  • The iconic Kam Wai Dim Sum is famous for their value priced delicious dim sum and Chinese food. They are a family owned business operating in Vancouver Chinatown. You can enjoy their dim sum dishes in their store. As well, you can order some delicious frozen items to ham a little dim sum at home. Their dim sum items can also be found in supermarkets such as T & T Supermarket.
    In this video, we try some of their specialties such as the Jumbo Steam bao. It's a fluffy steamed bun filled with pork, duck egg and Chinese sausage. They also served a delicious Sticky rice steamed in lotus leaf and one of our favorites, the shrimp dumpling known as har gow. Their char siu bao is tasty with a savory pork filling. My favorite today is the Tofu Skin Spring Roll. It's a chewy steamed spring roll using tofu skin.
    In the second part of this video, we feature Mom's own recipe for Tofu Skin Spring Roll. Mom's version is grilled and it's delicious.
    Mom's Tofu Skin Roll Recipe. It's like an egg roll, but the wrapper is made of tofu. Tofu skin has a crispy and chewy texture, when they are pan fried or deep fried. Easy to make and delicious for dim sum. Also called bean curd skin. Tofu skin can be be bought in the frozen section of Asian supermarkets. In other Asian supermarkets, they are in the dry goods section.

    Recipe Is Below:
    MOM'S TOFU SKIN SPRING Roll RECIPE
    1 package tofu skin
    8 oz.(226 grams) ground pork (or used chopped pork)
    1/2 cup daikon radish chopped
    1 egg
    2 tbsp. chopped celery
    2 tbsp. chopped onions
    3 tbsp. chopped carrot
    1 tbsp. chopped ginger
    3 to 4 tbsp. prawns, cut up
    5 to 6 tbsp. Chinese mushrooms, chopped
    1 tsp. salt
    3/4 tsp. chicken soup base
    3/4 tsp. sugar
    1 tsp. sesame oil
    2 tbsp. light soy sauce
    Using scissors, cut tofu skin into rectangular shaped pieces
    or into pizza shaped pieces.
    In a large mixing bow, put the rest of the ingredients. Mix well
    with chopsticks or a fork.
    Cooking Procedure:
    Wet the tofu skin in cold water. Spred 2 tablespoons of filling on the
    tofu skin. Roll the tofu skin away from you, until the tofu skin is
    covering the filling. Tuck in the sides of the the tofu skin. Complete
    rolling the tofu skin, making sure the tofu skin is rolled fairly tight.
    Put peanut oil, or other cooking oil, in a pan.. Set the heat setting on medium
    to medium high heat. Cook a few tofu skin rolls at a time. Turn over rolls
    a few times until cooked. Usually cooking time is about 2 to 3 minutes.
    Pu the tofu skin rolls on a plate with paper towels. The paper towels will
    absorb some of the excess oil. Serve with your favorite sauce, such as plum
    sauce, chili sauce or soy sauce. Enjoy!
