Nice video, although I think the pickups combinations labels are not 100% correct. From the website: "The Epiphone Prophecy SG ... is equipped with a pair of proprietary Fishman Fluence® pickups with three voicing options that are selected with the push/pull master volume and tone controls - high gain, modern active high-output humbucker™ with both controls pushed in, classic Patent Applied For-style humbucker when the tone control is pulled out, and shimmering, optimized single-coil tones when the volume control is pulled out." For both guitars, there are 3 voices: voice 1 - default one - modern, voice 2 - the PAF and voice 3 the single-coil tone. The Les Paul one is much more flexible around the voices selection as it has 4 push/pull which means you can enable these voices individually per pickup. For SG, as there are 2 only push/pull, when you activate voice 2 for example, it applies that for both pickups. That means, in the middle position you can't have Neck split (voice 3) and bridge at default one (voice 1). If you pull one of the knobs, the respective voice will be applied to both. On the other hand, with Les Paul edition, you can achieve 9 combinations in the middle position (3 voices for neck x 3 voices for bridge). If you combine that with the standard 6 voices (neck only x 3, bridge only x 3) you get 15 tones overall.. good luck to the one who will try to demonstrate that :)
Got a SG now and I‘m pretty disappointed about the quality. Had to set the nut 1 mm to the side. 13th fret is to high. This should not be at a guitar in this price range! 😡
I tried the sg model at guitar center. It sounded really great... but was the most unbalanced guitar I've ever played. It was oddly so neck heavy that when it's on your lap it falls down forward hard. Deal breaker for me. Can't believe a company as big as epiphone can't make a balanced guitar at this price point...kind of rediculous. Maybe better luck with the single cut. Again the guitar did sound quite good.
Every SG, also the orignal Gibson, has this problem, it is due to design. The avantages of the design are that the guitar is very light and that you have much better access to the higher positions then any other design. Putting some extra weight in the space where the tone and vomume pots are can help somewhat, but it makes the guitar heavier of course. Once getting used to the neck dive it is not a problem anymore.
@@Andreorsel I played a couple of Gibson sg guitars too... and you are right they have this problem too but not nearly as much as the epiphone one I played. The epi neck was like a lead weight. SG may have a good sound but it was very bad engineering on gibson's part from the beginning. There are plenty of other guitars with light bodies that don't have this issue... PRS ce, prs core 24 for instance. The sg neck bend is shit also... but they couldn't appease the idiotic Gibson purists if they tried to fix this. It's like putting a maple neck versus mahaghony on a guitar or giving it weight relief... purists go nuts. But again the SG sounds pretty good for a 2x4 with strings. The sg prophecy sg actually felt and looked more solid to me than most sgs I've played before. Maybe I'll give it another try. Thanks for commenting...
@@thadlogan51 , that Epi SG prophecy attracks me also; very versatile with those Fishman pickups. Ofcourse there are leightweight guitars which do not have that problem, but non of those have such a easy acces on the higher frets. The neck bend is of course a disadvantage, but once you know how te deal with that it is not such a problem anymore, Angus Young rocked the hell out of SG while running all over the stage. You can also take advantage of this for getting some nice neck bend- vibrato. The SG certainly is not for everyone, but once you know how to deal with some of it’s design issues it is just a great and very smooth playing guitar.
@@Andreorsel good points... maybe just takes getting used to. I almost bought an sg Gibson standard a couple of days ago but ended up being out of killer deal... I think I need to really spend more time with them before forking over the big bucks...or maybe try the prophecy again... but you can get a used Gibson sg standard for only a couple hundred more.
@@thadlogan51 , yes the prophecy is more expensive, and indeed for the same amount you will probably find a used Gibson. But, the tonal options you get with those fishman pickups combined with coil split function are of course in no comparison with the Gibson. And the Epi also has groover locking tuners. But the Gibson will keep it’s value.

That was awesome, man! Great job defining the tones.
this guy really played the song from School of Rock lmao
😂😂😂😂 followed by the classic stage dive
Nice Test!
Does this guitar work with the Boss Katana Air transmitter? Thanks!
Sg para mí!!! 🤩🎸❤
Love my LP Prophecy... and mine is the older one with the Dirty Fingers pups.
Dang it seems those pups are about 450 dollars so good steal.
I had that too, but the pickups were so hot i couldnt get a decent crunch tone, it would alway distort with minimum gain
I need them to make a the les paul with the SG's colorway
I think the SG is way more versatile. It can grab the skinny tele tones better than the Les Paul, yet it rocks just as hard with distortion.
Daaaaamn that SG is beautiful. I'm really split between it and the olive tiger Les Paul
same
that les paul is beautiful.

I've got the Olive Les Paul. Can't find a thing wrong with it!
@@stevenswanson6676 Lucky you! Have fun! 🤘🏻
Your Amp settings make the guitar sound nice, but honestly, there's hardly any tone difference between guitars or pickup selections.
The SG is a bit quackier 🦆 :-)

I love the SG.
sg for me

Excellent video
Clean tone's modern and vintage modes Les Paul is smoother
They sounds pretty much the same
Phropecy the best👍
School Of Rock Solo! Nice!
Then again, he is playing into a Bogner!
parano dude alone with his mask!
quite the same
Most of this video has been dull and boring, these guitars are made to be used through Metal
