Tortilla Talk: What advice can you give us single gals trying to find our happy ending? Love watching your happy family with Eric, especially after being a long time watcher and knowing your love life wasn’t always this beautiful.
Coming from a nanny, ( I know I will never understand how hard it is until I’m a mother myself) BUT; it makes my job SO much harder when I know everyone is listening and ready to jump in at any minute. I always feel on high alert and typically I do much better when I know it’s solely my responsibility to care for the kids, and so do the kids! I find that there’s a lot of grey area where i’m not sure what exactly is my responsibility and what the mom is going to want to do. Just my thoughts on the matter, I also find that the in and out of parents makes the kids a lot more emotional when they get a little older. It’s hard stuff, I totally understand both sides!!!
Extremely well said! As a nanny, you are being paid as a professional to come and look after the children. The parents must respect that or the whole relationship between parent/carer will fall apart. You wouldn't take over the plumber's job or the gardener's job when they're in the middle of it!
From a fellow control freak: It took my husband and a nanny sitting me down to let them know that my CONSTANT attention (not letting go) was making them feel like I thought they weren't capable. Not that I EVER thought that but it took them letting me know how it made them feel to finally let go a little. 😘
I am a control freak but part of my problem is that nobody is as capable as I am. Nobody in the world can take better care of my kids than me in my opinion. Maybe I need therapy lol. I adore my husband but I can only 100% trust my own parenting. I pay attention to every little thing.
Yes yes yes! Coming from a nanny it is so important for the parents to trust the caregiver. For me personally the constant attention to detail from parents was nice but also very intimidating to the point where I felt I felt incapable of doing the job they hired me for. You are one of the few content creators that isn’t glamorizing their life, your being true and just generally relatable. Honestly, it is so enriching for your kids to have other people they'll know they can turn to for comfort or help as they grow. It's just not possible for you to always be available (even without work!), so having that 'village' they feel safe with doesn't take away from your importance--it just makes their life more rich. Also, I know you've mourned some of the experiences you had with Flynn that you haven't had with the twins (like breastfeeding), but watching this I was struck by the experiences you get with the twins that you didn't have with Flynn, like easily giggly babies (without colic)! How wonderful to get to experience so much.
Not to overanalyze anything, but a lot of “control” problems with the twins might come from feeling out of control when they were in the NICU. Of course you want to feed them, take care of them, be there when they cry, protect them etc because you were robbed of that essentially, when they were in the NICU. Just a thought, and all the love. YOU ARE DOING GREAT. 💛
Tortilla talk question: When you get packages at your house and then decide you don’t need it (like a prop that doesn’t work out) do you go through the process of returning the item or what do you do with it? Thanks for your videos!

TT question: Hey Colleen, just gotta preface this by saying that please don't feel like this is me criticising you, I love your videos and I just want to know what you think- do you ever wonder about how your kids might feel about having their lives vlogged when they grow up? I know that there's a lot of controversy around family vloggers (and I know that that's not necessarily what you do because you have been vlogging since well before you had kids), but do you ever worry that there might be consequences, or if so what those consequences might be?
That’s a great question! I think Colleen films her children to hold onto cute memories and have somewhat of a visual diary. Maybe that’s why she vlogs them?

Flynn doesn’t even know that millions of people have seen him running around in just a diaper or that they talk about his bowel movements on a podcast. We’ve been watching Flynn grow up in his own home for three years straight-since the moment he came out of the womb. Made me feel so bad for them once I started thinking about it.

She only shows happy moments in which they’re being cute or playing/eating. She could definitely lay off on some details regarding Flynn’s bowel movements etc but I think that her sharing that comes from her experience of telling her vlog all the information about her and her kids have become that now. She definitely needs to work on some of what she over shares but I don’t think she should be considered exploitative like channels that show their kids having tantrums and getting periods for views.
I also wonder about this - for her and esp her brother Christopher. It reminds me a bit of the movie The Truman Show. Will the kids be able to cope as young adults when they arent being filmed and recognized constantly? I hope so, no shade to Colleen and Erik. they are clearly great parents. more a question on the impact of constant filming/being raised on social media. i bet it will be in some university media course one day.

I can understand you wanting to have control. I am the same. Whenever I hear my little one cry I want to be there and make sure to calm him and do everything to make him feel better. I think part of it is just our motherly instinct. So to be somewhere where you can't hear them sounds like a really good solution.
