Actually I don't understand...I think the ideal time to sign a new player is actually the January transfer window. At least the player would have half a season to try to get up to speed and be familiar with the team and ways of playing, have a proper pre-season and would be totally ready for the following season to come out firing. If the player is signed in the summer window, and if he ends up signing later or late in the window, the player will miss the entire pre-season, not have time to gel with the team and tactics and will end up missing a significant part of the start of the new season as he will not be up to speed.

If he Darwin and Chiesa end up leaving we will need lots of reinforcements. The ability to play the 10 is interesting also as it frees up Sly to play deeper and allow other mids to get rest. At the end of the day, even if he was allowed to take a vacation in January by the club, we hope that he will be responsible enough not to do so. It is about personal accountability and responsibility to his role as a senior executive of the club. It should be a given.

The more I think of it, you could even play Diaz 9, Gakpo LW, and Kvaratskhelia 10 and fit them all in the same lineup
