You don't just "listen" to a Kate Bush song....you "watch" her song. Both her singing/lyrics and performance elevates her songs to a completely different level. What an artist.....absolutely original and unique.
This is both frightening and so sad. Listen to the text and see the corpse-pale soldiers on the stage. A great song about the absurdity of war. And a performance even more disturbing than the original video. Kate Bush - genius.
I love the fact that here, at one of many high point periods in Kate's career, and not discounting her physical presence, she comes out dressed like a middle-aged homemaker, very much dressed down, not at all glamorous, and it's perfect. Then the traditional dance that she does, as if the mother's grief makes her "go off"...it's all so well-conceived. For such a television show, she could have just come out and done a very straight singing of the song; but, again, apart from the video and the other television performances of "AD", she took the song in another direction. That's what' makes Kate so special--always different, always thoughtful, always new.
The woman on the verge of tears, the soldiers with the PTSD thousand yard stare, plus the pale complexion and dirty skin looking like corpses dug up, and then you have the haunting echo of the drill sergeant. Incredible stuff
Tracey C jesus christ how did they allow that you should get him out immediatly ..you shold be over 16 to enter the army a baby will be defenceless out there !
She's phenomenal. The artistry and detail in everything she crafts is just over the top. I've known this song for decades and it's the first time I've seen this video. Blown away.
She did huge numbers of TV appearences back in the day and this is one of them on german TV I'd never seen it before I saw it on YT. But she wasn't the most dazzling interviewee shes a very shy person and not at all comfortable in front of the camera.
Two days ago I spent my 21st birthday on military excercise instead being with my mom or my girlfriend celebrating. Heard this song and had to run to the restroom cause I dont want my buddies to see my crying..
The female equivalent to Bowie. Totally unique, does her own thing, doesn't bow to commercial pressure, immensely talented, yet very humble. I utterly adore her.
It's frightening how relevant this song is today. The military insustrial complex chews up poor and disenfranchised children and spits out either corpses or emotionally and/or physically debilitated adults. All so Lockheed Martin or Raytheon or whatever can make more money. We'll chase profits right off a cliff, and it seems like we might do it soon.
No one compares to Kate Bush. But I see moves that make me think of Aurora in this video. I bet Aurora likes Kate Bush. Y’all should check her out, she’s the one I’ve found lately that I feel carries on this beautiful kind of this interpretive storytelling genre Kate created with her music.
She made this (around 1980s) bc of the young adults having to go into war because of poverty and showing it from a mother's perspective, its truly sad the youngest boys recruited were around 9 to 10
@@amethystrose2671 Honestly, it's probably both. The whispers keep saying, 'should’ve been a rockstar, politician, father,' as if she’s imagining them in these roles-more than just army dreamers. The soldier with the bouzouki (an Irish guitar) seems to symbolize the rockstar. The drill sergeant, with his commanding presence, could represent the politician, issuing orders that must be followed, even when we can't see who holds the power. And the soldier with the teddy bear might symbolize the soldier's youth or perhaps a keepsake from his children that he carries with him.
