    I actually think the ending shown in the deleted scenes is a little better than the movie in that it answers the question that Mina still has a life with her husband after Dracula dies, and therefore she is freed from his curse.

    • @onemig00
      @onemig00 9 лет назад +33

      ***** in the book that is the ending but i guess a lot of ppl may not want it to be. In the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Mina is still part vampire, though... but the fact the scar made by the host vanished in the last part here, means her soul was saved, and is pretty self-explanatory... still, I don't think anyone could just go back and kiss another guy after kissing their dying soul-mate... but that's just me

    • @SaveUsK2W
      @SaveUsK2W 9 лет назад +10

      +onemig00 this is arguable because Dracula never dies, Bram Stoker never finished the story, but his great nephew picked up the pieces and wrote the second half, there is an official sequel. Look up Dacre Stoker.

      onemig00 Oh indeed I agree, I would have told Johnathan to go to hell; I also would have lead them into a counter trap in favor of Dracula; that's me, also you are welcome. When ever you see something about dracula dying remember, he only wishes to get his love back, and to have her for all eternity; therefore he is doomed for immortality no matter how many times he "dies". He will always return.

      Coppola showed this scene to George Lucas who said it didnt work...Mina had to properly kill Drac or the curse wouldn't be lifted and he'd be back in another sequel (like old Dracula movies) he suggested Coppola reshoot the scene and make her cut his head off for greater impact and a proper ending.

    Went to the premiere of Dracula at the Chinese theatre.Red carpet the full cast was in the audience. Coppola walked down the aisle in a rumpled suit and made a little speech. We sat two rows behind Keanu.When his first scene comes on with that atrocious English accent the audience laughed. Keanu put his head in his hands. I felt so bad for him.These cut scenes show it could have been much worse.Still watch it every chance I can. Operatic indeed.

      I read one time that Keanu was definitely not happy with his performance in this film and cited being "burned out" as the reason why it wasn't that good. He had been working for five straight years doing this and that, so he already felt drained by the time he signed on for this movie. He said he did try his best, but he just had nothing to give.

Unlike other people's opinions I say the scene where he finds Dracula's coffin was awesome and should not have been deleted. Also, the parts where you see the vastness and bizarre layout of the Romanian castle as Keanu walks up and down the stairs is spectacular.

      When Keanu goes exploring in the remote areas of the castle and encounters the female vampires of Dracula’s brides definitely was the most intense images in the movie. When Monica Bellucci suddenly rises topless from between Keanu’s legs my heart stopped in thrall to her other worldly beauty. Haunting. I’ve read that vampires are often depicted as being physically beautiful as part of their adaptation as a predator of humans. Their attractiveness allows them to approach when stalking their next victim without too much difficulty. It’s also suggested that they cannot congregate around other vampires as their distinctive appearance would cause too much suspicion. Also apex predators require large hunting ranges so as to not over hunt and lead to their own starvation.

    I am of mixed minds about these scenes. On the one hand, most of the deleted stuff of Dracula's castle and his brides was genuinely interesting, creepy and flavorful. On the other hand, the scene between Johnathan and Mina in the beginning was so jaw dropingly awful that I think Keanu Reeves was going for the worst actor of the millennium award. Even his narration in the scenes I liked wasn't much better.
    I don't believe this is a complete compilation of the deleted scenes however. A few years ago I recall seeing a few more pertaining to when Van Helsing goes to kill Dracula's brides, and one with Lucy Westenra moving about a graveyard as the "bloofer lady" as described in the book. Sadly these don't appear to be anywhere on RUclips.

    I can't describe the amount of disgust I feel for the deleted final scene; so happy they changed it.

    I love his acting in this movie. And in other movies he's been in they seem like stellar performances too.

    Those are deleted scenes just in your market! I can confirm you that in the italian version those scenes were always presents in the final editing! I own both a bluray and an old dvd from the early 2000 and they both have these scenes.

      Alessio Malerba no, these scenes are not there in the final film and of course I can confirm it because I'm Italian,so the scenes are the same of yours ... If you are not convinced I can link here the film in italian so you can see by yourself

    I cannot care less about the other footage that was deleted but how could they delete this opening scene ?

      I think the opening scene was altered rather than cut out completely.

      They cnahged it because originally after screaming Dracula was supposed to turn into a monstrous man-bat creature we see later in the scene where he confronts Van Helsing and turns into rats. But the man-bat suit didn't work in bright light.

    I was grateful for watch these scenes that even clarify some parts of this beautiful and classic movie. Vlad Drăculea Third, who inspired Bram Stoker to write Dracula, was a brave man.
