What a great video! I am planning to visit Japan next year in June. These are important phrases that I am definitely planning to memorize. Thank you so much for the great explanation.
More helpful and useful information about food and drink in Japan thank you very much Sarah!! 👏👏👏
Wow this is great cos i know of people who are a bit scared of eating out due to the language barrier. This would really help. And as you say restaurants there are generally very friendly and welcoming anyway.
I hope this will be helpful for those looking for a local restaurant experience!!
очень полезное видео! Спасибо ❤
Do you have another video please with ordering different kinds of foods such as usual foods?
Thanks sarah, im learning Japanese, 3 weeks in i have got Hiragana Katakana down and learned about 100 words and i feel like im at the base of mount Everest
Japanese is a difficult language to learn 😭 Good luck!! 💪

Thank you for showing how to use that new type of A.i. also I’ll try it out too and I’d like to talk with you guys more in Asia about that and Robots!! More then in America still after the strike that went on in Hollywood still not too much acceptance I feel and see!!
Those earbuds are like the universal translator from Star Trek. Very cool.
Haha they're really cool aren't they?! I first couldn't believe this was true 😂
thank you. do you have any tips or advise for visiting restaurant with kids who is still in the pram or high chair?
OH my God those ear buds look amazing. I wish I had them ON my very FIRST TRIP EVER (1995 no smartphones, no internet even)!
My wife left me alone at her house to go the izakaya with her sister "i'll be back soon." I start watching Every Hills Cop 3..dubbed in Japanese. Two hours later, her her mom comes home, and sits next to me, takes my hand, and speaks kindly and sincerely, for about an hour. I have no idea what she said. She was trying so hard, some times drawing or hand-signing..but it was wonderful. Then my wife came home...and BOOOM. (EVIL DEATH LASER EYES) NANI-SHITENO ? BAKA! JARO! lol it was so funny!
Oh hahaha thanks for sharing your story! 😂
Those ear buds seem cool, is there any delay, or is close to real time?
It's close to real time! As soon as the other person finish what they're saying, you will start hearing the translation on your earbud. The screen recording shows the actual timing aligned with the video. The time when translation is displayed on screen, is when you start hearing it on your earphone!

Hey Sarah 👋🏼😄 Hope you're doing good. Hopefully better since it's not as hot lately haha
This might be a little bit redundant, but whenever me and my friends go out to Shinjuku or whatever nightspot and order beers, we typically use 杯 (hai) as the counterword for "glass of" instead of つ (tsu). I guess the latter works too and I didn't know it 😅
Oh well, Kanpai! 🍻
Hi! I guess 一杯、一つ、一丁 all work for beer! But 一つ is the one that can be used for other terms like food dishes and cutleries, so to keep things simple, I decided to stick with 一つ throughout the whole video! I hope that makes sense!
@TokyoFoodieSarah Makes plenty of sense 😅
But trying to remember the plethora of Japanese counter words was such a nightmare as a learner so many years ago 😂
Oh for sure that's one of the most difficult thing about Japanese 😂
Do you think when those earbuds become more advanced that language learning will become passé?
I hope not, I like learning languages. And I realize that learning some languages that the grammar is in different areas of the sentence such as the verb is at the end in Japanese, which I don’t know Japanese very well and in some languages, you don’t have an, or a or the, like English does I think language is part of culture along with many other things? 🌻🌺🌴

Hi Sarah, are you of Chinese descent ?
No I'm fully Japanese!!
In case I run out of money, how do I say "Hey, look out behind you!" so I can dash off when they turn around, or "Please bill this to Tokyo Foodie Sarah's account"?
You don't need to remember that 😂
