The part about having a hard time separating the lyrics from instruments is actually something that is done intentionally for all the Persona games. Most of the songs are just "background tracks" and the lyrics being "jumbled" is a very common theme across the games. Great video!
Yeah, the reason that these tracks are in english across regions is because the lyrics are meant to fade into the background while you're playing, so they aren't too distracting. For a japanese audience, the English lyrics are even harder to decypher, which makes them even better suited to being background music.

I would also include "want to be close" in there, though I can't really decide if I prefer the reload or the og version. (instruments and balance are a bit different between them)
I believe atlus doesn't want the lyrics/vocals to be distracting while playing because it is a text heavy game, so that might be why the vocals are lower in the mix and blend in a bit with the instruments. This is apparently also why they make all their ingame songs in english, they didn't want Japanese players to be focusing on the lyrics, but they also didn't want english speaking players to be left out so they got a Japanese singer who doesn't really speak english which makes a lot of the lyrics hard to discern. No idea if that's actually their intention with all that but that's what I've heard repeated in the community at least
Something I really loved about this song is the tiny fragments of conversations you can hear from time to time. It feels as if you're at the park, just after school. Listening to your MP3 alongside your special person by using a dual headphone jack and just chilling...
This has quickly become one of my favourite Persona overworld themes. The rapper (Lotus Juice) actually has a lot of range, which you can hear more of in his non Persona music. His cadence works really well for chill tracks and he killed it on this one. I also think it’s pretty cool how the composer Atsushi Kitajoh, was able to bring over some of his P5 musical style and still make it fit into P3’s atmosphere.
Omg it's not just me who got the p5 vibes from this then, genuinely this song I could see fitting into p5 asw, and it's crazy how well it works for p3 tho
some of the tracks on this gave me serious persona Q/Q2 vibes, which kitajoh also composed for. if you listen closely enough to its going down now, you can hear a bit of light the fire in the night but im not sure if its just me
I cannot stop hearing "Memories of you" in the background. I know it is the ending theme but it is present in almost all of the songs of this game in some way so my mind always goes back to that song.
Real happy they’re putting more on the Leitmotif of the game when the remake came out. Makes when the memories tracks do start hitting makes it all the more impactful. Especially Memories of You.
the rapper is indeed the same guy,. i agree that this song does fit his voice better, i think he's better at these chill songs. Also the female singer probably isn't an english speaker, so the lyrics can be quite hard to decipher. That's the case for all the persona games i think.
yes you hit it on the nail, all the singers are japanese and are not fluent english speakers although lotus juice was raised in america so his english is perfect though it might be a difficult to understand at times what he is saying when rapping haha
Lotus Juice (the male singer) is actually an English speaker. Don't know exactly how fluent he is but he has livestreamed before only speaking English. If I remember right, he was born in Japan but moved to the U.S when he was 8 years old. I personally think his voice fits in really anything. He just has that voice that makes any song he's in 10 times more enjoyable and hype.
I think he had better raps in the Persona 3 movie in general. He kinda fumbled the bag on burn my dread final for this game but absolutely nailed it on the movie version its probably the best version.

The songs' rhythms change for their use. "It's Going Down Now" is used in battle scenes, so that sense of urgency and finality needs to be there. I think this song is used more in daily activities, where the characters are socializing and just being mellow. So the songs really do play to the scenes in which they appear, just like any good movie soundtrack should. Love the layers of Rhodes piano though.
I’m glad you liked it! I remember listening to a 15 second clip of it a few months ago and I just knew I needed to listen to the whole thing. There was just something about it that drew me to it and I’m excited to hear your analysis on it.
I loved this song before, but now that you mentioned the violin sequences in the back, I can't stop thinking about it and is one of my favorite songs. It's crazy how such a simple addition can change the whole thing. Awesome video!
Lotus Juice, and Azumi Takahashi are the male and female vocalists for all of the p3r songs respectively, while Azumi has only been on P3R, Lotus Juice has been doing vocals for persona music since the original Persona 3, in 2006. he's also done songs in Persona 2: Innocent Sin, P4A Ultimax, Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, Persona 4, Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth, Persona 5 Royal, Persona 5 Strikers, and Persona 5 Tactica. basically he's the "persona singer" Edit: thanks to @DevLanket_TheStachepool, for also adding that he's sang for JoJo's Bizzare Adveture part 2, with the song Overdrive
The vocalist is called Lotus Juice, and he's been the core male vocal in all the original Persona 3 OST. He's done the remixes for Persona 3 Reload too.
You probably prefer Lotus Juice in this one because this is a new song for the remake, and not a rearranged old one intentionally trying to keep the cheesy old vibe.
I remember when a bit of the song was released on Twitter, and I listened to it and when the girl part played, man, I jumped out of my chair that shit was SO GOOD! sigh I love this game/series.
They actually do these live concerts where they have the vocalists for Persona perform with a live band. There's several performances from previous years still on RUclips.
3:20 I think the mix is low because this is a game soundtrack, so they want the player to just feel the vibe of the song and not necessarily hear what the singer is saying. If the vocals are too high, it will conflict with the voices of the characters in game.
lotus juice for sure feels like a complete hit or miss on tracks. From what I can tell he doesn't have a huge amount of power on the production side of things and just has to sort of find a flow in any given track that's handed over to him, so tracks like this where he has more freedom end up feeling way more natural compared to ones like the previous one where the instrumental for the rap part kind of feels like it's asking for a very specific flow out of him (in my opinion)
I feel like comparing the two Mass Destruction versions might help get a hold on the way the new mixes bury the vocals a bit, because that's a major difference especially in the new version of that track. Also, Changing Seasons got such a huge glowup in the new version. Spectacular song now that I used to not really give much of a second thought to in the original.
I think “It's going down now” should be the next Persona 3 reload song you check out! I knew you'd love “Color your night”, it's such a beautiful piece of music man
My favorite "old song" that got a serious glow-up with the new Reload arrangement is "Changing Seasons." I love moving the melodic line to the vocals (which weren't there before, it was played by horns in the original) and changing the spoken-word French to spoken-word English is kind of a side-grade to me. But it just sounds more complete now. Solid song.
Persona has quite a bit of engrish in the singing, a lot of the singers aren't native English speakers, pretty sure the vocalist for P5 didn't even speak English at all and was just coached on pronunciation for her vocals, so a lot of the lyrics can get lost/misheard, which for a game OST I think is really the point, it's meant to be a vibe and just seamlessly blend into the world, which Persona does masterfully.
I love the 736 passing at 9:48. It’s a common sound but it sounds good with that minor7 voicing compared to the dim. Reminds me of “hakujitsu” by King Gnu which has that as part of the main motif. Great reaction as always Tony
I agree, the lead vocal laying on the minor 3rd there in that spot, considering it's the only place in the form where it happens, is a 99 on the goosebump scale for me every time. This track really has a nice form, giving both male and female vocals their own unique sections, but only 8 bars each as to not interrupt or change the flow otherwise, while still constantly building the energy overall to transition back into the loop.
I recommend "Mass Destruction". Its arguably the most infamous song in Persona 3, and for good reason too. I personally prefer the original version, but Reload's version is also really amazing.
When this music played while playing the game i had to pause what im doing and got goosebumps and filled with awe cause this song is so feel good relax and groovy.
I csnt wait for this to premire! Have you thought of doing its going down now? Im sure youd love it! And throwback on the eve songs but please if you ever get the chance, try listening to literary nonsense from eve!
This masterpiece might be a good bgm once atlus decide to make an animated series of persona 3. I imagine it playing whenever the mc goes to school and socialize with others, especially those important events
I think something important to consider with the mix is that these songs play during gameplay. I think its intended to blend together more so you can kinda tune the lyrics out and vibe without it getting too repetitive
@critical_6164 idk wtf hes talking about when he gets technical about music it's just cool to see someone more educated on the technical stuff break it down
Glad you liked this one. "It's going down now" is a fun song from this game. Also the openings and endings from the anime "Urusei Yatsura" by MASIONdes would be good reactions.
Most osts in the persona games are amazing. It would be cool if after these I went and listened to other people's ones like p4, p5, p3 original fes and psp and also p5 strickers
I believe Atlus mixes the lyrics closely with the instrumental on purpose. A lot of these songs play when you're at a part of the game where you are reading text, softening the vocals (to some degree) makes it easier to read the words on your screen when all ur brain wants to do is jam out to the background track. This is speculation though
The intro section is the same melody as “When the Moon’s Reaching Out Star” which is the song that played in the original when the player explores town. Now, in this new remake, Color Your Night plays during sections when the player can explore the time at night.
The whole soundtrack for this game is absolutely amazing. I didn’t get to experience the original game but I really the OG songs that I’ve heard here on RUclips. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with P3R and hearing the differences btw the originals and remixes. So, yes, I highly recommend you play this game if you get the opportunity. You won’t regret it.
In the game this song is used for when you go out at night, and it's really chill and nice. Would love to see you react to it's going down. Also it might be fun for you to react to both mass destruction og and reload, the reload remix for the new game is a bit controversial might be fun to see if you can guess why but the original is great
"Changing Seasons" from Persona 3 Reload is also really good although its not as long. "Its going down now" of course as you mightve noticed also a banger. Other than that honestly anything persona i will be watching
first time poppin by, i can immediately tell your brain is different, i dont think it takes a musical genius to understand how sick this song is, but i do appreciate your break down
Lotus juice is a great rapper, really any song he does is amazing. He’s in a lot of persona songs. It’s funny you said he has a tupac cadence to him, he’s japanese and grew up in New Jersey so he has a little bit of that accent.
I'm a Persona 3 Reload player, but I've seen Persona 3 (not-Reload) players be shocked and amazed when Lotus Juice (the rapper) starts singing, which gives me the impression that he never did that in the previous Persona 3 games. I think it's a fantastic choice, he does it so well.
I remember watching a video that Lotus Juice made about when he was hired to do vocals. I believe one of his comments was that the lyrics were written by someone who doesn't speak english. Which made sense because i remember the lyrics in the original were a bit funny at times.
I went through your channel the past week watching your reactions and thought I'd recommend listening to some tracks from street fighter 3: third strike I personally enjoy the opening theme, character select, akumas theme, kens theme, hugos theme, and makotos theme. The entire soundtrack is great though and holds up as my favorite streetfighter for the vibe it gives off Edit: ibuki's theme is great as well
Apart from the male rapper, every persona lead singer actually has 0 idea about the English language and what they are actually singing about which is quite impressive that they were able to nail the words properly some times without ever really hearing the strong Japanese accent Japanese people usually have when they try to speak English
This is simply not true. Singers do a lot of work on foreign languages all the time, especially trained ones. I don't speak German, but that does not mean that I don't know how to use IPA and practice according to it.
This song is actually also filled with musical references, the most obvious being the starting keyboard, the melody is actually a common motif in the game most notably used in the end credits theme "Kimi no Kioku" Also, the mixing here is a godsend compared to the "Burn my Dread" bonus track.
I appreciate your comment about the mix being so low, Tony. Between Full Moon and Full Life and It’s Going Down Now the rap and the bass are very close together in terms of their register (I hope I’m using that term correctly) And it should be noted I love all 3 songs. That said, especially “It’s Going Down Now” it’s very hard to hear the lyrics in the first verse
A lot of the songs in Persona 3 are upbeat but slowed down they become immediately tragic, *Spoilers* The MC sacrifices himself to save humanity becoming the seal binding Nyx. So the songs seem like a lament to his fate and a celebration of his short life.

I love moving the melodic line to the vocals (which weren't there before, it was played by horns in the original) and changing the spoken-word French to spoken-word English is kind of a side-grade to me. But it just sounds more complete now. Solid song.
Lotus Juice(the male singer) normally raps, so hearing him sing with an angelic voice was so shocking. He has a great sound.
Definitely check out Memories of you, Changing seasons and its going down now
I love the 736 passing at 9:48.
The best song to walk at night, They couldn't have done it better
I csnt wait for this to premire! Have you thought of doing its going down now? Im sure youd love it!
And throwback on the eve songs but please if you ever get the chance, try listening to literary nonsense from eve!
I need to do an Eve song soon , its been awhile
A lot of leitmotifs in this song that make it land even harder. I love persona 3 man
I LOVE THIS SOOOOOOOONG 🔥🔥🔥🔥
This masterpiece might be a good bgm once atlus decide to make an animated series of persona 3. I imagine it playing whenever the mc goes to school and socialize with others, especially those important events
I need this playing in my life whenever I walk down the street
"Hey" is my favorite part of this song. Almost always makes me cheer "hey" in the game too.
"When the moon reaches for the stars" is another great persona track
I think something important to consider with the mix is that these songs play during gameplay. I think its intended to blend together more so you can kinda tune the lyrics out and vibe without it getting too repetitive
I dont understand music at all but i do enjoy your very informative and creative vids. Appreciate it!
wdym?
@critical_6164 idk wtf hes talking about when he gets technical about music it's just cool to see someone more educated on the technical stuff break it down
Glad you liked this one. "It's going down now" is a fun song from this game. Also the openings and endings from the anime "Urusei Yatsura" by MASIONdes would be good reactions.
Memories of you Reload from the same game is another great song!
I always stay on the map this song plays on long enough to hear the chorus. It's so good
Glad you’re doing more persona Tony! Love your videos!
Most osts in the persona games are amazing. It would be cool if after these I went and listened to other people's ones like p4, p5, p3 original fes and psp and also p5 strickers
That’s another one of the things I was looking forward to before Persona 3’s remake came out. I loved 5’s so yeah lol.
This song deserves a grammy its so much perfection ✨♥️
Literal chills every single line in this song.
That bridge from 8:32 sounds a little bit like another part from a song named Unknown from M.E. ver.1 from Sonic Adventure
Glad I'm not the only one who thought that too lol
changing seasons reload, it's going down now, memories of you reload are all amazing
Hell yeah was waiting for this one to drop
The intro section is the same melody as “When the Moon’s Reaching Out Star” which is the song that played in the original when the player explores town. Now, in this new remake, Color Your Night plays during sections when the player can explore the time at night.
That'd awesome
Joy too
Persona music is just so goated can't believe these albums come with a game
The whole soundtrack for this game is absolutely amazing. I didn’t get to experience the original game but I really the OG songs that I’ve heard here on RUclips. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with P3R and hearing the differences btw the originals and remixes. So, yes, I highly recommend you play this game if you get the opportunity. You won’t regret it.
Very cozy, veryl chill. Never forget once you hear it.
In the game this song is used for when you go out at night, and it's really chill and nice. Would love to see you react to it's going down. Also it might be fun for you to react to both mass destruction og and reload, the reload remix for the new game is a bit controversial might be fun to see if you can guess why but the original is great
I need you to react to memories of you from this game. Such a beautiful track that's so special
We making it out of the dark hour with this one bois
Its going down now is an amazing song, original to reload, its one of the two battle themes, the other being mass destruction.
Mass destruction, It’s going down now, and changing seasons should also be done from this soundtrack. All bangers. Especially it’s going down now
Even if you don't play the persona you will still be attracted to the songs
"Changing Seasons" from Persona 3 Reload is also really good although its not as long. "Its going down now" of course as you mightve noticed also a banger. Other than that honestly anything persona i will be watching
first time poppin by, i can immediately tell your brain is different, i dont think it takes a musical genius to understand how sick this song is, but i do appreciate your break down
I can't wait for him to look at It's Going Down Now the ambush battle theme
Lotus juice is a great rapper, really any song he does is amazing. He’s in a lot of persona songs. It’s funny you said he has a tupac cadence to him, he’s japanese and grew up in New Jersey so he has a little bit of that accent.
I've been waiting for this!
Color your night makes me just sit down and relax
Been waiting this vídeo!
That music just cleans my soul.
It’s going down gotta be next dude!
Now it’s time to playyyyy the gammeeeeee lol the music and mix definitely fits in context
I remember watching a video that Lotus Juice made about when he was hired to do vocals. I believe one of his comments was that the lyrics were written by someone who doesn't speak english. Which made sense because i remember the lyrics in the original were a bit funny at times.
the ost knows this ain't our first visit to this story... most songs gives me this message
I went through your channel the past week watching your reactions and thought I'd recommend listening to some tracks from street fighter 3: third strike
I personally enjoy the opening theme, character select, akumas theme, kens theme, hugos theme, and makotos theme.
The entire soundtrack is great though and holds up as my favorite streetfighter for the vibe it gives off
Edit: ibuki's theme is great as well
The flow goes crazy in this song i like it
I'm started to play persona 3 reload now, and enjoying the night time❤
Apart from the male rapper, every persona lead singer actually has 0 idea about the English language and what they are actually singing about which is quite impressive that they were able to nail the words properly some times without ever really hearing the strong Japanese accent Japanese people usually have when they try to speak English
This is simply not true. Singers do a lot of work on foreign languages all the time, especially trained ones. I don't speak German, but that does not mean that I don't know how to use IPA and practice according to it.
If you haven't already reacted to it I highly recommend it's going down now in this game It is one of the best tracks in the game
Saw the Full Moon video and this as well, you might actually like the new battle theme "It's Going Down Now" from Persona 3 Reload!
YOU HAVE TO REACT TO DJ-HISS! ITS SO INCREDIBLE AND WAS SUCH A VIBE!
This song is actually also filled with musical references, the most obvious being the starting keyboard, the melody is actually a common motif in the game most notably used in the end credits theme "Kimi no Kioku"
Also, the mixing here is a godsend compared to the "Burn my Dread" bonus track.
The electric organ makes the track really pop off in some stretches
When someone’s gonna tell me that “no need musical education” I show them this one masterpiece. It couldn’t exist if would be opposite
I appreciate your comment about the mix being so low, Tony. Between Full Moon and Full Life and It’s Going Down Now the rap and the bass are very close together in terms of their register (I hope I’m using that term correctly)
And it should be noted I love all 3 songs. That said, especially “It’s Going Down Now” it’s very hard to hear the lyrics in the first verse
An awesome video Tony, you should really check out find your flame from final fantasy XVI though. It’s awesome
would love for you to listen more to the persona 3 reload ost! it is one of my favorite video game osts of all time for persona in general
I REALLY recommend listening to "its going down now"
This song on my first full play had me literally high on life
Mannn, the. groove is real!! As a drummer/bassist I appreciated Lotus' music catalogue.
A lot of the songs in Persona 3 are upbeat but slowed down they become immediately tragic, *Spoilers*
The MC sacrifices himself to save humanity becoming the seal binding Nyx.
So the songs seem like a lament to his fate and a celebration of his short life.
