Yeah, I wish I could have had the Mig-15, but never got my hands on one. Totally agree those 2S 28mm EDF's were screaming and weak...now the 30mm 4S EDF's are super powerful and sound amazing!!!
Purchased a used one that had been crashed. Needed some TLC, but SO much fun to fly, after the rebuild. It doesn't like flying too slow and nearly drops out of the air. But, you keep the speed up, and it flies amazingly well. Everything you expect from a plane this size. Thinking of buying another.
Neat plane. I really appreciated your comments about it feeling soft on the sticks. Given my flying style, I know that I wouldn't enjoy that. It does look incredible though.
I suspect you could take that out if you ran a -5% or -10% expo on the elevator and ailerons. She is easy to fly, so good building blocks to make the subjective adjustments from pilot to pilot, but still really dang good for a UMX. Flies A LOT like the bigger 80mm we did from FMS - bprc.me/FMS_F86 - which is also very dang good!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Ya that 3 blade fan in the UMX Habu sounds like a pissed off hair dryer, this 6 blade is much better. Like that it can be removed without splitting the fuse same as larger EDFs, could balance the fan, some videos sound like it could benefit from balancing based on the sound in the 25-30% throttle range. There’s aftermarket 10-12 blade units in the 30mm size.
You've addressed all my concerns except 1 in the swept back wing design. I've never flown a delta wing and I fly slow. Tail Heavy Productions mentioned in their video about stalls that dihedral wing designs have a stronger stall tendency. Worried I'll be like the cat that climbs the tree but can't come back down if that makes sense.
You'll be fine. This plane flies great, but just don't get burned on SLOW landings, and forcing TOO much fair, and you'll be fine. This plane was surprisingly easy to handle.

Well, as I guy that made it to the end. I went in for an eye exam, first one in years. Dr. did the adjustment things on that big klunky multi lens thing and told me to sit back. Sade the right eye was, and read it off to me. Then he said, your left eye is, and put his finger through the hole. Somewhere in my parents, budget rate eye doctoring, they decided to just match the prescriptions. Wonder where the headaches came from. Anyways, instead of getting lasered they put these little clips in my eye that deformed the lens a bit and for 10 years I had 20/20 vision, except at night when my eyes would dilate and it would go past the clips and I would switch to left eye dominate. When my eyes changed, they pulled the clips because NOBODY was doing that. Let me heel then lasered. Much better, no uncomfortable thing in my eye (talk about not rubbing the sleep out of your eyes you can't TOUCH them with that clip in there. just feels weird) In either case, running around without glasses with corrected vision and of course, sunglasses because we look at the sky all day flying models so get good UV protected sunglasses is just the best. 5 years later I got old or my arms got too short, one or the other. So NOW I have bifocals which I generally keep on so I don't loose them but I take off when I'm flying because distance is not a problem. It SEEMS like a heavy expense when you're young but you don't have a constant stream of cleaner, lubricant and new lenses as with contacts OR need to replace lenses because no matter how diligent you are, they're gonna need replaced every year anyways. Amortize that over potentially a lifetime and lasering once even twice is cost effective and massively convenient. Good recommendation. I've always loved the F-86. I know it's time is long gone like Thunderbolts and Mustangs but it just looks like flight incarnate. Just like an SR-71 looks like liquid flying speed. I fly my UMX Timber at my home field and know they are more fragile then the Rubbery Volantex style planes BUT I'm a little less careful with those and I find the UMX flight controller a little more predictable when you go off safe mode. The only complaint I have is the fragile nose. Not the plastic ring for the intake, but the foam itself. One hard landing on the wheels damages the fore section of the fuselage. A little foam safe glue and eheating the foam to get it back into shape (mostly) fixed the problem. I have since taken to belly landing it. However, I have to land in high grass as the least impact in landing re-damages the nose. I have a new fuselage for it that I will eventually transfer the original parts to. I really do like the plane. It flies great for a small jet. I wish the foam was a little more forgiving.

Hi Brian, enjoyed your presentation. This F86 is a nice example of excellent micro edf engineering. Question. Would a 4s 450mAh with a 45C work well for this bird? Thanks.
It is if you fly when we were, sun up and sun down...that's all we get in spring...it's like million miles per hour wind, then sunset - which is super annoying, especially when we have tight windows to hit, like these "new" releases. Thank you for understanding, and just to be clear, small and silver IS tough to see in backlit skys, so have SAFE on if you get disoriented, and then get re-oriented, and you'll be golden, just like the sunset ;) Go for it! Hey there Brian! Have you checked to see if the UMX F-86 Sabre Rx board has the Flaperon / Spoileron function like the newer UMX Me262 and UMX Conscendo? Not sure if this will aid in slowing the UMX F-86 Sabre on landings.
The one in the Micro Draco is NOT as critical as this one, but YEAH...I far prefer the IC2, over JST for this application, EXCEPT I don't have many to work with, AKA, I want to build adapters, and don't have a small pack of them, but I do for virtually every other type of connector.
I’ve seen a couple of videos meanwhile and the first thought was “oh no, what an annoying sound - screamer”, so I’m surprised you said it sounds great… maybe different characteristics in person. It reminded me of the UMX A10, which imho is still nicer due to the typical twin ‘singing’. It definitely looks awesome, though. Nice flights.
Lol, one day you're going to go take one of your certification tests or get a checkride and there will be that awkward moment when the proctor/evaluator recognizes you from one of these videos.
Id like to see an actual first flight right out of the box because I've always had to trim on 1st flight, but your like hands off perfect flight right out of the box. Just about every hh model needs some trimming out of the box. But I get it its all about the money.
Hi Brian, I took your advice on a starter plane. Unfortunately it has been over a month since I ordered it, through your link, and I still do not have the plane. I'm not getting very good communication from the company that I placed the order through. The received payment but I have no plane. This is not your fault and I thank you for your previous help. Not sure if you can help me resolve this issue or if I will be flying all of my future planes on the flight simulator I purchased from a different company on one of your other links. Anyway, Happy Flying!!!
We're sorry to hear you're having issues getting your plane! I'm not sure there's much we can do, but if you reach out to us via the email in the "About" Tab, we'll see if we can help! We're happy to try if we can... we'd like to see you in the air!
I don't have a favorite SCALE (you mean like "1:50" / "1:10" - Please Note, I'm NOT time stamping, but RUclips is trying to make these time stamps...sorry, not sure how to stop it ) - I just like SCALE planes in general. I don't mind BIG or SMALL so long as they fly well. I love big when it's practical, but small when they can fly in SOME wind and still make you feel like hobby grade flight experience, which is why I LOVE the UMX lineup...they just WORK. bprc.me/F86 - UMX
@@BrianPhillipsRC Sorry, I worded that horribly. I meant "What's your favorite scale-looking military style UMX"? There are a lot that are discontinued and they come out with new ones all the time. I'm wondering if the old ones fly just as well or if the tech in the new ones is improved significantly. Or if there's a particular airframe that has stood out as flying better and more scale than others. Just curious your thoughts on that. Thanks!!
Hello, a tea made from Oregano reduces excess mucus. Also, dipping a third to a whole teaspoon of Oregano placed in the mouth to suck on for twenty to 45 minutes will reduce mucus and increase breathing. Check it out sometime.

About once every other year I get a craving for it and purchase a can. Some people go crazy for Spam in a can and eat it like it is chocolate cake. Oh well. " Hey! "
Lets hope this is not the start of the slippery slope for the RC flying community - that is to say into flying toys - The Shape of things to come for the RC Aircraft (DRONE) hobby , I guess you have to work with what you get - I guess more and more of this small stuff will come out for those who do not fly in a FREA.... or do not want to use a Remote ID, As always you do a good review...
Time to get back into cars then i guess... Well, no, flying is way to good to not do it. And yeah Horizon brings out mainly micros at the moment, but look at like Heli brands for example, OMP, Goosky they dont back up they still design 700s.
Hi Brian. I have the plane and want to use a battery that has a xt30 plug on it. So I will need a ic2 female xt30 male adapter to make it work. Is there such an adapter? I haven't found a source for one, any suggestions? Thanks.
Hi Brian. Here's my ic2 solution update. After searching, I couldn't find an ic2 adapter for this plane, so I came up with another way to connect my xt30 battery to an ic2 plane using a modified blue ec2 adapter. In short, if you take a blue ec2 adapter which is too tight by itself to fit into the Sabre's ic2 connector, and carefully separate the two ec2's twrminals where the blue plastic joins them and with a file remove just a bit of the resulting plastic burr around each blue terminal, the now separated blue ec2 terminals will easily slide into the plane's ic2 connector. This mod works perfectly for adapting a xt30 battery connector using a ec2/xt30 adapter. I used a wired adapter. You may also be able to modify a xt30 adapter in the same fashion, however the xt30's +/- terminals yellow plastic housing is molded closer together so it's harder to safely separate the two terminals in the same way. I found the ec2 connector mod works the best. Hope this mod helps those with ic2 questions.
No. The DUAL PROTOCOL was a nuance of the Apprentice STOL (to date), and might be available in a few other planes in the future, but not this plane, the F86 UMX. I believe the F86 is just DSMX...meaning the DXS and DXe would potentially work, but not the SLT6, which is NOT dual protocol btw, it just paired up with a DUAL protocol plane (the Apprentice STOL) in that RTF package... That being said, there WILL be others coming down the pike, from what we've been told, that will support dual protocols.
I've done a retract mod on my umx p51 ironically using a servo from an old umx turbo. It takes time and you need to know what you're doing but it's possible. Horizon just doesn't want to re-engineer it because it would cost them a ton of money so they threw out the word "impractical" and people bought it.
@@meazy451 Thank you meazy451 for your testimony!! It is completely logical that this thing is achievable nowadays, it is clear, as I also think, that it is a cost problem!! The curiosity would be, how much would the cost difference be? If they were to create a new umx model from scratch by inserting retractable landing gear, for example a mig15 I would definitely buy it and like me many others!! There are many of us who think like this!! After all, let's face it, the icing on the cake is missing!!! 😊
I've actually got 4 of those lipos already. The 4s 450mAh 50c come with a JST connector. And it's a friggin dream in the Baby Draco! The 30c's come with the IC2, which is fine. We've all got adapters. But, I really take the Lipo into consideration when new planes pop up. If I've already got a few, it helps push me into spending more of my wife's $$ on my addiction 😂 Thanks for squinting through this one for us, Brian. You're a Saint, Camera Crew. My wife would've been a widow by now, with all you put up with 😂 Happy New Realease, Thursday!!! 👍
one servo retracting the whole landing gear system wouldn't bring much weight and they could build it with thin wirelinkages. It's jsut that they are lazzy AF and didn't even try on the F-15 or F-14 that are not that smal :D
hey Brian i have a question does anybody know how to bind a umx to a NEW radio? I had my umx bound to my spektrum dx7 gen one and that radio died on me so i got a spektrum nx7e how do i bind?
Put battery in plane and wait for blink. Then scroll down to bind on remote (after setup) and bind. Don’t be too close and can take more than one try. Good luck
i still have not flown the UMX timber X that you and pilot Ryan and RC saylors signed at the Monticello IL rc festival but i have added a UMX air tractor to my collection And it looks like a Sabre F-86 in the near future lol.
Personally I'm completely over and done with the Eflite UMX line of models due to their servo failure rate. I've got 4 different UMX models, and on all 4 they've had a random aileron servo failure in between packs for no reason. If that wasn't enough, to replace said faulty servo you literally have to tear apart and basically destroy the model just to replace the part. No thanks!
@72voltz17 when you've been extremely lucky so far, as it's well documented on the rcgroups forums their high failure rate amongst the UMX models. Besides that, if and when the servo does fail, you still basically have to destroy the model installing a new one, which personally is a no go for me from here on out.
- Disappointingly low 3min flight time. Cessna Citation had 8 mins. - Should've been EPO in this scale... - Brian plz raise back up quality of your video content. This just below 250g EDF was a highly anticipated subject matter & your vid didn't do justice. U didn't mention EDF size nor show eps & Carbon Fiber internal reinforcements in strong light backdrop.

Yeah, this one SOUNDS good too! Love the new 30mm, so much better than the old 28mm 2S offerings!
Yeah... very nice. Ordered one. I love you folks. Thanks. And ... FU 897. 😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you!!! Glad you're here with us. Thank you!
nice. have my order in!
excellent! Hope you love it!!!
Awesome little powerful jet !!! I wish it came with leds installed ???
Me too...LED's would be VERY nice!
Lol, one day you're going to go take one of your certification tests or get a checkride and there will be that awkward moment when the proctor/evaluator recognizes you from one of these videos.
Like this one!!
It's awesome!
And its 4s!!!

Id like to see an actual first flight right out of the box because I've always had to trim on 1st flight, but your like hands off perfect flight right out of the box. Just about every hh model needs some trimming out of the box. But I get it its all about the money.
Check the video at about 0:00 for that "actual 1st flight". Right out of the box. That's his maiden flight.
@@AL-RCjunkie You must have been there when he unboxed it. 👌

Hi Brian,
I took your advice on a starter plane.
Cool deal
totally is!
NIIIIICE 👌🏻
totally! Love it!
Very cool! What's your favorite scale, military UMX?
Thanks!!
Nice
Thanks!
Hello, a tea made from Oregano reduces excess mucus. Also, dipping a third to a whole teaspoon of Oregano placed in the mouth to suck on for twenty to 45 minutes will reduce mucus and increase breathing. Check it out sometime.
The social ineptness is strong with this one.
@@meazy451 Hello, give it a try it works.
If I like someone, I try to help them if I am able.
By the I'm or have been told that I'm guilty of S.P.A.M. too. It's O.K. though. About once every other year I get a craving for it and purchase a can. Some people go crazy for Spam in a can and eat it like it is chocolate cake. Oh well. " Hey! "
Would this be a good beginner plane?
Your camera person did a really great job filming that tiny bird. Well done.
She is very good! So glad she puts up with me to get great footage ;)
And yeah Horizon brings out mainly micros at the moment, but look at like Heli brands for example, OMP, Goosky they dont back up they still design 700s.
spektrum preset model file for the f86 is missing where did you get yours?
I don't use them, and don't recommend you do either.
@ thank you, I used the manual setup and it works great.
Can one set up flaperons on the UMX F-86?
I'm definitely gonna get this and hopefully they bring back the mig 15 and other cold war jets in this size great review btw
Hope this mod helps those with ic2 questions.
does an SLT6 6 channel transmitter work with the f86
Fly like the big…buuuut only with no wind!!!
LOL - yeah, the wind is a factor, but it doesn't have to be calm. These little UMX planes do a lot better in calm.
Is the weight under remote ID bs?
Yes
Sure is!
Brian use flaperons if you need to slow it down.
All on flap settings no mods required.
If it had had retractable landing gear I definitely would have bought it.
Horizon has addressed this before and most of their customers understand why retracts are completely impractical at this scale.
Thats the same battery my fusion 180 used. I sold the heli but still have the batteries guess I have no choice but to buy this plane😂
If I've already got a few, it helps push me into spending more of my wife's $$ on my addiction 😂
Thanks for squinting through this one for us, Brian.
You're a Saint, Camera Crew.
My wife would've been a widow by now, with all you put up with 😂
Happy New Realease, Thursday!!! 👍
I was actually thinking of trying those batteries in baby Draco when I get them. I’m glad it can handle it!
one servo retracting the whole landing gear system wouldn't bring much weight and they could build it with thin wirelinkages.
Good luck
Can I bind my dxs from my habu sts to this.
Brian, how do I pm you?
Check the ABOUT tab for email address. We are SLOW with private messages, FYI, but we DO check them.
I sent an email reguarding a safety matter. Please take a moment to review it.
Thanks.
Brian you do really need a better runway !!!
i still have not flown the UMX timber X that you and pilot Ryan and RC saylors signed at the Monticello IL rc festival but i have added a UMX air tractor to my collection And it looks like a Sabre F-86 in the near future lol.
#1 Again... 😜🤣😁😎
I swear man my ole lady’s gonna leave me.
At 4s it should fly pretty fast I have a umx Voodoo that flies on 3s pretty fast if this jet doesn't fly faster horizon needs to reevaluate
Who the flip is ur camera man? Give him a RAISE!
No thanks!
I have every Umx plane that’s come out and I’ve never had a failure. I fly almost everyday if the weather is good.
I must say your failure rate is very uncommon .
@72voltz17 when you've been extremely lucky so far, as it's well documented on the rcgroups forums their high failure rate amongst the UMX models. Besides that, if and when the servo does fail, you still basically have to destroy the model installing a new one, which personally is a no go for me from here on out.
@Jduc750 not according to the rcgroups online forums, but hey everyone has their opinions.
Mine have all been bulletproof.
That's a shame, you've had a bad experience. Hope they make it right, some day. Good luck.
I'd be more inclined to watch your videos if 80% of what you said wasn't just rambling and repeating yourself.
Is that clearer?
