I have the 2019 wr450f here in Aus and you can fully road reg it, I just have rec reg and put the off road kit on it which it comes with. The kit includes a different air box screen without the snorkel and bigger exhaust end pipe and braided brake line also has three different tail light options to chose from, I have had the bike for a couple of months and luv it.
Thumbs up for the bike, thumbs down for the music, you online mags really need to sort out if you are a dirtbike company or a music company, just bad. Stick to bikes.
Just sold my WR426, was an absolutely magic bike! Sad to see it go, currently rebuilding a 1999 kx250 and once that’s done I’ll be looking at a new WR450
I have a '19 YZ450FX, and I'm working on taming it down for trail riding. The WR being down on power from the YZ and YZFX is a good thing. The WR is quieter, too. The YZ's are LOUD! If you are trail riding, go with the WR unless you are AA level. I'm not.
I recently bought a brand new WR450F and mine is fully programable?? I don’t understand why the bikes are so different. I bought mine in Australia though so maybe it’s different but the bike is so much better then the way you express it.
Byron Evans I got a 18 removed the throttle restricter air box restrictor full exhaust and have the tuner. Could of sworn the 19mdl was tuneable via phone
Byron Evans US bike is locked Ecu, restricted muffler and a throttle stop for California emission rules (green sticker or whatever the f it is) so California rules screw everything up for rest of the country. Doesn’t come with competition kit like the Aus model.
Byron Evans yeah I had an 18 450F for a minute but it was too much bike for what I do but I’m thinking about getting the WR to replace my 2012 KTM 500. Here in Colorado it’s easy to make them street legal. Just need street legal tyres, horn, brake light, mirror etc and get a cop to tick off on it. If it wasn’t for California they would be sold everywhere else in the US uncorked like an FX. I’ve watch a few vids from Geoff Ballard over there. He’s got a big stiffy for the WR....If it’s good enough him, it’s good enough for me.
@@raymondlangille2886 I was thinking the same thing 6 months ago. It's not as easy as it was years ago but you can still do it (maybe not California) Back in January, I was searching for a new hardcore dual sport. I didn't want a KTM or Honda 450L or Beta. After some research, I took delivery of a street-legal 2019 YZ450FX with the programmable EFI, map switch and 53 hp at the rear wheel. Trying to tame it down. The power is a little too much sometimes. Even if Yamaha made a street-legal 450, it would be a heavier and slower version of the current WR. I still wish that they would do it because the current 450 models only need a 6th gear and a beefier subframe (and maybe a little more oil capacity). I know Yamaha must be thinking about it since the release of the Honda 450L.
As an owner of a 2019 WR 450F, this bike wouldn't be a good dual sport. But, the WR 450F makes for a great off-road bike. If you want a 450cc dual sport, the Honda CRF450L would be the better choice.
@@danielc5205are you serious? Lol. I put 20k miles on a 2012 WR450. 20% trails, 80% supermoto trim. The gearbox alone makes it wonderful for supermoto duty in my opinion.
If you are riding more woods than open trails, the WR might be easier to manage. I have the '19 YZ450FX. The FX is almost too powerful for tight trails but it has a map switch and programmable EFI that helps to tame it down. It's a nice feature.
By about 2 1/2 HP. The CDF450L is about 47hp stock. The WR450 makes about 49 1/2-50hp stock. Not much different really. If they made a DOT version of the WR it would loose 8-10hp. The Honda motor has more potential to be uncorked than the WR, IMHO, but I hear these new WRs are virtually indestructible. Yamaha has said the service life is 1250 hours or more under normal riding conditions. That's about 7 KTM rebuilds worth........

It depends on what you're doing. I sold a '17 300 XC to buy the new YZ450FX. I liked the lightweight of the 300 and the cooler running engine. The 450FX however is more stable, has better power delivery and MUCH better suspension than the 300 KTM. Both bikes have too much power for woods IMO.
