    Great video. For me, the Fluke 376 is my go-to meter. I've used the Fluke line of meters and equipment for decades, and uninentionaly subjected them to multiple water and heat tortures, but they refuse to die. As with any meter, use only premium grade batteries that do not leak and replace them as needed. A leaking battery will destroy your battery terminals and good luck trying to get the battery manufacturer to replace your meter.
    Also, getting a stable accurate amp reading on any meter involves aligning the wire directly in between the two horizontal dashed lines on the face of your clamp meter. If you look closely, there is a horizontal dashed line on either side of the clamp meter jaws and that's where you want to locate your wire. If the wire is situated too high or too low within the clamp, the reading will be different vs centering the wire in the clamp area.

    I've done this test on my videos. The Amprobe Navigator-52 needs a minimum of 5 or 6 amps to properly measure frequency through the amp clamp. If people are looking for a meter that can do it all they need to go with the Fluke 376. Not only can it do it without the probes, it can also do it with the iflex probe. Or the alternative reliable Fluke 87-5 with low pass filter on.

    Great video. With all the VFDs and inverters, a high frequency clamp meter is the way to go. Bluetooth is also a great feature for remote monitoring. 😎 Thank you. Nice video.

    For last 10 -15 years have used the VFD display to read frequency. Seldom used frequency output while troubleshooting numerous 6 & 18 pulse drives.

    Perfeito o teste.

    Thank you for a great video about VFDs and measuring with clamp meters! This was just what I wanted, and a bit more! :)
    Loved the throughout explanation about how VFD works, seeing the scope helped a lot. Interesting how some meters were just all over the place with voltages... I'm happy with my new Brymen BM079 so far, although haven't done any VFD measurements with it yet. Thanks again for taking the time & effort!

      I'm glad it showed the information you were looking for. I don't like my videos to be over 8 minutes long because people lose interest too fast on long videos. So, a lot of stuff went "on the editing room floor", and didn't make the cut. For example, I cur how the drive was drawing 0.5 Amps at 3 Hz (1/20th speed, 1/3 current), and drawing 1.5 Amps at only 20 Hz. I'm thinking I should have just done 1 video on VFD's, then separate videos for each Clamp. That way, people could just watch the Clamp they were interested in. Then, I could have done more testing to figure out why expensive Meters like the UEI were having trouble with some measurements.
      I don't own any Brymen Meters yet. Not too popular in the US. I think Greenlee Meters are made by Brymen, and I have one of their DMM's, but no Clamps.
      I'm always trying to think of topics that would interest people with Meters. If you think of something else you would like to see, just let me know.

    I have an question for you if you have a time to answer...
    I am about to buy one of this clamp meters:
    used perfect condition Fluke 376 (missing iFlex adapter)
    or
    unused Amprobe ACDC-52NAV.
    Both at the same price range. I have trouble to decide which one is bether choice.
    Fluke is trusted brand but it seems to me Amprobe have more features and I like it more. I need clamp meter that have inrush feature and both of this instruments satisfies this reqierments.
    I know it's an complex question, but based on your experience, what would be your objective choice?
    Thanks a lot in advance...

    If a drive is set up to output a specific frequency is there a way to tell if the motor is being overloaded at that frequency. I do not think that the motor nameplate full load amps would be accurate at a lower frequency. Many times we cannot run the motor at rated frequency as it could damage the equipment. P. S. Thanks for the knowledge sharing.

    sir, can i know number of voltage if we set different vsd frequency such as 20 Hz , 30 hz, 40 hz, or 50 hz on the display?
    at the video at fullspeed frequency vsd we see voltage are +-229 volt

      The hundred if drives that I PM'ED, tested & troubleshoot had a linear scale. If a 240 volt 60 Hertz drivecwas at 120 volts frequency would be 30 Hertz. At 180 volts would be 45 Hertz. Might be off at extremely low speed of say 4 Hertz. We never ran fans below 20 % and 25% for pumps. Great vid. I would never purchase or use test or safety equipment made in cheating lying lack of quality control china.

    • @GuyFromJupiter
      @GuyFromJupiter Год назад

      It should generally scale linearly with Hz, and I suspect that's even mostly true when the drive is set to vector control mode.

    I need a new meter- for industrial mains I use flukes but £££ so for the job of 12/24v control systems I was looking for a clamp meter with the lowest Amp / mA /uA range that can do DC if any can go that low.
    A scope BCN fit clamp probe could be good. Also what about the Testo 770-3 or one of the peak meter range ? Good video & I like the splitter so simple but effective x10.

    Can you tell me the exact model number you were using for the Amprobe brand.? it looks to be the Nav series. If that is the case the meter has a low pass filter that needs to be turned on in order to read a freq drive. Can you tell me if you had that turned on? If not can you retest and post the results. I just purchase that meter and am waiting for it to arrive.

    Probably the least expensive clamp meter with a V.F.C. function and DC amperage measurement.

      The Tacklife CM02A is another low cost meter that may be able to make accurate measurements.
      It blows my mind to see a meter under 20$ that can do all this stuff.

    • @MultiMeterChannel
      @MultiMeterChannel  6 лет назад

      I have several UT Meters, I just don’t have the 210E. You have to be careful with UT sometimes. They can build a quality meter when they want to, but sometimes they build for a low price point, and it shows up in poor functionality.

    • @MrTrollBeast
      @MrTrollBeast 6 лет назад

      What is V.F.C. function? Is it frequency clamp measuring?
      Does anyone here know how to test the frequency of a 3 phase alternating current generator, is it as simple as placing the + and - probe of the multimer on any of the 2 out of 3 wires?

  • @WV591

      That high frequency noise creates a lot of problems for the meter. Some of the high end Meters can measure them very well. You just need to decide what you want to measure, and select a meter that can handle those readings.

    What’s the best clamp meter for Hvac?

    • @MultiMeterChannel
      @MultiMeterChannel  4 года назад +3

      Travis Whitlow
      I can’t answer that question without a LOT of additional information. For example,
      What price range are you looking in?
      What is the maximum voltage and current you want to measure?
      Do you want to measure temperature with your clamp, or do you have a separate meter for that?
      If you do want to measure temperature, do you have a need for differential temperature?
      Do you want to measure capacitance with your clamp, or do you have a separate meter for that?
      Do you want storage capabilities?
      What is the maximum resistance range you measure to?
