Bayonetta 3 - Uncivil Synopsis

- Bayonetta 3 is one of the games of all time!
Imagine one of the worst endings to a trilogy of games and think about how it could've been worse...and Bayonetta 3 will still top it, somehow.
Bother me on Twitter: / hypercharge_sam
"They're making 9/11 look like 7/11" 😂
Bayo 3 was trying to be Devil May Cry 5 so bad that it failed. Even tried to do a Vergil x V mix when they added crappy Viola...
I absolutely hated 3 with a passion, and still do. Relearning moves with new weapons, soundtrack is forgettable, and is a complete mockery of Bayonetta 1 and Bayonetta 2. I can’t even look at Origins, and will walk away when Bayonetta 4 is announced. Bayonetta is Cereza’s nickname since she was in a coma for 500 years, and isn’t a mantle to pass down. Thank you for saying what’s been on my mind since the game debuted.
So, did you look at Origins? Cause I unironically think it's great, and respects the franchise more then Bayo 3
The feeling is mutual, regarding Bayonetta 3. If only Viola learned patients, honor, discipline, and fighting tactically (plus saying less cringey lines), I would have respected her! As of now, my respect for the Bayonetta franchise is damaged beyond repair and it can't be fixed...not even by time. What's the point in loving the Bayonetta franchise as Atsuko Takana (Japanese voice actress for Bayonetta) has passed away, and with Viola as a "new generation Bayonetta"?
Many people naively said that time will heal all wounds, but the only wounds that time is incapable of healing are psychological wounds (resulting from a lifetime of disappointments, grievances, and all kinds of traumatic stress).
@@Aktedya1-jt7vw after a long while, I had. Origins left a sour impression, as it only reinforces the disgrace of 3. In my humble opinion, Origins should’ve been dlc, or written better as a proper prequel.
@@Xtarlina27 I understand. Personally, I think the story on it's own was the best we've gotten from a Bayonetta game, so I could look past the references to 3 (It also fleshed out a few things like Faeries and Lukaon)
Been following you for years. Glad to see you’re still making content. Your channel is criminally underrated.
HE RETURNS!
THE KING
This is word for word my exact thought process as i played this game
Always a good day when HyperCharge releases a new video.
You helped me save 60 dollars, thank you. This game is now non existent to me.
Ugh, multiverse. Where writing goes to die. Soon as I hear the word, I'm out.
Good ass video though! Love your stuff dude. Been watching for years, you're one of maybe 4 gaming channels that I still keep up with. Totally worth it!
It’s a shame this game was so THIS, cuz it turned off so many people to Bayonetta Origins as a result which has the best artstyle of the series, and the story actually makes sense, is coherent, and actually rivals Bayo1 for best story of the series, and the characters aren’t dumbed down for plot reasons. I hope once Bayo3’s destruction ceases, more people try Origins cuz so much love went into it and it restored some of my faith in the series (while also recontextualizing Bayo3’s ending to make way more sense and actually undo what people thought happened)
For all the faults Bayo 3 has, I’m glad that it gave you the opportunity to produce this amazing content
Amazing video as always man. Bayo 3 was so disappointing as someone who cared about the characters and their stories, specially with very bad decisions such as splitting Bayo from the 3 games into different beings. While I don't despise Viola as much as everyone else, I still don't understand why Platinum chose to make the name "Bayonetta" some sort of superhero and inheritable name, when it was established since the first game that "Bayonetta" is just the name/identity Cereza adopted after she lost her memory.
I don't even like the beast mechanic, because it's clunky as hell and makes base Bayo/Viola feel extremely weak if you aren't spamming it.
It's easy to tell that while the story was bad from the concept alone, many corners were cut and must be the explanation as to why nothing makes sense. It's a shame that this game turned out the way it did, as it made me avoid Bayonetta Origins entirely and killed any sort of interest I would have for a possible Bayonetta 4.
I've been thinking heavily about why Bayonetta 3 turned out the way it did and I think it mainly comes down to two things.
1) I think the cancelation of Scalebound really screwed over Platinumgames. There's been a giant scramble from them to not be guns for hire and to profit off their own IP, so I feel like they wanted to reuse some of the "beast" mechanics in Bayonetta 3 for their own franchise. It's sort of a weird fit for the series, but I do think it could've turned out better.
2) It's rumored that Platinumgames saw the success of DMC V and then restructured/reinvented the game to be more like it, which is most likely why the development time probably took way longer than it should have. There's a lot of consistent similarities between the two games and I feel like this is where things went a bit off the rails as far as the story goes.
Anyways, I don't know exactly what happened, but I would love to see a behind the scenes over the years to actually know what the hell happened.
@@HyperCharge god damn you read All of that 😅😂
@@HyperCharge agreed, I think astral chain 2 also swayed bayo 3s design decisions.
Seemed like it was busy tryna be all these other games instead of focusing on being bayo.
And there’s no angels… like wtf is this
@@HyperCharge many many reasons.
Original director left in the middle of development, finding a new voice actress for bayo, covid happened, scaling the game back from their original, semi-open world game etc.
It's honestly a miracle the game even came out tbh, can even see how much they had to change, even in the initial gameplay trailer there were tons of differences from the final game.
Heck, theres cut chapters in between the last few chapters that honestly shouldve been in the final game to give time for more build up and explanations
This is the most underrated channel. It's like AVGN on crack
I like Bayo 3’s gameplay a lot, and the weapons and boss fights are super cool, but I agree that the story sucks. I hate the Arch-Eve/Arch-Adam bullshit so much, and it’s ironic considering Bayo & Luka have so little scenes together in the game supposedly focused on their romance.
I hope you do an Uncivil Synopsis on Bayonetta Origins. It’s a prequel but it’s got stuff related to B3 in it, so your response could be interesting.
Bro I waited on you so long...great to see you again after a needed rest presumably..
Welcome back!! The day has already gotten better!
i had tears in my eyes watching this, i'm so happy you uploaded this😂
Your videos are always great. Can’t wait to see a Tears of the Kingdom video when/if made.
I probably will at some point, but I'm not sure if I want to wait any potential DLC to come out first.
@@HyperCharge cool, understood, your videos are always a pleasure watching and relatable too, with the critique, opinions, experiences you share. 👍

Woah! Watching this video was an experience! I never cared much for Bayonetta, but you really hooked me for the entire video! You never fail to entertain, Sam!
Baby wake up!
Hypercharge uploaded!!!
Amazing as always, thanks for the drop!
Come to a HyperCharge video, pause the video immediately, click the like button, unpause the video.
Literally thought today "when is the Bayonetta 3 synopsis is coming?" And boosh here it is!! Still love the FF7 synopsis!
Hideki actually said that Bayonetta 4 is go be more of the same. If that's the case, then one must know when it's time to move on. Bayonetta was cool, but as Singularity once said in a quote, "I think that's quite enough for me."
God I love his videos.
Your videos are so great thanks for a new one
appreciate the upload bro!
God, this story was bad, and I'm saying this as someone who's fine with Bayonetta and Jeanne dying on a conceptual level. Also to clarify, Bayo 1 and 2 are separate universes with events happening to play out identically until Jubileus being defeated.
ALSO, I think there's a chance for Viola to be cool in Bayo 4. Nero was a fucking loser in DMC4 with a lame ass moveset and in 5 he became a lot better
That ending.. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
11:47 lmfaooo hypercharge is BACK BABYYYYY
You should livestream Sam! Seriously you are probably my favorite RUclipsr and I would love to see u stream.
BANGER
As someone who bought and played Bayonetta 1 (and 2) after watching your first video on the series, I held off on buying 3. I kept hearing bad shit about it and apparently it was a good choice because what in the entire fuck was this??
Gameplay is the best in the series at least
wow, now Bayonetta is a train conductur
In the case of the Jeanne stuff, the reason she’s less powerful is shown in the first cutscene of the side chapters. The labs got something that stops her from using most of her stronger de on related attacks. Only things she’s got is bullet arts and witch time. I don’t entirely know how it works I just know it’s the reason Jeanne can’t use some of her stronger abilities
Edit: ok I’m watching this and as much as I can’t stand this games story by any means, so,e of these takes about it feel very disingenuous. The Egypt thing happened because of phantom, the powerful flame or whatever caused him to Implode leading to the black hole.
10:45 The exact reason i come to Hypercharge vids
Glad to see another upload good sir! I’m willing to be you’ll be tackling either Bayonetta Origins or Resident Evil 4 Remake next?
The return of the King! 😊🎉🎉🎉🎉.
ugh, i dispise all the weird lipstick colors
You should know that hideki kamiya is an actual manchild and a huge fan of the MCU, so he did his damn best to shove as much multiversal endgame dr strange type shit into this game as he could while understanding absolutely nothing about multiverse theory, instead deciding that each universe is now representative of a real world location?!?
I think the Bayonetta at the end is Bayonetta from Inferno, but the story makes zero sense so who cares. Thanks for this masterpiece of a video. 😂
That was great.

YESSSSSSSSSS HE’S BACK!!!!!!!!!
yeah didn't get get Bayo3 when it came out and still haven't heard it was disappointing, it doesn't seem that bad but clearly went through development hell with all these level gimmick ideas and just the absurd plot and the whole Bayo's VA drama
Kinda both worried and looking forward to if they make a 4, they could learn from this and make a clear direction for the game but probably have to asspull a lot of stuff to bring Bayo and Jeanne back to life which I'm like sure they will >.>
They could either have to absolutely commit to this ending and have a solo Viola game for Bayonetta 4, which doesn't sound all that great, or they could have Bayonetta and Jeanne immediately pop out of a demon portal in the begining of Bayonetta 4 and say they got their souls back off screen and completely undermine the entire point of Bayonetta 3.
This ending is so atrocious because they've written themselves into an hole for no reason at all and it feels like they did this intentionally so no one would have any hope whatsoever for Bayonetta/Jeanne to return in the next game. It's incredibly bizarre!
@@HyperCharge yeah it's gonna suck either way, Bayo was never about the plot anyway but here it felt too overboard with no payoff, like they wanted to try and do something over the top but it didn't work out. Viola herself just feels like they wanted their own Nero too
Man platinum games needs to be a shame for doing this on Bayonetta man😢
LETS FUCKING GOOO
dk64 music POG
I just hope viola stops looking like that...
My man❤
Uncivil synopsis IS THE HYPEST SH!%.
I love U!
A good game but a mediocre Bayonetta game.
ugh, how many times can you rip your own heart out? cheesy
Exactly
I subbed
As someone who doesn't know shit about Bayonetta aside from this video and the Smash Bros trophies, it feels like this game was going for some over the top anime/Endgame vibes, but without any actual writing to corroborate it.
To elaborate, The villian constantly and unreasonably kicking everyone's ass gave off "Look how much stronger this guy is than everyone before him!" vibes, ala a DBZ villain annihilating everyone after they've gained a power up from the previous arc.
The "every universe Bayonetta teams up" is straight out of Avengers Endgame.
The characters constantly dying is probably an attempt to evoke the strong emotions of similar situations in games like Kid Icarus Uprising and Chrono Trigger.
The "passing of the torch" ending feels like an attempt at retaining profitability while still having these insane moments in the story. It's like "OK, we made this story with all of insane, irreversible decisions and effects on the plot that should kill the series, but we want to sidestep the effects of the problem instead of attacking the cause of it."
Just an observation I had.
I don't think any of these ideas or elements are bad in theory, but the execution just didn't work for me in this context.
I mean, if the writing was super solid and Viola was a good character, then I wouldn't mind a minor dumb thing like Bayonetta kissing Luka or Jeanne dying for no reason. However, it's like a giant combination of terrible ideas all at once and they 100% committed to all of them and not one idea landed well.
For the most part, it just feels like they wanted to tell a Devil May Cry V-esque story by passing the torch to Viola, but they just didn't spend enough time building her up to justify passing the torch, so now we're just left with nothing by the end of the game.
@@HyperCharge Viola was ALL NEW for this game and this game alone? Ayo wtf?
There's a reason Mega Man Zero was so well received - Zero was a great character who had years of development. THAT'S a next generation game done right.
Tone deaf anyone?
What do you mean?
Yeah, but ... Is the game any fun?
I would say this game falls in "Dark Souls 2" territory where the game is massively disappointing, but is also technically competent. Bayonetta's combat is decently fun and while Viola is pretty mediocre overall, her inclusion encompasses a much smaller portion of the game. If you can divorce the terrible story from the combat system, you have a relatively decent action game that has a couple of glaring flaws in combat and level design.
However, it is important to note that the ending of the game is a MASSIVE bummer and may be the worse ending to a game I have ever played in my life and it's hard to just ignore that and recommend it to people.
The trilogy is complete.
His commentary perfectly portrays how shit the story is
Rangers forever Bayonetta
This game seems so bad that it's actually funny
Also take into account that the last 10 minutes of the video are the last two chapters of the game. The game starts off kind of mid, but then falls off SO HARD.
This is no joke the worst ending to a game I have ever played and experiencing it in real time is bizarre.
This is beat for beat almost exactly what happened to No More Heroes 3. Another long awaited game that's the 3rd entry to a niche action series. The first game was an all time classic, the 2nd game has the best art direction but played it too safe and was basically the same thing over again.
They both have a story focused side game and the 3rd game turned out to be controversial. The difference is when the side game that ties into the big number 3 comes out. Travis Strikes Again came out before NMH 3 and Cereza and the Lost Demon came out after Bayonetta 3.
In my opinion both games ended up being awesome I had a lot of fun while playing them. They actually try to evolve the formula of their respective series and I'd go as far, yes they're flawed but they're also awesome.
They are good games and I'm tires of having to pretend they are not.
