Mell has a special place in my heart. When I was 16, my life fell apart hard. I lost my grandma to cancer. My girlfriend dumped me a few weeks after that, she was the only real relationship I ever had. Then, my dad passes away from medical malpractice. All of this happened within a year. I soon graduated school. I went into full seclusion. Only ever going out when I absolutely had to. I disconnected and pushed everyone away. I was done with everyone and everything. I honestly can't remember how long I secluded myself. Anywhere from 1 month to 6 months. Time melts together when you're secluded. I was browsing RUclips one night and I discovered the song Stay the Same. I felt compelled to click on the video and watched it.
I finally felt like I was truly not alone. She helped me overcome the fear of getting hurt and I reconnected with a lot of people. That was before the translated version of the song was released. I watched it again when I found the translation. My heart broke in half. I had put most energy I had during the second half of my childhood into hating my mom, hating hispanics. That's what I was taught to feel. I was a neglected child who was also bullied for the majority of school. Everything wasn't so bad before I was 10 years old when mom and dad were together. Reading the lyrics and truly listening to the meaning of the song took me back to how I felt back then. The song got a double meaning for me. I wasn't hateful back then. I was quite the opposite. Optimistic and usually comes off as annoying sometimes. but that was me. I gave up my hatred of what I was taught and reconnected with mom after a decade of not speaking with her. You can teach all the hate you want, but deep down, we all stay the same.
Mell did give off the reclusive vibes even though that's not part of her story, but my initial interpretation of her character helped me reconnect and give up a huge negative part of myself. I can't be thankful enough. Thank you Sanrio.

Mell is so relateable for some reason.. I am part french and am also extreamly shy and for the past 2 years been trying to find friends. Mell has such a special place in my heart if im being truthful.

I saw her for the first time in the character introduction musical video of Sanrio, in where she sing the whole song and she instantly caught my attention, I wasn't such a big sanrio fan at the time I saw it (I only knew My Melody, Kuromi and basically most of the characters that sanrio had exported to the americas), but she had something different from the rest of the characters, and I instantly wanted to know more about her
She's my absolute favorite character now, I met and fell in love with all the cast of characters of her series and I even conviced my mom of buying me a plushie of her! I'm glad to see that she's getting more recognition outside of Japan, Sanrio definitely should export her to the rest of the world!
Aren't her songs amazing? I feel like she is such a special character that offers so much. The U.S. Sanrio store had some merch of her recently, and I was so excited! I hope it means they'll be exporting more of her stuff here soon. :D
