I disagree with Martin... I don't think he is a bad guy. OK he's done some questionable things in the past but who hasn't and also he may be a little bit cocky and arrogant but that doesn't make him a bad guy. Martin might think he's the anti hero but to me he is the hero of the show and I'm glad he survived because Line of duty would not be Line of duty without the waistcoat wearing DS Arnott 😊
SussexGal78 I agree, I think that he is a really good/pure/selfless character because he cares for the truth and for justice for other people, often compromising his own well being for that sake. He is without a doubt the hero.
Couldn't agree more, I like him *because* he is flawed. Like Martin says he's not instantly likable and makes a lot of mistakes but he's also dedicated to his job and doesn't compromise his morals. I think he's a very refreshing change from the typical TV cop.
He's definitely grown up during the 5 series, at the beginning he was a bit more arrogant and unlikeable but as we've seen him go through challenges and get closer to Ted and Kate he's become more of a team player I think

Well it is shown on bbc but the confusion probably comes from the production company that makes line of duty is owned by itv studios.
It's a relief to know that he was written to not be instantly likeable, because I thought I was the only one that didn't like him in the first season
In season one when he was chasing Lennie James’s character D.I. Gates who wasn’t all that bent compared to who they’re involved with now arnott was unlike able,I was half rooting for gates to come good and get the better of him. Since then arnott has become the hero though
DS Arnott has done some dumb shit so i understand Martins point, we the audience probably think Steve for gods sake. But his relentless pursuit of the truth and the sacrifices hes made is now the reason hes our favourite character.

I don't know. I think it's pointing towards Roz's husband, but that could be a red herring? Maybe it's Roz herself? Or Roz's crawling colleague who will do anything for her? It's got me gripped. The best show on TV along with Homeland.
