This was the first time I watered my large cacti since September! They go through a period of dormancy during the fall and winter. Now that we’re in spring, I will go back to watering. When do I water? I water when soil mix is COMPLETELY dry… like BONE dry and these will live outside during the spring and summer to get as much light to keep them happy. For my cacti indoors, they get the brightest window in the house (south facing window) or they get bright light from a grow light. How do you water your cactus?

Though, just because they do contain water, I would not recoment drinking cactus juice. It usually also contains all sorts of toxins, which do not make it suitable for human consumption. (Just making sure)
It was probably a little wrinkly from dehydration. Succulents and cacti are like biological water balloons, they contain so much water that they expand or shrink depending on how much water they currently have.
Cells use a lot of water, especially plant cells (not 100% sure about cacti) because they have this special part that helps the cells/plant keep its shape. It's also why plants start hanging when they need more water. Again not sure if cacti have them too, but I think that they might
Do gotta be careful with that though, I learnt that plants can actually get sunburnt if their leaves have too much water on them - because water magnifies the sun. Don't quote me on it though 🤣✌️

No waste! Of course make sure your other plants actually need water and fertilizer but I usually have at least 3-10 plants that need water and food on any given day. You do want to be very careful with certain varieties when watering this way, if the water sits directly in between grooves, foliage, etc. It can very easily rot since the water will just sit there, and watering when the sun's out doing it this way can also burn them. As someone who works with cacti on the daily this is so true, we water it just like that, at least once a week on summers and every other week on winters but that is because of the conditions of where I live ❤ 🌵
My mother bought a small cactus when she was 14. In her lifetime it only flowered twice- turned out it was a night flowering cactus from the Mohave desert- we live in England! She used to keep it inside during the winter, but in the summer it went out on her doorstep where it was in blazing sun one minute, torrential rain the next. It thrived! When she died aged 90 that cactus was 76 years old. I tried my best to look after it, but I obviously didn't do it right, and bits of it gradually died off. I managed to keep it going about 10 years, but the main plant is gone now. I feel terribly guilty, but I do have one small offshoot, which is still growing. And I now have around 15 small cacti as a penance for allowing mum's cactus to expire. 😅
Unfortunately lost my cactus of 9 years when my mom overwatered it while taking care of the place while I was on vacation. She didn't mean to, she genuinely thought she was doing the right thing. But your videos are making me want to buy another prickly pal 💚
I work in a Cactus and Suculents plant nursery. And although this plants will be thankful for a little more water then expected, with the right type of drenage off course, what's not adviced is water them in plain sun specially directly to the body of the plant. When you water them in direct sun, specialty in summer, there's a good chance you'll get burn marks of even roten the plant. And if they're in a pot, the water in the root area will be hot and the pot will become a soup. So avoid that. Everything said, this plants are warriors and will surprise you. I apologize for any grammar mistakes, English is my second language. Have a beautiful Sunday 🌵🌞 And they look beautiful and healthy
I left my cactus plant outside on my balcony, I live in a tropical environment so it rains pretty often but I put it under some cover, figured it would be the best way to keep it somewhat wet since I don’t pay much attention to the plants out there (my balcony is a whole ecosystem and I’ve never watered it in my life). It grew to twice the size I first got it at (literally just a small decorative cactus in a pot at a store sale) and overrun my balcony even further with probably hundreds of succulents.
I originally became interested in cacti a few years ago, as I'm always trying to help the 'Underdog', since very few people enjoy these unique plants. Thank you for sharing this with all of us!
It's amazing seeing how much water it was sucking up from the bottom watering. I'm currently trying to figure out growing dragonfruit catus. Got an older 1 I've planted in the ground (I live in sand) and a baby I'm keeping in a pot. I tend to use a spay bottle and give the baby a few spritzs every 2 or 3 days.
I usually smash up ice cubes into small chunks and add some to slowly melt in to give it a better chance to absorb a few times throughout the week or if it’s not so hot like once every week or two and my baby been growing new nodes out the ass I love watching her move them to follow the sun
My cacti even here in wv literally ALLLL love being nice and super watered! Thirstier buggers than any one thinks, for sure! Even in non-hot, non-humid, non-dry areas. It’s pretty wild but, it’s more about not letting them SIT and soggy, otherwise- they absolutely LOVE a good, big ole, full, long, thorough watering every now and then. Not overwatering, not sitting stagnant in water. Just deep, thoroughly watered- is key. You kinda just learn your plants needs over time too, for your own specific home and area, also. All ya gotta do is pay attention and listen to what they show/tell you their needs are 😊 I sit and spend time talking to mine, idc who thinks I’m crazy or not 😂 it also helps me to spot pests way more and better, as well ❤
Bottom watering is much better, the soil becomes impervious to water after being dry for extended periods and watering from the top causes the water to run through without absorbing effectively into the soil, much like a flash flood after a dry period just runs over the surface. Bottom watering gives the soil the time required to absorb the water properly, completely dunking the pot is even better, just be sure to never leave it for more than a few hours or you risk drowning them.

As someone who works with cacti on the daily this is so true, we water it just like that, at least once a week on summers and every other week on winters but that is because of the conditions of where I live ❤ 🌵
Watching that cactus soak up the water in the bowl..... So satisfying ❤
I like clear instructions.👍
I do a little of both, spray water on top so that I'm sure the top of the soil gets wet and then let it sit in water to finish it off.
I’ve owned cacti for years. ❤️cactus
Your backyard view is so pretty 😭💕
Thank you so much 😊
My mother bought a small cactus when she was 14. 😅
Love your Zz in the background!
Ive also found bottom feeding them makes them less prone to rust and other fugus
Need the adult swim logo popping up behind you as you run across the screen and it would be the cherry on top of this video
I read somewhere that cactus absorb water through their body that's why it is beneficial to water it's body too.
Thank you! This reminded me that I need to water my cactus/succulent.
Omg I used to watch you on Pinterest in like 2022 and you where my fav 💗💗🌿🌵
I originally became interested in cacti a few years ago, as I'm always trying to help the 'Underdog', since very few people enjoy these unique plants. Thank you for sharing this with all of us!
Bro that was cool seeing the cacti inflate after drinking!!
I come across this video every once and a while and it never fails to make me laugh
Yup! Replicating the natural desert conditions! I've done this for years and my cactus just won't stop growing.
I usually smash up ice cubes into small chunks and add some to slowly melt in to give it a better chance to absorb a few times throughout the week or if it’s not so hot like once every week or two and my baby been growing new nodes out the ass I love watching her move them to follow the sun
The sign roasted us all💀💀💀💀
I find myself saying this WHENEVER I spray anything with water 😂😂 thanks so much for the new lingo
"emotional support plant" awwwh that's so adorable❤
Cute seeing how it absorbed all the watter.
That middle one is amazing.
All ya gotta do is pay attention and listen to what they show/tell you their needs are 😊 I sit and spend time talking to mine, idc who thinks I’m crazy or not 😂 it also helps me to spot pests way more and better, as well ❤
❤nice crocheted cactus in the back❤❤
Ty for reminding me to water my cacti for this month x.x
omg I am so happy that I found you on youtube because I follow you on pinterest😊
"drown that ho€"
Deserves an oscar for being the most truthful peice of advice ever 😂
The way he said „thank you“ is so cute
Bottom watering is much better, the soil becomes impervious to water after being dry for extended periods and watering from the top causes the water to run through without absorbing effectively into the soil, much like a flash flood after a dry period just runs over the surface. Bottom watering gives the soil the time required to absorb the water properly, completely dunking the pot is even better, just be sure to never leave it for more than a few hours or you risk drowning them.
I love bottoming (my plants) 🥰😚
