Must have a cat supervisor! Most important! I am a librarian and archivist, so my love of paper is massive and I get paid to play around all types! Thank you for sharing!
Oh what a wonderful job you have Heather !! I can imagine that , you have to be a paper lover for such a job. I plan to go to the National Archives in my next Paris trip, these places and what they hide are so intriguing. Cats are the best paper supervisors, in a paper kingdom, a cat is a necessity!
@@Merveillesenpapier One more thing, I just ordered 6 old books, I love the feel, texture, even the smell (as long as it's nothing weird or crazy!) I love to find someone's bookmark or note or handwriting. We have a lot of donations at the library that we won't take but I always grab the older one's, that no one wants to love. Just picked up a book in German on flowers. And I live in Texas, USA, so I imagine it travelled far!
Oh no, you don't want a weird smell for an old book ... :)), I love the variety of antique books smells, depending where they have lived before, oh yes! beautiful find! If books and letters could talk ans say who held them where they lived , what they have seen, that would be so interesting to hear....
Aww, look at Clochette... she is such a sweetheart. She's over-seeing your creativity. Beautiful Laetitia. I too love paper, books, newspapers, the very smell, touch, and even sound is magical.
I love this video! Yes…paper…it can be anything you want it to be. Conveys lightness, fragility, and strength at the same time. I, too, miss earlier days or years when people appreciated things like paper, handling and reading books, writing on lovely card stock, receiving lovely cards and letters. I am 67 and my life has been more paper-oriented than electronics-oriented, thank goodness. But I feel electronics will eventually win out…people just seem to be enthralled with their devices. Which makes working with paper an even more immediate and special experience. I love your cat supervisor! I have a St. Bernard supervisor…well, maybe more of a watcher….well, maybe more of a napper….:))). I love your art and your artistic sensibility of life. Thank you for sharing.:))
Thank you John, maybe it's the path we are following, but I don't think an all electronic digital world will eventually win the long game, it's my hope at least.... Though we are in a scary transition right now, and less and less young people enjoy even handwriting , I' ve heard some pretty scary things recently about young adults working on computer all day long , couldn't fill a paper form by hand they had to fill and print it on a keyboard and a printer ...it was a too tedious task for them to write with a pen....I know it's hard to meet people who are are not glued to their phones these days.... What ??????? A saint Bernard!!!!!!!I had one when I was a child, they are the best dogs in the entire world, you are very lucky to have such a sweet supervisor/napper . Thank you for your message, let's continue to enjoy our paper habits, and our paper world!
I have loved paper since I was a young girl! I had a shoe box filled with pretty papers...cards, brochures, whatever I found appealing. I was just telling my cousin that I need to get up in my attic and retrieve the paper treasures I had saved. 💖 P.S. I 💗 your adorable cat!
I can't agree more, in the book we feel everything, the smell, the touch, leaving a note. I recently saw a video by Rajiv Surendra, about calligraphy, in which he showed a copy of a letter written by Beatrix Potter to a friend, he wonders if a century from now, anyone will be able to read a mail we wrote today? Fortunately there are still young people with your sensitivity. A hug and keep going.
That's interesting and sad too, but I believe there will always be a minority of truly passionnate people who wil keep these treasures and habits alive . Thank you!
@@pennybergmen8933 Seriously????I didn't imagine it was already that bad for younger generations....100% agree ith you Penny, there is so much informations one can see from the person who wrote, all you mention which tells so much more than the sentence itself , the letter itself , it's tottaly true , it's the joy of discovering and reading them, even past letters wriiten centuries ago, there is something "alive" in these pieces of paper...
I loved this video essay on the joys of paper. I also love old books, letters, and paper, but for me it is a troubled love affair. I can no longer pass by the environmental impact of modern industrial paper manufacturing. Those very old books are so wonderful and so long-lived because their paper was made the old way, without acids and with little or no wood pulp. That's why they live for centuries and feel and look so beautiful. I am starting to phase wood-based paper out of my art and personal life, just as I am phasing out acrylic paints. I'm replacing acrylics with watercolor and pastels, and I am gradually finding tree-free alternatives for all kinds of papers, for writing, typing, drawing, painting, sculpting, and bookbinding. I love to work with mulberry and rice paper. I write and print on paper made from bagasse, which is recycled sugar cane plant fibers - very pleasant to write on. I have found a recycled cotton watercolor paper, which is luxurious to touch. I adore it. Paper can be made from so many wonderful materials. It is one of my favorite things. Also, Clochette is just too much. Such a beautiful lady.
Thank you Jen for sharing your knowlegde and experience, you are totally right ! Paper industry should go back to a more sustainable way to make it, your appoach to paper and creating supplies is very interesting, agree with you on paint, too I want to explore other paint and colors paths too, Clochette thanks you too!
Chlochettes sleeping position 🐱😁. Yes I too love paper. I have been accused of having too much lying around. But you make paper so interesting a true paper Magician. I love to receive hand written letters but as you say that doesn't happen anymore. I love calligraphy I wish I were better at it. I love all the old curls of the letters. Such a nice flow. I don't particularly like the smell of old paper but I like the look. I love torn edges. So currently I am studying visual arts and we have some lovely water colour paper. And now I am learning print making which I like more than I thought. Cutting out the lino is very therapeutic. Regards Liana
Thank you Liana for sharing your interest in paper too, It's not possible to have too much paper lying around, ...;) strange people to say such a thing ! Yes Clochette as a good cat always sleeps in the most funny positions.

Hello, once again a glorious video of eye candy and truth to consume. Awh,"PaPeR"! Yes you certainly have been found by paper, therefore it making you a 'master paper artist'!! Thank you for showing all the art processes, they are all such a joy to behold. That sketchbook paper is awesome, with the tooth for capturing the media, the soft subtle aged color look of the pages, and that deckled edge😻 is to die for. I love your handwriting and so glad you are keeping letter writing with wax stamping alive. I too tuck away little treasures, scribbling, flowers etc in old books, ahhhh. I'm a paper artist as well. I use more kinds than you do, watercolor, yupo, mixed media, card stock, etc...etc. I love it! To see how different papers and mediums come together so well, it is magical! I must say though. I see the video a little late, but it is lovely. Clochette is such a sweet cat, my cats are "helping"me when I make something. About 2 months ago I found my fountainpen (vulpen in Dutch) again. It is an old pen 70 or 75 years old., It was my mothers pen and she give it to me when I was in the 2e class. I was 7 and that is 57 years ago. After about 40 years it was not good anymore. 40 years ago it was difficult to find somebody who could repair the pen, now it is more difficult. But I found somebody and I write every day a little story. I love internet because you can see a lot of interesting things, but I love books and paper a lot more.Have a nice autum.

Does the wax seal arrive intact? Doesn't it get stuck in the postal machines?
Sure I receive letters quite often sealed with wax, they arrive totally fine.
