Our Cheap 81,000 Mile Ferrari FF Already Broke (BADLY)

- Unfortunately after just one week, our cheap 81000 mile Ferrari FF already broke. It could be a very very bad repair after further diagnosis. On the other hand, we did finally perform the custom 1 off Ferrari FF "stars in the roof" install. This fixed our sagging headliner issue and completely transformed the interior! It looks like a Rolls Royce Starry Night headliner.

My dads FF had same issue but was under warranty - replaced entire unit at their cost.
Not a fan of the star light headliner but love the channel. Keep up the awesome videos! Hope the Ferrari isn’t too expensive to fix. Maybe convert it to RWD only? 🤔
L
Apperently there is a shop that rebuilds the ptu for FF’s and puts higher quality seals in that in theory should last significantly longer then the stock seals. I read about it on Ferrari chat and honestly if I were in this situation would be what I’d explore instead of a replacement since it appears the seals aren’t the best in these units.
Ss autotech in England rebuild the tpu better than factory
First place in the Ferrari FF Wagon for the Future of the Modified Supercars in the World.
That headliner will knock at least 5k of the cars value
If it ends up being shot and it will be a $30k+ repair bill, I would then try every cheap solution if you have nothing to lose. (Seal reconditioner, thicker trans oil, stop leak, disconnect it from spinning, crazy glue, duct tape…). You may get lucky. 👍
Great video as ever, Ferrari designed that AWD system because a standard AWD meant that they couldn't have a low centre of gravity and they said it would ruin the design! Any news on the Ford truck?
Make it rear wheel drive, will be more fun 🤩
Sorry to hear about your PTU issues. As a Ferrari FF owner it would be really helpful to hear the true cost of repair and options. Love my FF more than anything but the PTU does have me worried. Thankfully I am still under warranty.
At least the headliner is nice 😂 This is why I love these shows I live vicariously though the host’s vehicle purchasing decisions
Thanks for sharing rich people problems that most of us will never learn if not for your exceptional documentation
Starlight headliner is like scissor doors on V12 lambos. Awesome OEM but aftermarket should always be a no go. Starlight headliner for Rolls Royce or not at all.
The remote control for that ‘starlight headliner’ looks surprisingly Chinese and low rent considering it was probably very expensive to get installed!
It’s all Chinese piece of shit parts
I literally have the same remote for all my piece of shit Chinese led in my room and cars
You 2 guys gotta cut it out with these crazy aftermarket things your doing to some of your cars. Ferrari will be disappointed by you messing up their cars. And if you sell it....it will have to go back stock for real value. It's cool for American cars, but English and Italian cars...keep stock trust me. Danny from Los Angeles.
IT'S SO COOL THO!
That’s why it’s reversible…
Mmmm, you showed the FChat thead on the PTU so you know it can be repaired, and improved with new O rings for circa 10-12k. The issue is caused by oil getting past crappy rings which Ferrari replaced late in the life of the FF and in advance of the Lusso. They can still fail, although less often, and so there are specialists that rebuild the unit with better O rings and that does the job properly. Many cars have inherant issues, the FF has this one. You also know that the failure rate is single figure percentages against cars sold which is less than the 997 911 liner issue, for example.
It's cool to make a channel that people want to watch, and it's cool to dramatise the content, but a lot of what you're saying you know isn't true as you learned that on FChat,
Disappointing really.
That’s got to hurt the pockets on that repair but that’s the cost to have cool toys. Thank you for letting me see the upside to auctions and the downside of them too .Supercar in my future
Sorry about the front trans!
Save that stock headliner! It will be great for resale. Ferrari owners are all about stock.
Check the fuse box, you might just have to pull a fuse to keep the valves open...that's what I did for my Aston DB9
Seems to me someone should develop an AWD delete for the FF. The AWD is a cool feature but at $50k every 20k miles I'd go RDW.
hey did you guys get the truck back yet?
Unfortunately no :(
Well I would try to leave the car just as a two wheel drive car. Maybe I'm stupid but I would try that solution, obviously in a safe way.
If it were only that easy. It’s unfortunately not as simple as disconnecting the PTU and cruzing around. There are multiple sensors that monitor the front tires, axles, and suspension to automatically add power to the PTU, and many functions programmed into the ecu’s. Without significant reprogramming and mechanical modification it’s nearly impossible, and it’s been explored in many discussions on Ferrari chat.
But I like you thought it wouldn’t be too difficult until I researched it. The better bet is contact one of the places that rebuild the PTU with better components and have a better part that should last longer.
Yikes. Ours going in Monday as we have every light on. Hoping just a wiring short. Grrr
Hey I am new to this channel but already this is legendary content I saw every video from the Mercedes-Benz 320 I think, I am already subscribed You guys are the BEST!! I am the 21 guy to comment on this video
Noo, why would you wrap it red? The black with the little yellow details look so clean
RWD CONVERSION, PLEASE! The front wheel system is ONLY engaged via the software. This means it should be possible in theory to upgrade the CPU to NOT use the front wheel drive system and hence you might be able to have a "quick" fix where you simply leave the damaged gearbox where it is and not use it! If this is possible, you will have the best of two worlds as the car is not rebuild in a costly conversion to RWD which again will affect the originality and price as the next owner can simply re-install the original software and have the gearbox repaired and VOILA 100% original again. Good luck :-)
40 grand for the awd ? Disconnect and remove the front transmission and make this car rear wheel drive. 40 grand is crazy. Rear wheel drive is a cooler drive and lighter to boot. Id remove all that nonsense..
Nice to see that people with more money than sense can always put a disco roof liner in thier Ferrari, CHEESY.....
Its G-Class not g wagen!!!
This is the same issue with the Porsche PDK transmission. A $10 sensor inside can fail (they’re all plastic) and Porsche will not open the ZF made trans. ~$30k bill from the dealer, no repairs offered, just replace.
Did you find your truck
Hope everything is good !!!
Putting a new headliner while you discover a leak and transmission failure shows you have the wrong priorities. Make sure it runs great before investing in esthetics.
Ugh, what a bad break on that. F in the chat for sure. :(
Especially after the headliner mod, you're probably stuck in a spot where you have to go forward with the potential PTU repair, whatever that entails. If it were me, I'd be sorely tempted to sell asap once that repair is done though. Don't get me wrong, it's a gorgeous car and spec. But if the PTU's just going to fail again and the only answer is give Ferrari another $45k, I'd rather invest that into another vehicle entirely. (just imo of course)
Take care, guys!
There are rebuilders who install better seals in the PTU. This fixes the factory defect, and greatly extends the life of the AWD system.
To See how he removes the actual ceiling literally broke my European heart into two peaces. He destroyed a finished masterpiece...
Anyone know what time this actually gets talking about the cars faults ? 18 minutes video seriously ?
I'm sorry if I missed out on the video but what do you guys do for a living to have so many nice cars and planes and you're about 10 years if not 15 years younger than me I'm just curious what you guys do for work besides RUclips unless RUclips really pays. Good
Ferraris denial issues on the quality of there products have not changed I see. Just like the shot down Lamborghini back in the day when he came to them to point out issues and Ferrari basically told him to F off
Ferraris are junk! They're living off their name, and past reputation! The price doesn't match the product.
Ptu rebuild can be done for $8k roughly.... DO NOT PAY 35K for new ptu
FCA when you reach 100k miles it's over don't matter if it's the expensive Ferrari or the cheap dodge
This is a VERY bad look for Ferrari. There are a lot of great cars in that segment. Maybe buyers should look elsewhere until they make good on this outrageous fail.
The headliner looks like those beddazzling things girls used to play with. It looks mighty cheap bro.
Could you just convert the FF to RWD?
Starry Light headliner....you'd have to be thick to do this or an American.
Is not gonna be the cheapest one around soon it’s gonna be the most expensive one around with that transmission how do you anything about Phone Kaiser very expensive to fix Chevrolet Corvettes are a lot cheaper
I cant believe that you afford everything of this... Even my dream ferrari!
lol I knew a Taycan was coming😂
SOON :)
Ferrari seems like an overhyped over-priced oversized Italian go-cart.
The headliner is a dumb move but whatevs it’s your rari. I love the leather and stitching that’s up there.
That's an odd roofline mod for a car like this, seems more fitting for a limo.
The Maserati is so much better looking!
Change my mind! 😁
There is a company that has a fix for that problem for about $10,000
Couldn't you just leave it in sport mode so the front wheel drive doesn't engage?
*Ohhh boy this just got interesting* 👏👏
that must really suck bro sorry i feel for you
Never buy a 2nd hand Ferrari unless you can add full warranty
Good video potential "Ferrari wanted 50k to fix our FF... We did it for ---" lol good luck
I hope so!
I'm sorry, but this really downgraded the car in my eyes
Is the installer single? 👀 Boy lookin thick 💪
Hiiiiii jr garage I hope you find your truck
Yeah, still not a fan of the starlight... leather looked more cash, at least to me. Regardless, great content guys!
So sorry you're having serious issues with the FF. I love this car!
Cutting edge or cutting throat technology. You decide.
Waiting for the new car reveal.
hope everything is good!
Why not disconnect and remap? You guys can turn it to a rwd
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOO BEING SO CHEAO AND TRAILER YOUR CARS
I know how to fix that. Don`t by a Ferrari.....
Next video.. First K20 Swapped Ferrari FF in the world!!! Might as well. I mean, it would be a lot cheaper
How about an update on the 911 LS Swap thanks
Starlight headliner is a little tacky looking when not in a RR….second thought it looks tacky in RR’s too 😂 but you do you fam
Can you delete front transmission?
When can you enjoy the starlight BS? At least not while driving. So what is it good for?????
Just money for nothing.
Updates on the stolen ford truck? 😢
What a destruction of such a classic looking car... Stars only in the rolls for me. But seems I'm too European for that maybe.
It really is a big bummer that you have to do these repairs …. Hope at least they won’t be as expensive as you think they are 👍😀
It doesn’t look good. Everyone knows about the issues with the PTU, this should have been budgeted when purchasing an FF out of warranty.
Good luck guys, couple of $2 oil seals and new ATF and she will be grand 😬
My clutch hose broke and looked the same. Note manual 6 speed old school. But not sure if Ferrari design would even have the hose. But if only a hose may not be so bad. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I like the starlight headliner. 😁 ⭐️
Major transmission problems.
How much was the star light job ?
Awww man I loved that car why does it have to be the transmission 😔 first your f350 or f150 I forgot that got stolen and now the ferrari FF's transmission has gone to haven 😔 and it costs way more than it should be for the price of the car
Come on guys, not a word about the stolen truck! Even if there's no news, just let us know. Also, would be nice if you were able to give general price range for the starlight treatment.
RWD conversion is the answer
What do they do with the cars they buy.
Imo star headliner is a RR type of thing but it’s cool. If you like it , heck ya. Love the FF. Sucks to hear on trans
Haven’t seen y’all drive the v12 Benz on a budget I miss it that’s how I started watching you guys chanell
why limp it and not tow it?
Can't u make the FF rear wheel drive instead of AWD. Just like Mondi's?
Why would anyone want such an unreliable and expensive piece of junk???
You have the freshest 🍋’s in town
But 1 percent of 1100 is not 100 tho haha
Your headliner looks good.
Nah man you guys are ruining this beautiful italian beast by putting a gaudy starlight headliner in there that will be out of style on 5 years. Stock Ferrari is timeless.
Star headliner? I don’t see it.
Horrible mod for a FF. Not cool at all.
Rwd swap??? Is it positive?
All those super cars are awesome, but there is no way I would pay the prices for the parts and service, way too much overkill!!!
Ceiling lights add any hp?
