Thank you for sharing! I am planning to enroll on a Publishing MA in London in a year or so. The Creative Writing program Oxford offers soudned very appealing as someone who dreams of becoming a writer. Yet, I doubt I'm creative enough. Long story short, your video inspired me to be more consistent and confident in my writing. I want to live the writer experience even if I apply for a Publishing degree. Thanks again!

Good information. One video editing tip is to keep the text on the screen for as long as it takes to slowly read it twice. There were times when it disappeared before I was able to fully read it.

Thank you! That’s a great suggestion and I’ll definitely do that from now on

The "connect with authors and readers through online engagement" being more and more mandatory is what is putting me off even trying. As a neurodivergant, I find regular interactions to be exhausting and difficult. Having to keep up and maintain a potential reader base for a prolonged period of time is as obscure of a concept for me as it's a sure way to burnout.

Yeah, I definitely understand that. Unfortunately, developing an audience is a necessary part of indie publishing these days, but that can be as simple as offering a free “reader magnet” for people who join your mailing list and then connecting with them through a monthly newsletter.

I wonder how many authors have degrees in creative writing.

These days my guess would be not all that many. Academic creative writing programs can be amazing, but they can also be very hit and miss and it’s a lot of time and money invested in something you can learn and practice on your own.

@@justinfikestorycastle Don't listen to the naysayers, Justin. Tq for sharing! I did a masters at Cambridge and therefore can understand the many intangibles and insider knowledge that can add authenticity to one's writing. You now know the smell of old books in ancient libraries; the echoes of footsteps in cloisters; the cult-like traditions, vocabulary and quaint activities (Balls, garden parties, punting, formals, sub fusc, matriculation). Lest we forget, RF Kuang leaned hard into her Oxbridge experience for Babel and Katabasis!

Oh sure! They are some lofi tracks that I downloaded from a music licensing service so unfortunately I can't share them. But if you search "lofi" on spotify or youtube you'll fine more music in a similar style. Enjoy!
