Lovely card design, Jenny as well as a great idea.
Here's a tip to make the die cutting easier.
Instead of putting the strips of paper on cardstock just use printer paper then the die will usually cut through both the strips and printer paper easily.

I love the idea of using the border from die cutting on the inside of the card!
