    It’s my understanding that dropping actual iron provides little to no benefit due to how it reacts with environment. It oxidizes & leaches away before a plant can ever use it. It’s the whole point of chelated iron: molecules to hold the iron long enough for a plant to actually use it. People claiming old nails and such work are usually giving anecdotal, unverifiable statements

      there are always compounds and organisms to covert and release iron into different forms there are 4 iron oxides,4 iron sulfates and other forms of iron.

      It will take 100 years for it to work add vinegar and hydrogen peroxide to dissolve the iron then use it on your plants or just use iron sulfate or chelate

      I put the ash from charcoal around my fruit trees. After having a cook out I get to cleaning the grill maybe days later, didn't know what to do with all the ashes. My dad told me to add it to the soil around the garden and trees, that potash was good for the soil. I did an had more fruit than ever. Of course mine are planted out in the open yard

    3 months ago I saw a video where a man said something about iron nails in to the ground very close to the roots of the tree and I tried with my soursop tree in container, I was surprised when one month after I saw a lot of flowers as never before. Next, I'm going to wait when I'll have actual fruits and if its working then I'm going to nail all my trees. 😘👌

    plant cannot use iron like that, rust (iron oxide )is not soluble therefore the plant can not use it,,,, you can use citric acid to make iron water soluble

    • @agekjrgardpayoutube2593
      @agekjrgardpayoutube2593 4 года назад

      Toon A as they said in the video, they have been mulching their plants. When that mulch breaks down, it provides humus, which has the ability to chelate metal ions, thereby holding onto them in an available form until the plant uses them. Furthermore, both nutrient uptake by the plant and decay of organic matter tend to produce acids, which can dissolve the hydrated iron oxides and iron carbonates, forming soluble iron salts that can bind to the humus and remain there in a usable form until the plants absorb it.
      But yes, the process is certainly much faster and a lot more efficient if you add something like citric acid to your irrigation water to get it going. Personally, that is what I would do, but everyone has their own way of doing things, and as long as the plants are healthy, who cares what they do in their own garden to keep their plants healthy. At least they have healthy plants, which is what matters the most.

      That iron is not doing anything for his plants. It can't be absorbed It needs to be chelated iron for that magic to happen, so don't go litter your yard with rusted metal just yet... you'll regret it.

    Do fruit trees need more of the NPK nutrients and iron when they are fruiting? Logees Plants say to feed them every week with a 15 15 15 or lower fertilizer through the summer(I assume that means when they are fruiting) but if I was afraid I would kill the young tree if I did that and give it/them the the amount that the fertilizer bag says to give them.I have a small Muntingia Calabura/Jamaican cherry in a nursery pot and it is really starting to put on the fruit , it is having a n iron deficiency even though I fed it some iron oxide/rust in about a liter on water, I don't have any clue what the concentration was.

    You are 1000% correct. I’m living in a fantasy world and since Im retired I can enjoy this luxury. My fantasies include of course like you to share the bounty with my friends and relatives near and far which includes at my own expense mailing mangoes to them. Also included are good neighbors. And of course the local food bank. I have almost 40 Lemon Zest and almost 30 Sweet Tarts. So my fantasy includes selling these crops to the Whole Foods store 1/2 mile away. These are super WOW!!! Mangoes if you ever get the chance to taste them. If you crave a great mango all spring winter and fall LZ and ST will cause the longing to be 10X’s stronger. A mango farm in Delray charges $3+ a pound for them so I know that once they come in I can create a market for them and get some income from them every year even if I have to sit on the corner retailing them myself. Many people on the internet are trying real hard to get ahold of just one of each fruit just to try them. But once you do you are insanely hooked and crave their beyond belief flavors. So I fantasize also about the extra potential income and satisfying a demand that I feel sure will arise once anybody gets to taste one of the 2 varieties. I also fantasize that my work that I do every day to shape and trim my trees, most of which are exposed to the street is sort of like a work of art/unreal beauty. There is nothing like my creation anywhere else in Florida that I’ve ever seen. Each tree is perfectly shaped and there is always space between them. Each tree has a circle of 6 inch wide painted concrete surrounding itself and every tree is perfectly heathy and green with not a single sign of any infection or disease or unwanted pest. So in a way you are 1000% correct but I’m almost as wacky as the guy in the video but I’ve been able to cope with it and in my case it’s a very positive healthy thing in my life. I also fantasize that as a whole I’m sort of an artist because of the beauty my creation as a whole exhibits. Again, you are correct but I’m not normal.

      Hey weiss,
      We have a phrase for that. Translates exactly into "antique model".
      I still have it in me to scale a walnut tree. Mangoes are great. Egyptian mangoes even better. Peruvian specimens among the best.
      One day I'll own a farm and just work it till my death. There can be no other way.

My pomegranate apparently needs iron as its lost its leaves tbat had turned yellow. We have Qld where its tropical but its east of Australia. I love the West unfortunately so would never move to an eastern state. Im waiting on my avocado tree to grow fingers crossed it survives this harsh South Australian sun.

      Just remember that plants absorb iron in the +2 oxidation state called ferrous state, often in the form of a bond like iron-sulphate (+2). Any free iron usually oxidizes (bonds with oxygen) to the ferric +3 state also called rust. And plants can't absorb iron-oxide unless the pH is around 2 (which is when the oxygen separates from the iron).
      Some plants species can however secrete acid from the roots under chlorosis stress (lack of iron) in order to try and free up iron-oxide, but it is not very efficient.

    • @rlopez18m

      @@oscar6832 can you break this down for a beginner gardener that has zero background in chemistry....??

    • @oscar6832
      @oscar6832 3 года назад

      @@rlopez18m Yes. Iron doesn't exist in it's pure form for very long. It reacts with oxygen and quickly forms what we call rust in normal english. Iron in the form of rust is not available to plants (basically not anyways, even though some plants have the capacity of secreting acidity around the roots to convert it back to non-rustic iron). Therefore, THERE IS NO POINT IN PLACING RUSTIC JUNK in the soil, because it is to no use for plants. Just buy some iron-chelate or iron sulphate, or a fertiliser containg iron, and add a little bit when watering because adding much iron once will just become rust.

    It's funny how a certain fruit is brought to the attention to the masses and some type of chemical, phytonutrient, mineral, vitamin, etc. is said to be in said fruit and everyone starts purchasing the dried pills or capsules with this fruit in it. All of the fruits and vegetables have anti-cancer properties along with many other nutrients that science has yet to discover. All of us should just eat and consume any and every natural fruit and veggie they can get there hands on because they are all the true building blocks of what we are made of.
    Thanks for the video and thumbs up.

      Question: In AZ soil: I'm not a chemist, but there are at least three variations of sulfates as soil amendments: copper sulfate, iron sulfate, manganese sulfate. Could someone rank these as needed in AZ soils for citrus?

    • @edsida
      @edsida 6 лет назад +1

      countallwriteins i see a lot of manganese deficient citrus when im out at work (lawn care & tree care) i usually go based on what the patterns of the leaves are saying and usually its manganese. hope that helps a bit

    • @countallwriteins
      @countallwriteins 6 лет назад

      Or, is that iron deficiency?

    • @edsida
      @edsida 6 лет назад

      countallwriteins manganese is usually yellowing on the outer edges of leaves in a cloudy semitrical pattern. and its harder to see when iron and other nutrients are not available. this based on just observence of a recurring seasonal pattern i see valley wide so i am "guesstimating" that citrus here in zone 9 of AZ do not get enough manganese from our soils. so i would amend with manganese in mind if i had to plant citrus or feed it.
