LYRICS
Jami was a good friend
Back when we were kids and my father got sick
We would hang out on the weekends
In her house by the cathedral where all the good people
Got dressed up on a Sunday
To go and spill their secrets no matter who the preacher was
We used to find that funny
But it’s easy when you’re young not realize that you’re lucky
When the last of your friends are gone
You learn a whole lot about hanging on
But if you crash and nobody sees
Just remember there will always be
A room for you in my house in the trees
Aaron was a good friend
We were in our twenties, we drove across the country
Then moved into the canyon
And he looked after the business the year that I got sick
Then we went off in different directions
Kept in touch but it never was the same
I never got to thank him
But I wrote it in a letter
I’m sure I”ll send it someday
When the last of your friends are gone
You learn a whole lot about hanging on
But if you crash and nobody sees
Just remember there will always be
A room for you in my house in the trees
I am a lucky man
I have been so many places
When I dream it seems I’m chasing
A bittersweet memory
When the last of your friends are gone
You learn a whole lot about hanging on
But if you crash and nobody sees
Just remember there will always be
A room for you in my house in the trees
When you reach your mid 30’s this means so much. I sure do miss my high school friends. We still talk, but it no longer has meaning.
one of those songs where the first three notes and you know you love it
Reminds me of Cavanaugh Park!
Yessssssssssssss!
Agreed
Ever since I first heard this, it’s been my favorite song across the entire Andrew McMahon catalog, and I think I recently figured out why it resonates so much… and it’s because it’s Konstantine for your mid-late-30s. Hear me out.
Why did Konstantine gain such a following? Because it resonated. Andrew was young. His fans were young. It was relatable, and the lyrics and instrumentation were amazing.
Now, Andrew and all those same fans are in their mid to late 30s. We’ve all grown, but just like Konstantine captured how we felt in our early 20s, House in the Trees captures how we feel now, as adults, doing our own things, while still reminiscing about growing up.
I think you're right. It really does resonate strongly
I'm a tougher nut to crack as I get older. But this one really hit me the same way. it's probably his best work.
i just moved across the country at the age of 30 for my job, away from all my friends and family back home. As supportive and encouraging as they were, it wasn't easy for them. This is my song for them. No matter where life takes us, we'll always have our experiences and memories.
This song for some reason gives me 70s music vibes. Love it.
Sounds more like the '80s to me.
This album so far seems to possess such nostolgia. Hits right in the heart
This is my favorite song from the album! It's official!!
@@CiarraMMichelle the opening part reminds me *musically* of SoCo, I guess the lyrics do too though it seems to be more about Everything in Transit.
@@Andevenafter Andrew has stayed true to his roots though he has branched off a bit. That is something I respect about him.
It's a song that really helps me when my heart hurts. Thanks Andrew
Great song. I'm in the same life stage as Andrew, pretty much all my highschool and college era friends have moved away/had families. We're all too busy now. Connections fade away.
Andrew is such a lyrical Genius he dosent have one song I dont like.
My favorite Andrew song in years!
Great one
I was really missing my friends tonight. They all live elsewhere or are married, and I did Thanksgiving alone this year because I recently had covid and didn't want to take a chance, so I was extra lonely. Then this song comes on my Pandora. It helped a lot, actually.
This album feels so nostalgic yet present. Andrew never disappoints!
Favorite song on the album for sure. It’s the kind of song that speaks to your heart. It feels so much like his old stuff and yet still fresh. Love it so much.
Fresh
This song gives me Cavanaugh Park vibes back from the Something Corporate days. Anyone else!?
C. Campbell little bit
Andrew was in that band!
This easily the best song he's written since the Something Corporate days,
Im blown away by the new album and this song. So heartfelt, beautiful lyrics and such flow. The perfect song.
GREAT SONG!!!!! I can totally hear this on the radio already. HIT!
とても懐かしくなる曲調
SCのときから好きでした
I can't stop listening! I know every word and this song has only been out for 2 days
It's so good
I understand
this gives me major everything in transit vibes! only a little more poppy
I can't believe this song is 3 years old. Will always be a favorite
really really nice song...touching and wise lyrics
Fleetwood Mac vibe on that guitar
Love this whole album, but this song hits closer to home right now than any of them.
Just heard House in the Trees today. You are terrific!
This song... I love this song
Never cease to amaze
Fresh
The guitar intro is kinda like the saxaphone riff from "who can it be now" from Men at Work
Downloaded the album on itunes. Fantastic music! Thank you Andrew :-)
This album omg ♡♡♡ I am almost in tears
been listening to this album for the entire day, this one got stuck playing in my head
thank you :)
Very Al Stewart-ish...which is a good thing. Beautiful, melodic song!
Excellent song, again, from A Mchamon and his band
This was beautiful heard it on my local station dc 101 when they had him in town for a show
Andy must have been listenin to Fleetwood Mac aye?
just saw you live in Indy, awesome performance man!
Thinking of you, T. 🖤 We're expecting you to get well soon. 🖤🖤
The guitar in the chorus sounds like the ending section of the song there's no easy way out from the rocky soundtrack!
Seven Wonders
OMG YESSSS I THOUGHT THE SAME THING
It's the exact guitar riff from Seven Wonders - Fleetwood Mac. Yup.
Great use of the Fleetwood Mac sample (Seven Wonders) in this track.
They just nicked the riff, actually. Subconsciously or otherwise. :P
Same guitar lead as "There's no easy way out" from Rocky 4. When it's good, you don't change it!
I know where the verse coming from but I don’t know the name and it’s not from the rocky movies that I’m referring to
Out of all the songs he could have sampled, I’d never have expected Konstantine to be one of them.
But it’s definitely not just sampling, it’s a little more, and that’s where the powerful nostalgia comes from.
I think I also hear a little of I’m Ready and Holiday from Real mixed in.
Sampling? They're nowhere near the same other than a couple notes
I don’t think the songs sound the same, but I just wrote a comment that I recently realized House in the Trees makes you FEEL the same in your 30s that Konstantine did in your early 20s. Maybe that’s what you’re experiencing?
Is it Jami, Jenny, or Janie in the 1st verse? I've seen lyrics that all say differently.
Best song on the album, btw!
Jami
@@manasgarg7491 Thanks!
The lyrics are in the description :)
@@CiarraMMichelle I knew that.... I was just making sure everyone else was paying attention... 😂
No, seriously, I don't know why I didn't even think to look there, ya know, in the most obvious spot, lol! I guess yesterday was just one of those days. 💙 Thanks so much!!
@@jmack7281 It is no problem at all! Glad you have your head back haha
Best song on an otherwise weaker album from him.
Jack’s Mannequin fans?
