    Dank je wel, Alain. 1-10 starts at 0:40, 11-20 starts at 1:25, for those like me who want repetitive practice. 3:40 for 10, 20, 30, 40 ... 100.

    European languages - when it comes to "four" and "five" - are strange. 1, 2, 3, and then 6-9 have some similarity throughout most of them, but 4 and 5.. in Latin/Romance languages, they're more similar to "quatro" and "cinco", while Dutch/Germanic languages are closer to "four" and "five". I wish I knew how quatro and four were alike, and especially cinco and five.
    Maybe if we go half-Romance and half-Germanic, four/quatro could be like "hvaghre" and actual Latin for 5 (looked it up) is quinque (queen-kway), so maybe "hvighve"?
    But anyway, anything specific?

    • @LearnDutchwithAlain
      @LearnDutchwithAlain  2 года назад +1

      How about studying linguistics? Also, Nordic languages take the German 4 & 5... The Russian four seems to resemble the Roman 4 though.

    • @watson-disambiguation
      @watson-disambiguation Год назад +1

      they actually come from an even older language called proto-indo-european, which is ancestral to most of the languages of europe and some of the languages of northern india and iran and surrounding areas. In proto indo european five was probably *pénkʷe and four was kʷetwóres. some funky sound shifts lead to latin shifitng the p to a kw and in germanic languages the kw in kʷetwóres became a p and then an f, with the sift from p to f being a regular sound change in germanic languages

    I'm taking lessons now and looking at lessons on RUclips as well, one thing I can tell you is that almost every teacher says things differently, lol.
    Tien - our teacher says to make it a long "ie", "tiiiin". This guy goes like "tien" where "ie" is finished before it's seven started.
    My teacher never makes "car starting noises" when pronouncing G or H. Dutchies to be channel sounds like she spits straight from her throat every time she speaks.
    I mean, is there even one agreed upon standard speech?

    • @LearnDutchwithAlain
      @LearnDutchwithAlain  Год назад

      Nope. Dutch is a language with a lot of variations and dialects. The difference between Belgian Dutch and Dutch from the Netherlands is just one of these differences. There's even a dialect having its own Wikipedia 'language': vls.wikipedia.org/wiki/West-Vlams.
