X570 A-pro and having the same thing , no issue with it almost for 3 years or more , dunno when it started tho should be around 1 year ago but never got more nor caused any issue or stability issue , dont think its something to worry about , never tried to clean it either
I had the same problem in my msi 970 gaming mobo . FIRST OF ALL I REMOVED THE CMOS Then I carefully removed the vrm heatsink where their stock thermal pad was leaking some oil like thing I immediately took it off and cleaned the entire area with iso propyl alcohol till that oil thingy vanished for 2 to 3 times . I ordered arctic thermal pads for same thickness and applied on the vrm chip with exact shape then screwed the heatsink again. everything is normal no oil residues till now for 4years . MSI AND OTHER BRANDS IS REALLY USING CHEAP THERMAL PADS . SO GUYS IF U SEE THAT OILY THING... IMMEDIATELY TRY TO CLEAN IT OTHERWISE THAT WILL RUIN YOUR MOBO TO COMPLETE DEAD.
Do not do a cmos reset while CPU installed unless you remove cmos battery after the update and before final boot. These boards have a cmos reset bug. Can cause run away thermals with 3900x.
I've seen this on the 970 gaming most But I've seen this on the B350 MAG tomahawk too... Msi should really step up their game since all these samples I had died...
I'm getting it too... I have cleaned the surrounding area to the VRMs with isopropyl alcohol as well. Had to clean it at the front of the board and back. What had me concerned was when I noticed whatever this leaking residue is reaching the CPU power inputs where you plug in the 2 power cables into the board. Whatever this leaking residue is surrounding the VRMs, it's certainly not effecting the motherboard it seems. I'm at the point of not even cleaning the surrounding area to the VRMs anymore, especially cleaning it twice now. Clearly it will keep showing up no matter what we do. My board is: MEG Z390 ACE
This is very typical MSI board they use cheap thermal VRM pads... :I (most cases harmless but if very worried and the VRM is overheating I would suggest removing the heatsink and replace the pads with something more quality?)
I have a an x570 Gaming Plus, same appearance of substance but on the top, not the bottom, right on the VRM heat sink and part of the board it touches. However, I only discovered this because my machine stopped booting. I have been diagnosing all day and all of my other parts are working individually when put into a different system. I have no idea if the substance and my problems are related, but I’ve had to document everything in case I need to RMA.
It is not just MSI. Same problem with Aorus-Z270X-GamingK7 + i7-7700K, both have died. I changed my PSU thinking that was the reason for my problem and now I have an Aorus-X470-UltraGaming + R5 2600 and oil has started to appear again. My chassis is an NZXT H500i with one 120mm rear fan, one 140mm top fan and two 140mm front fans. There is not much information about this on the internet or the one that appears says that it is not a problem. But I've never had a motherboard that did this before.
1. Known issue: Remove battery. Reset firmware. Re config bios. Save bios config. Reinstall battery. Restore config. I have seen huge drops in cpu temps from this. 2. Spray with electrical contact cleaner. Let dry for 24 hours before reinstall. 3. When doing a cmos reset or updating firmware repeat step 1.
Msi motherboard are not good nowadays, few years ago they make really good motherboard but now a days is not.my x570 also rapired. I personally recommend don't buy msi motherboard 😢
I was having the same problem, but this is not as harmless as thought.. it caused a 70% cpu nerf(i7 8700k) a condensator blew, so now every single usb port on the back+ wifi is completely dead, it was a MSI z390m gaming adge ac, if you remove the heatcover for the chips there looked like someone had pissed on the motherboard, it was so soaked!

Old tread, but i think is the oil, from the thermalpads from the heatsinks on the other side.
Its due to heating up bud, apparently nothing to worry about.
Hey Rikki! - I’ve just specced a new pc with this board. Good to know it’s normal! Rossco
Hey man, I have the same issue and it makes me less worried that it doesn't cause any harm. Lately I've been quite worried.

I got B450 Aorus elite v2 and find spot like a liquid leak under one of cpu VRM and glad i wached this video.

happening on my asus x670e wifi tuf motherboard
I'm lucky that when my B450 Tomahawk failed, it didn't take out my Ryzen 7 3700X and Radeon RX 6600 XT!
Do you think I should return it?
I clean it with IPA 70% but it didn't get off 100%
Do I need a 100% IPA ?

YES I DID FOR MY 970 MOBO AND SOLVED
Got this on Meg Ace and now the board burnt on top
I got the same thing in the back side of my Asus b450-F gaming II motherboard. It looks like its coming from the large heat sink over the I/O

Thank you so much, I am building my pc right now and I noticed this strange liquid. The motherboard is brand new.
CLEAN IT WITH IPA AND USE HIGH QUALITY THERMAL PAD

Same issue, same chassi...
I wonder if the small solder dust type stuff is actually tin or metal whiskers forming?
This is very interesting and it’s something I heard off but forgot about many moons ago. I think you could be right on this for sure.
I got this issue out of the box, should i return it.??
It’s had no affect on my use so I would just wipe down and continue.
So this is where Mads Nielson came?! 😆 jk great video man! Kudos

A source reference to this "known issue" would have been awesome! I literally just purchased one of these boards this morning...
5G. It has to be something to do with 5G. :-)
100% This

Hmm that’s concerning.
That's crazy, I may make an update on this,
It's got coronavirus.
