• CAT Oil Filter #396-45...
I didn't talk about fleet guard because I consider that OEM since it's made by Cummins. I run fleet guard 16035 & Donaldson DBL 7349 on my 6.7 Cummins for Hotshot Trucking. I change the oil every 8-11K depending on the oil I use and idle time.
The donaldson blue is by far the best filter. They make some of the best filters on the planet.
@@mattbailey6933 Agreed! Always my go to
I run a EAO 80 Amsoil oil filter that is 99% @ 20 micron. The design of this filter is much less restricted where the oil enters the space is larger between the end cap and the filter element at 3/8 of a inch as compared to Mopar or Cummins Fleetguard 1/16 inch clearance. Now that Donaldson Blue i would have to see what the clearance is on that so far the Amsoil seems to have the best flow characteristics.
Always used napa gold filters. Shell rotella conventional oil.310,000 on my 5.9 99 ram. Runs better than new. Crazy good mileage.
or you could use a wix filter, its the same as a napa gold
Thanks for the info.. new comer to the Cummings world
I use a donaldson on my chevy 350 , their quality is top notch compared to a lot of garbage some people use like the fram ones
Haha yeah too many people don't understand the importance of good filtration.
It’s not a hard investigation; Baldwin makes some CAT filters as well as some Donaldson filters, all made in the same assembly line in Nebraska. Just do some research.
Thanks for sharing
Been telling people... Cat Slappys that think they no ....Or just because its Yellow that Baldwin makes filters for cat. Not all filters but some for cat .
I've been to the CAT assembly line. It's in Illinois.
They all make filters for one another. I'd like to see this "CAT filter' assembly line... When a company doesn't even mgf all their own equipment, why would you think they would have a filter line??
Good video. We have been running Mopar oil filters (Wally world) cheap when you can find them. We also run a bypass with an Amsoil 2 Micron…250k hard miles
Me to :)
@DIYKAI I have three questions for you.
1 Is the engine the Cummins 5.9 or 6.7?
2 Did you notice a difference in oil pressure and any issue with diverting oil to the Amsoil bypass filter system?
3 How did you mount it?
@@Jon-O. 6.7 no oil pressure drop it mounts by the intake manifold
95 Cummins 5.9 - I've been testing my oil for 3 years. I had been using the Mopar filter, but the particulate analysis showed substandard filtering. When I switched to a Mobil 1 filter, the particulate analysis improved to a good range. I won't use a Mopar oil filter again.
Great video. Thanks for sharing this.
An "absolute" filter rating means 98.7%. Or if there were 75 particles upstream, there would still be 1 particle downstream.
A lot of these filters are made in the same factory but to specs of the company that require it to.
Something I found out, Cat and Baldwin are made in the same Nebraska plant.
I second the fleetguard stratopore fl16035! Why is that not compared?
Because that's not aftermarket it's made by cummins. I have a video on the two fleetguard options

Hey Tyler,
Love your video. I’ve run the Donaldson blue and Baldwin oil filters on my ram. The prices have gone ballistic on the Donaldson filters. I just purchased 7 Baldwin oil filters for 8.15 with free delivery through Circle C. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much!
Very informative
Ever investigate the Fleetguard filters.
I use Fleetguard filters on my 2017 6.7 and Valvoline premium full
Synthetic oil
Here is the video about fleetguard

I run the identical setup as you. I run the 16035.
If I use Schaeffer's oil I run the donaldson blue. From my testing they last longer than the fleetguard before collapsing.
I ran the blue filter thinking it’s the best but I quit. I feel they have too much restrictions I’ve cut them open at only 5,000 miles and the pleats are collapsed like crazy. Every one I’ve cut open has like ever 3-4 pleats stuck together
Yeah that's finding that fine line with micron ratings cause if they suck up too much stuff it kills them fast.
I'll be posting a video of one cut open after 6500 miles so we shall see how mine held up.
Good vid man
I use Motorcraft or Donaldson on my 7.3 Powerstroke.
@mattwitkowski6329 I found out they semi recently changed the filter on the 6.7. The new number is 2124S Much better than the previous 2051S. I had to replace the oil pressure sensor on my service truck and found out. The cost though is ridiculous they charged my employer like 35 bucks for the filter from the dealership
Just bought the cat filter for 15 bucks at local dealer which is cheaper than the Baldwin and oem filters I’ve priced
Yeah, my local dealer sells the donaldson blue for almost $40. It's litterally less than half price to buy on the internet. That fake cat filter is literally a baldwin in a yellow case. It's not a true cat oil filter.
Exactly and it’s cheaper than the Baldwin in my area so that’s why I buy the cat. Not paying 40 bucks for the Donaldson either.
The Baldwin filters better than Donaldson and has a thicker case. I buy the yellow Baldwins 😉
No by-pass valve on any of these filters?
Even the OEM Fleetguards don't have a typical bypass valve on the bottom. To be honest, I am not sure why or what they do instead.
They probably have an internal by pass on the filter mount
Is there a reason why Fleetguard is left out
Fleetguard is made by cummins. I dont consider it aftermarket.
EDIT* Just don't run that Chrysler mopar garbage and you're good haha.
Link to fleetguard comparison for you

@@TylerTheFieldServiceTech 🤣 Cummins is not Mopar and fleetguard make some of the best filters.
Also just going off looks and claimed specs don't mean anything. they need to be used and actually tested. Either way, any of the name brands will do the job just fine
@INFRNL1 Never did I say cummins is Mopar. Everyone knows Mopar is Chrysler garbage.
Mopar is the OEM filter since the engine is in a Chrysler vehicle with that Vin number.
Fleetguard is a top of the line filter choice.
"Claimed" specs are literally the tested specs that the companies have to do legally to publish results.
How else is shit rated unless it's tested and has specs they don't just make the shit up.
Looks do matter.... if something looks like shit its probably shit.
@@TylerTheFieldServiceTech maybe i mis understood you specifically saying that you don't consider fleetguard as aftermarket and that mopar garbage. Sounds like you called fleetguard mopar garage.
Donaldson, Baldwin and fleetguard are good looking filters that are well made.
Just because a company puts out claims doesn't mean that's how they perform. That's an wngineers thought process imo.
Just because something is good on paper doesn't mean it performs in the real world.
If a person does a test, i guarantee it won't match manufacturers claims.
Either way, as previously stated, any brand will filter the oil.
Take it easy and best of luck with your channel
@INFRNL1 Bruh I just read my comment again and realized I kinda forgot a transition sentence to bounce from fleetguard to ragging on mopar. My apologies completely on that. Yes sir you're completely correct and I agree with you. I always test the products I use and I would say about 80% match what they claim. I really appreciate your support and feedback. Sorry about my improper Grammer starting a argument that we both agree on. My apologies once again
lf9028 cant be beat.
I'm amazed people haven't learnt over the many years and run anything else. I guess people don't research history....
I’ve been running that filter on my 6.7 for sooo many years now, they are pricey
A higher micron rating is not a good thing. It's actually not a higher rating at all. It is a size rating.
The lower the number the better. But also the faster the filter will fill and collapse.
Agree
Where’s AMSOIL?
I ran amsoil after this video. I was very happy with the results. Here are the links.
