48:30 Gurren Lagann was actually the directorial debut of Hiroyuki Imaishi, who also directed Kill la Kill at Studio Trigger, among other things like Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Promare, Panty & Stocking, and directed an ep of FLCL. Dude's a legend with a very distinct style. He's on all kinds of Gainax and Trigger works
Errr, that would be Dead Leaves actually. Great, little-known flick that has some of the best dynamic framing in any anime.

His dad didn't abandon him. He invited Kamina, but Kamina hesitated and stepped back. Kamina regretted it, and he vowed never to step back from anything again. That explains his headstrong demeanor.
Oh I never put together that THAT'S why he never backs down!
no offense but his dad did technically abandon him lol, but at least it worked out! Kamina became an inspiration
Even better is that, the one time he stepped back in his life, it saved his life.
Which is why he always talks about how Simone is the only reason he's alive. Because Simone will step back when its rational.
"His dick is the drill." It sums up the series very well, lol!
My only gripe with the Dub is when they call Simon "Sea-mon," though in Japanese it's "She-moan" so there's really no winning. His name is Simon, both languages are able to pronounce it perfectly fine!

TTGL is such a masterpiece in terms of animation, character development, action epicness and at the same time make you think about dense themes like life, personal growth, freedom and etc. Thank you so much for this series of recations!
This show has one of the best dubs of all time, even some crazy badass english music to go with it, hope you guys love the show, it's so amazing

In Japanese gun is mispronounced as "gan" so while the robot name can be localized as "Gunmen" it's actually said "Ganmen" in Japanese and it is a pun because Ganmen ( 顔面 ) also means face or visage in Japanese.

Such a throw back. I remember this one started out solid and did grow on me a lot towards the back half. Its pretty fuzzy now but the Gainax style still looks great.
this was such a good anime if i could reccomend something a bit older it had 2 movies and was a fav of mine as a teen "vampire hunter D" but if you prefer anime theres a long list of anime thats as great as this

Gurren Lagan start fun and slow but then its gets bigger and bigger and BIGGER, the second halve of the series is top tier stuff to be considered one of the best anime ever made XD... is a theme already made in Gunbuster but for in a tv series, and Gainax almost pulled a perfect anime with this one. Enjoy the ride, is will be drilling XD
i know you commented on it at the start but this is honestly one of the first anime to come out where the dub has enough of its own merits to recommend trying it out
gurren lagann is like the soul successor of evangelion my favourite anime of all time, definitely stick it all the way through!

So the thing about the opening segment is originally they kinda had a different plan on how the story was gonna go but as they worked on the series that changed so that first scene kinda has NOTHING to do with what happens through the series.

Gurren lagann is the opposite of Evangelion. Where eva has themes of hopelessness and isolation, gurren lagann is about unwavering hope and banning together

This anime is just pure hype and I love it lol and Code Geaus is also a very good mech anime but its like Death note amazing if you ain't sen it definately watch it. You guys have a good dynamic love the channel so far

Studio Trigger pre-Trigger, this was the beginning of some of the most wildest, stylized animated series throughout Japan.
Except When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace. That one was kinda shit. Typical light novel adaptation.

I dont understand why you guys are so surprised about sexual reference in this anime (expeccially since is a Gainax one), anime today are waaaay worst.
unless in the US you get only the censored/cut versions. And i wouldnt be surprised about that.

Dub and Sub are both Valid, no reason to shit on their choice. :)
@@Hagosha yeah i know.....i dont mean to, im just annoyed that most reactors are to the sub* and half of those reactors only watch it that way because the army of sub only commenters make them feel like they have to in order to get more views and likes and less mean comments
i do 100% believe however that the dubs sentence structure and wording is way better suited for native english speakers, and the only way i recommend watching anime in sub is when the dub is REALLY bad with the voice actors
but most of the time, i find the english voices to be either better, on par, or a little worse the japanese, but never worse enough to justify reading a poorly worded sentence and less impactful speeches that i ALWAYS seem to get in the subs
if they just fire whoever tf keeps ruining the subs subtitles, and hire the people that make the scripts for the dub to do the subs subtitles, then i would have zero issue tbh
but whoever translates the sub into english subtitles, to me, feels like they are using barebones english or google translate...or better yet, they sound like how an AI sounds when it speaks....WAY too proper and not realistic enough for me whatsoever
but what i found is, people that swear by the sub usually care mainly about voices, and the people that swear by the dub usually dont mind either voice, but cant stand the way the sub is worded when they read the subtitles

@@darkgenesis342 well i have, plenty of people agree with me that the actual words spoken can sometimes be the most important thing, and that's something the sub and sub do differently all the time
as long as the sub or the dub voice actors aren't THAT bad compared to the other, the words spoken can be a make or break for good dialog....like a line from another anime...someone is giving a speech, and they exclaim, "No, they weren't!" in the sub, but in the dub they say "They were not!"....now this is just a 3 word sentence, but the impact and delivery of the line are 1000% different when reading them both in english
and no matter how good the subs voice actors are, in the end, every single one of us that doesnt speak fluent japanese is understanding the anime based off of the english subtitles
what point of this is a "hot take" to you....i mean, you could try muting the sub and see for yourself how bad the subtitles can be in the sub versions of anime when reading as an english speaker....or you can trying watching an anime in japanese sub with the subtitles off like they do it in japan....a brand NEW anime you havent seen before...just to show the importance of good english dialog in a japanese sub of an anime
Evangelion is an overrated pile of shit next to this show.
