There were a number of issues with Vista, but the big one was that, to increase sales, Microsoft understated the requirements for Vista to appease OEMs. This allowed supermarket brands such as HP to sell crap computers with Vista installed (or at least a "Vista Capable" sticker), so when people bought their new computer with Vista, it was horrible to use because the hardware was inadequate out of the box. It's the opposite with Windows 11 where they disqualified modern, decent systems from running it in the name of "security."

I gamed on vista for about 4 or so years, and honestly? The OS is better than people give it credit for, but it is *absolutely* one of the awful ones. In fact it's the windows OS I had the *most* 'real' issues with, that weren't just massive inconveniences (like with Win 8), I suffered very heavily from the dreaded "KSOD" or "blacK Screen Of Death" which is a Vista Special™and genuinely very devastating because it even managed to corrupt my hardrive at the time which I barely managed to save. In terms of the way it looks and feels to use I genuinely quite liked Vista, but I had *so many* bugs and actual 'real' problems with it that it wasn't reliable enough to trust, especially not for 'real' work. Windows 7 was lightyears ahead in just about all aspects to be honest, and it was only two years after Vista, which is such a huge 180
I used a windows vista laptop for video editing like 12-10 years ago when I was 12 and I always liked the OS. I only later found out that people didn’t like it as much and it hurts me a little ngl 😭😂
@@Miniya From what I heard (I never really used vista I went straight from XP to 7) windows vista received some patches later in its life that made it significantly better, however it wasn't able to save it from it's initial reputation. That may be why you had a good experience.

Gonna be honest with you, I used windows vista for 8 years and have nothing but good things to say about it. People say it was bloated and slow, but it was actually the oems adding most of the bloat. A fresh copy of vista on capable hardware was perfectly useable.
Yepp! I don't have personal experience with this, but that appears to be the case. CRD has a youtube series talking about this very issue and the stupid ways they tried to fix it, and the only laptops that actually had a long boot time were the ones with bloatware straight from the OEM's. Otherwise it was fine, and the alternative "Quick Start" type of OS's were never needed nor an improvement.
