  • Hello ELP Fans ;
As Official ELP Archivist I Will be Uploading some Vintage Live Recordings from my collection and hopefully you will enjoy these recordings, some of the sound quality of these recordings are not the greatest but the playing makes up for it.
Emerson Lake and Palmer were unique and only the people that actually saw and heard their performances in the 1970s and 1990s will understand completely.
This recording is here for entertainment purposes only.

I was there with my great friend, Jan. Great show in quadraphonic sound. We were seniors in high school and I got to see them again a few months later headlining at the California Jam, (with the spinning piano). Great time to be alive.

I have lots of memories of concerts at the historic Swing Auditorium. It was sad to hear that it was destroyed when a small plane crashed into it.

I was lucky enough to see the works tour, with 14 semi trailers full of Equipment. ELP on took up 3 trailers. The orchestra took up the rest. This is the recording WBMFTTSTNE WAS BASED ON. I am on my third copy of the triple album. What a concert.

Extraordinary. Thanks for uploading. Saw them live on this tour, sans orchestra. Incredible musicianship. Three amazing talents. Keith’s showmanship… Greg’s voice.. My brother & I left drenched from watching Carl’s nonstop intensity. Best concert in my life. Many say the same… 50 years later!! RIP Greg & Keith.

I have met carl a number of times at drum clinics Him on that stainless steel kit was just amazing......he said with all the drums it was physically exhausting playing it...thats why today he has a much smaller kit. He said with all the kit set up and the metal turning stage the weight was 2 1/2 tons. The Bass drum stainless steel needed two people to carry it. In west Virginia one night the kit fell through the stage floor prior to the concert

I was at this show. Thanks so much for sharing the audio that I thought I would never hear again! BTW, they dropped the live orchestra from the tour just prior to this appearance and used a reel-to-reel recording in its place. The tape machine was on the stage, lit up with its own spotlight! The technician running the tape machine had perfect timing, turning it on and off at the exact instant when needed to augment the guys. Amazing show, just the same. Unforgettable!

It was the 1977 or 78 Works tour at the Swing when they where touring with the orchestra but dropped it by the time they got to the Swing. I was at that one. I started going to concerts after my cousin came back from the 1974 Jam and brought their BSS album. It was the 1st we ever heard of them. i went to every concert at the swing for 4 years beginning in 1974. What I will never forget is that they used to take the whole ticket right up to the Kiss concert. Then after that they started tearing them and giving you back part of it. A little later it was reported that one of the guards was getting a divorce and his wife was suing for half of the money that he got reselling tickets.

I was too. Saw them and Jethro Tull the same year. Saw Tull and ELP together about 30 years later. ELP was STILL original and exciting. Tull, on the other hand, sounded old and stale

I was standing to left side of the stage, in front of Keith Emerson. Two months later I saw them again at California Jam. Thanks for posting this.

Man I wish I could have seen them for this tour. I is depressing that there is not much pro shot footage from this tour. Why they did not film this or the Welcome Back show that was recorded I will never understand. Toccata must have been mind blowing on that sound system. The drumming. Good heavens.

I'm so happy to have found this recording. Most of the shows from this tour don't include pictures of an exhibition. I still keep hoping that we'll get an official release one day I know they recorded it and just didn't release it because it didn't fit on the three albums of welcome back my friends

Just surprised that the ELP film/video archive from the 70's is sparse compared to other acts. They were ranked alongside led zep as the marquis band

I wish I had known about them for this concert. It wasn't until after my cousin went to the 1974 Jam that we heard of them and my cousin talked me into going to concerts. I went to every concert at the Swing for the next 4 years and saw them on their Works tour at the Swing after dropping the orchestra.

    Thank you.
    BravoZulu on your endeavor.
I’ve been a fan since they first began. Saw in San Diego and I believe maybe 3,000 showed up. Saw them every time they played in San Diego( my hometown) and LA(family.)
I was there at the Jam in 74. Left for military service 76 after college.
If you have those recordings, I’d be ever in debt to you.
We saw them if they were close to where I was stationed but the SD/LA are my fondest memories.
    SierraHotel on this concert recording.
