Warner Brothers tried to sue the Marx Brothers over the name "A Night in Casablanca" as an infringement on "Casablanca." Groucho countersued, as Warner Brothers has "Brothers in their name. The case was dropped.
This video is now in my favorite video folder, you go into great detail instead of summaries and your humour makes it entertaining instead of boring. You clearly realized that history doesn't need to be boring and I am proud of you as a youtuber. Good job and I will be watching more content like this!
This is the first time I've ever heard about this case and what I find rather interesting and hilarious about it all is the fact that Nintendo approached Universal Pictures to distribute the 2023 Super Mario Brothers animated movie all these years later which included Donkey Kong as a character. It's like it all came full circle and both companies benefitted in the end. Yes, Universal and Nintendo are very different companies today than they were back then, but the irony behind it all is just perfect. xD
Fun fact about king Kong: The director of King Kong Lives (1976) wanted to make crossover with a movie of him , Orca The killer whale (1977) this sadly , only was a thought that the director had THE MORE YOU KNOW
Interesting fact: Sid Sheinburg also tried to meddle another future blockbuster: Back to the Future as he thought the title with the word future wouldnt sell and wanted it be changed to get this "Space Man from Pluto" the comic that one of the peabody kids had been reading when marty crashed in their farm in 1955. The creators were confused on what to do but Spielburg made a joke about it at Sid expense and sid drop the change.
Nice video. I'd love to see more gaming history videos. Perhaps something like how Super Mario Bros saved the gaming industry in America, or perhaps the influence Super Mario 64 has had on the games of today. 👍
I remember the Netflix docu-series High Score actually interviewed John Kirby, Nintendo's defense lawyer before he passed for the episode on early Nintendo. Also he is the namesake of Kirby!
Now we got the full entire circle, they now a partners, collaborators for a Park, and a Movie based on its well known and one of the world's biggest IP (alongside Pokémon) who ever thought that the company sue Nintendo is the company who be friends and collaborate for the park and movies.
honestly king kong was the last thing that came to my mind when i thought of donkey Kong. i doubt many kids has ever seen the original king kong from 1933 since they weren't even thought of when that movie came out. their parents wouldn't even be born yet. they didnt bother trying to sue king kong bundy for his wrestling name. lol
Wow... this is... a change, and I like it! also, um, Universal? You're, uh, a little wacko here, so, just, uh... chill, okay? I didn't think DK would get such a notoriety because of his bigger, badder cousin... Plus, i laugh at their whole ploy, since recently the movie Space Jam: A New Legacy FEATURED KING KONG in a cameo and I saw no lawsuit from them, so.... yeah...
Hey, my guy. You need to do a video on the Rock-n-Roll vs PMC. This was an attempt by Congress (in the 80s, no less) to ban certain types of music, one that failed SPECTACULARLY, btw. The 3 BIGGEST reasons why this assault on Free Speech failed MISERABLY was their choices of musicians: Zappa, who called them out on their hypocrisy, Dee Snider, who they believed was a braindead imbecile (he's very much NOT stupid, btw) and John Denver (who they THOUGHT would side with them. News flash, he didn't side with them. And he ended up comparing them to the Nazis, which is kinda funny).

Wow talk about making yourself stupid due to either lack of research or just being greedy. Love the way they recognised Kirby.
9:00 I love the addition of the surprised Pikachu face
Funny how Nintendo was the one being bullied and now it's the bully.
You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
“I view litigation as a profit center”
-universal lawyer guy
No, that was Sid Sheinberg himself.
@@connormclernon26 ah, right.
Still scummy though

Which goes to show you that Sid Sheinburg was a greedy prick.

Well this is different

Did you miss the part where this happened in 1982 or
Funny how the most powerful character in all the Nintendo franchises was named after a lawyer.
It was the NES that got me into gaming.
"Donkey, does that mean king?"
I noticed that you used the 1991 Universal logo, in the video and in the thumbnail, that version of the logo did not exist in the time
You're mocking of universal is insufferable! I love it. Let me just makes my day. It was ridiculous and stupid.

Great video!
Another thing other than trains I’m interested in life, is video games. Primarily Mario and Sonic.
Enjoying the different content
Was it Midway or Tiger or Nintendo? Those were the big game names for the gen x kids. I have no memory of universal of being a game maker
The train man strikes again!
Defend Nintendo in court and have your name immortalized as a staple Nintendo character. Sweet deal.
OML - The garbage B roll!
