I know about the duchess from reading about Balzac. Quite a fascinating fabulous woman. What fun seeing the recipe books. I remember when I bought Dining with Proust years ago--I was in heaven. The connection books and food is really special to see in print. I use pan pastels a lot over water color and even on fabric. I totally understand why you like them. You are getting some amazing effects. Your backgrounds are totally dreamlike! That was a very stimulating video. Those books, your sketchbook, all of it!

Thank you ! "Dining with Proust" that sounds like an excellent recipes books:) You are one of the very first I talk to who knows la Duchesse, and you are on the other side of the osean it's funny! Happy to discover that, but I imagine Balzac readers are probably a bit familiar with her. There is a new kingdom to discover playing with pastels and combining them with other techniques, very excited about that. Fun that you play with them in many different ways, thank you for stopping by Helen :)

I love your aesthetic. It has inspired me to elect French practices. Plus, I took one of your courses too, just finished last week and now I have even more inspiration and ideas. When I was in France, I didn't get to see inside anyone's dwelling, so I was curious about how they live inside. Thank you for sharing your interior life on YT. I've cued about 15 videos in a row to watch. I'm waiting for a project to dry before continuing.

Thank you Melissa, , so you have already visited France Nice !, Sad you couldn't do that, it always gives a better idea of how people really live to see and meet them in their homes, and to know the country better, so I hope I give you a bit of that in my videos, thank you for your sweet message :)

Oh Laetitia, such eye candy on every inch of your video!!!
Your portrait gallery wall is so lovely, and also featured Charolette Bronte', awh.
Love how the characters face each other in conversation.
WOW!!! on your books. That poet dictionary was my fave. I could certainly yse that often. Thanks for sharing your fave book store. I'll repeat, the U.S. does not have shops like that, not where I live at any rate.
I too work with pastels and agree that the better ones have a creamy moistness to them. High quality ones I have bought are French ones-perfection.
Thank you for posting the link to those sketchbooks. I have 3 smaller journal ones with lined pages and clasps, but most certainly want to purchase the larger sketchbook. Your sketches are so lovely, thanks for sharing.
    Missed seeing the kittie.

Thank you Roksanna for your message, glad you liked the old dictionnary, , this shop is for sure a real magical antique book shop, these days those are going to be rarer and rarer to find even in France . You said it well there is a sort of creamy aspect to these pastels, very different from my cheap old pastels aI used to play with, it's going to be a good change. Yes this format is really ideal to draw , smaller fomats for me are too restrictive and limiting , thank you, Clochette sends you a cat hug, she can't be there all the time :)

I'm so excited to order that beautiful sketchbook, so thank you again for sharing. I totally understand Clochete not being in every video. This video was for your May fave finds, you already found Clochete...😻 meow! Please share again you faves now that everything is opening up.

I love your sketch books. Your sketches are just wonderful.. I wonder if I will ever see one like that in America. Books that you find are so precious 💕. I would love to find in française. Love them all. I am so impressed how fluent in English you are. This is a great video. I read once that Napoleon wasn't really French. Do you know?

    • @Merveillesenpapier

Thank you Corée! oh yes these books are little treasures , online I can promise, you could find them with advanced research on abebooks you could find anything . You are very kind, thank you I still do a lot of mistakes , but try to improve :) Yes Napoléon was Corsican when he was born, in 1769, Corsica was owned by France but it's true few years earlier it was italian, and he had italian ancestors from Tuscanian nobility in the 15th century and only learned proper french at 7 years old.

lovely as usual! Love the antique books, and like to imagine who bought them, and what were they wearing, and where did the book live in their house? I can't have a favorite old book, they are all wonderful! Love your talking wall! Do you hear them whispering at night? :) Only artists think like that! Truly imaginative! Happy that you can now go out and enjoy your sweet town and all the fun places, finally! Thanks for taking us along, too! I can hardly wait to see your finished bathroom! And maybe someday, your kitchen! Happy Spring!

Thank you Penny, yes it's so intriguing to imagine what hands have touched these books , if they were read loved and cherished . I'm sure they have great conversations at night, who knows what happens....Clochette could tell
more about their conversations as she sleeps with them... Yes it's good that shops are reopening and terraces in restaurants too , . oh yes I hope to share those rooms and the kitchen soon, thank you Penny, a creative week to you !

My pictures of Maximilian Robespierre look angry because they are facing pictures of The Scarlet Pimpernel, French gendarmes, and the royal Swiss guards. I arranged them this way because I wish they could have saved King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette.

You are the very first person I hear who has Maximilien de Robespierre in hour home!!e was an interesting character that said, he lost his mind at the end , but he had good intentions at the beginning , that's a very smart way to hang your portraits! :)
