking them down. The early symphonies (1-6) were written in his teens and he did get a chance to hear them played by their amateur orchestra at least. It seems he never heard the Unfinished or the Great C Major at all!

I like the picture, but it has a glaring fault! The lady in the swing is too far from the ground for that man on the right to push her. Also, she is too high up even to get into the swing. However, it is pretty
I am not sure about that. It can also be that from the higher angle this painter is looking at the scene, it seems like that, but when you move down your viewpoint, she will appear much closer to the ground. I am pretty sure the angle is fooling you to believe she is higher that she really is.
It's art... Maybe it's done on purpose to convey the euphoria and uplift that swinging gives you.

C'est dans le style de Haydn et non de Mozart.
k minue? A ver si te piensas k ser 1 genio del arte te convierte en un ser infalible y semidivino. Tb meten pifiazos y tienen k madurar como artistas
TheDiasneb This work, admittedly early in the composer's career, does use features of Mozart's and Haydn's styles, but would never be confused with a work of theirs. He was already finding his own path, and don't forget, by the time he wrote this work, he had already heard many works of Beethoven.
This particular symphony remains my favorite of Schubert's early six, as a totality. I could point out the ineffably beautiful slow movements of Nos. 4 and 5, but as a complete work, this one impresses me the most, for its essentially
self-assured nature. I even prefer this work to the "Great" C Major, which over the years. I've drawn more and more away from. The Unfinished and the Grand Duo symphonies are another matter.
As for the presentation, aside from the very poor sound, I will say that I like that the conductor observes all repeats in the slow movement - in the minuet they must all be observed anyway. In the two outer movements, though marked, they are really unnecessary, as the respective exposition sections are quite concentrated and lengthy to begin with.
I have issues with tempos. The slow movement needs to be taken far more lyrically, and not as a superficial and casual run through. And the main section of the minuet needs to be slowed down somewhat to bring it closer in tempo with that of the trio, which does work here. There should not be this sharp change of tempo between the two sections.
To the poster: you might mention that the minuet movement is a direct development of the material from the slow movement, both in its main section and trio. And I wouldn't quite dismiss the last movement as a gallop and leave it at that. It is clearly constructed on lines very similar to the first movement, with extended, double prong second theme group sections. I do not believe that Schubert ever returned to this structure, certainly not in his symphonies. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
