I bought bf3 on a sale and when I got this dumbass message I was fuming in rage lol but you literally saved my day. Thank you for being responsible than EA themselves about their own game.
I've found a solution from 8 years ago and this worked.
Deleted everything from the following paths: C:\ProgramData\Origin C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts C:\ProgramData\EA Core C:\ProgramData\EA Desktop C:\ProgramData\EA Logs C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 3\Core
Restarted PC, started EA App, Repaired BF3 and now the game starts as expected.
Thanks, this has fixed my activation errors too! I guess deleting the folder "Core" from the Game Files Directory and then repairing the game is the main part as this deletes and renews the activation.exe file that throws the errors. However, according to other users, deleting the C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts folder seems to be already enough @vB1OS Please do a video about this easy guide as it easily fixed all my activation issues
Did not work for me unfortunately. I followed all the steps. When I try to launch the game from Battlelog it still says "We could not activate Battlefield 3 on this computer using the Origin account you provided" It then tells me to enter the product key and when I try to it says my computer isn't connected to the internet. Which is so stupid because how am I logged into the EA app then lol. This only happened when they forced us to switch to the EA app from Origin.

Update 8/5/2023. I have got a lot of reports saying it doesn't work recently. Yesterday after work I tried doing it from a fresh install. Did not work for me. I will attempt to fix the problem within the next week on my end; to get a better idea of how to fix this.
Just the installation of VU...with the email+password parameters fixed the EA play "activation" of the game. Thanks for the solution the EA were too incompetent to fix. :)

For those who can't move their mouse in-game or in the menu, you have to close your discord application in the icons area which is located next to your taskbar (On Windows). Hope this helps!

Did not fix my issue. I also tried repairing my game files and uninstalling and reinstalling Battlefield 3, all the add-ons, and the EA app. The issue persists.
Have the same trouble on ps3 console ''cannot connect battlelog'' message... even if my battlelog is open on the computer while I'm playing. Does someone know a fix for it? It piss off badly when that message appears on the screen in the middle of a fight... I’m almost certain to die every time ! Thank you!

Но в финале я запускал не через VU Client (не мог залогиниться), а обычным путем через значок BF3 и с запуском EA. Автору ролика спасибо, а техподдержке EA пинок под жопу - 5 дней два мудака писали мне вежливые мэйлики, сообщая как они рады мне помогать...
So I followed the steps but the error is still happening ): Please help? After i put in my email and password I click the client to run it and it doesn't open, i click it several times and it don't open. at least I think its not running? I noticed the application didn't open for you either so I thought I was doing it right. I then deleted the email and password in properties and clicked apply. then clicked the client again and its not running it
So after I remove the activation command i hit apply, then okay, then click the client and it says I need to log into origin, when I do it says it needs a key. I do the process over, and run it through battlelog browser and it still pops up that I need a key. I have a key for it, but it doesn't let me enter it. It just goes on to say I'm not connected to internet. which I am.
@@luciddgamerryt4421 That origin activation program is broken, even if you provide what it wants it will not work. Dont bother. Can you try to remove all EA hidden files and uninstall origin. Then reinstall using the download off the EA website.
My game launches from EA APP, but then opens Origin, Origin opens Browser the Battlog website pops up, saying it is trying to open Origin, Origin then cant open showing 20:403 error code, then i cant do anything.

@@OnlyTop15 right click the VU shortcut and place this after vu.exe in the "target" text field: -activate -o_mail email -o_pass password replace "email" with your EA account email and "password" with your EA account password. Then run the shortcut. After running remove the line of text you added to the target. It should start right up

Will this still detect that I'm playing Battlefield 3 on steam? I was going for 100% achievement completion run and I'm afraid that this solution will make it impossible.
In this scenario I am using the VU client for the purpose of activating the game. If you make the choice to play on the VU client it will not count to your steam hours nor achievements. However if you play launching it through steam it will count to your achievements.

I was in a similar situation to you; I own the game on steam and I don't have a activation code. One day I decided to play BF3 on PC and got this error. I searched for the fix and started reading the VU troubleshooting guide. I found this launch argument that also activates the game for the standard client. I have played the game a year back with no problems then I got this. I have no affiliation with VU. To answer your statement: I need to have launched the game via battlelog at least once; I could not launch it through battlelog and it worked for me.
@@MaSoNGaMeR115 Im shooting in the dark here, but do you have a VU account linked to the Origin Account? Also if the user/pass is not correct it will not work. You must run the command without the "" symbols as well. It has also been reported this fix may need a restart to work.
Sadly this didn't work for me... I really want to go to US to EA HQ and do full Scorpion combo including fatality on those fuckers who invented Origin and then fucked BF3's abillity to just work. :|

Will this still detect that I'm playing Battlefield 3 on steam? I was going for 100% achievement completion run and I'm afraid that this solution will make it impossible.
In this scenario I am using the VU client for the purpose of activating the game. If you make the choice to play on the VU client it will not count to your steam hours nor achievements. However if you play launching it through steam it will count to your achievements.
@@vB1OS Oh I see then. So the VU client is used only to activate this game. After this Battlefield 3 should work normally as it did before. I apologise for the confusion I misunderstood how this works. Thank you.

so do you not really need an origin activation code to play it? i haven't tried this yet because im kinda skeptical, i got bf3 a few days ago on steam and i get the error but i have no activation code and i don't have the vu client either. literally never been able to play bf3 on pc since i got it and i noticed it says on their website you have to have launched the game via battlelog at least once so would what mean it wont work for me?
I was in a similar situation to you; I own the game on steam and I don't have a activation code. One day I decided to play BF3 on PC and got this error. I searched for the fix and started reading the VU troubleshooting guide. I found this launch argument that also activates the game for the standard client. I have played the game a year back with no problems then I got this. I have no affiliation with VU. To answer your statement: I need to have launched the game via battlelog at least once; I could not launch it through battlelog and it worked for me.

@@MaSoNGaMeR115 Im shooting in the dark here, but do you have a VU account linked to the Origin Account? Also if the user/pass is not correct it will not work. You must run the command without the "" symbols as well. It has also been reported this fix may need a restart to work.

Could I still be able to play other games of Origin?
Some yes others no. After BF3 activates there is no need to have Origin installed. You can remove Origin and then install EA app.
Sadly this didn't work for me... I really want to go to US to EA HQ and do full Scorpion combo including fatality on those fuckers who invented Origin and then fucked BF3's abillity to just work. :|

@@vB1OS But now this thing is coming up again. Battlefield 3 was launched for some time. After the first successful launch of the game, I deleted VU from the computer, it worked, then I re-followed your recommendations and the problem did not remain, I pointed out the problem to EA. Will they fix it or not and how soon is the question
