Hey! Super great opening! Very clever. Rare to see original stuff and you pulled it off. I can imagine you spending a full day in front of your laptop working on that as I sometimes do on a video. And it payed off nicely for you. A great video and a nice view count. BTW, I wrote to you over a year ago when you were on Reeshard's old travel show and I told you you'd be great next door neighbors, if that rings a bell. I don't think I had my channel then but watching all of you YTers on Reeshard's show inspired me! And my daughter was a frequent guest of his too. BTW, I hope Reeshard is doing well. Perhaps you know. I'd think ifsaid he got laid off with the economy problems at the time but if so why not just make the move to Thailand? I miss his show. Congratulations on your move. Indeed I remember your comment! It put a smile on my face as I recall. The original idea came simply enough from the famous line “There’s no place like home.” My first thought was to do a video titled “There’s no place like Khanom” and it the background of the thumbnail the word “Khanom” wold have the word “home” with the opacity reduced. Then the idea just kept spinning and growing to include the opening with Tomo playing Dorothy and the whole spinning house. It had enough of a parallel to topic I wanted to discuss that it felt that I could marry the two together in a creative way that might serve to keep people watching. In the end I thought “this title won’t make people watch” So I opted for what I did because the words Koh Samui are highly searched. Anyways, I truly appreciate you taking notice and taking the time to say as much. You are the first to have even commented on the actual opening. Yeah, too sad what happened to Richard an it seems to have hit him pretty heavy. Did you see that hiking video he did? I’m not sure if he was milking the emotion for clicks (and lord knows he wouldn’t be the first person to have done that) but it did come across that he was in a heavy place. But that was a long time ago now so, I hope he’s back on his feet and doing well. I’ll take a look at your channel when I get a chance. I’ve got a lot going on at the moment but will check it out. Thanks again 🙏 Ed

Great choice. Went there in August to escape the rain in Ranong where I live. Nakhon Kanom is really nice and quiet with beautiful beaches. Could imagine living there, too
We’ve been here 10 months now and very happy with our decision to move here. No place is perfect. It’s all about figuring out what are the things that are most important to you and letting go of the rest as much as possible. (And periodically traveling to scratch that itch😉).
I've lived on koh samui now for 9 years and things have changed and the prices have gone crazy.... My plans are similar to yours... What's the average rental price for a small one bed villa in your area?
Too early for me to have that answer but rest assured we will be doing some research on the topic soon! I can say this - not nearly as many place open to rent here. People say “It’s like Samui 30 years ago” lots of open land. The RE explosion here has yet to happen.
Well, welcome to you and thank you for taking the time out to comment! I hope you enjoy our work and that we can give you a reason to laugh every once in a while.

Glad you enjoyed the music, it’s always key to my work. Best of luck with your prep! It can be tough downsizing but trust me. You need so much less here to live, especially clothing!
Congratulations. Khanom is unique and should be on the list of anyone looking for a quiet place to retire to. You don't need to have beachfront property as there is easy access to Haad Na Dan beach. Note this isn't the only beach in Khanom District and there are many locations to pick. Staying inland is cheaper, quieter and with easier access to local food and stalls. The beach at Na Dan while not built up like any at Koh Samui, is still taken up by tourist outlets. Big shout to CC Beach Bar & Restaurant. 🙂
I'm in Sichon, it has some really nice untouchable beaches, not traffic and very friendly locals. Also more westerners come here. Khanom/Sichon perfect for slow life. If i wanna have party i can jump on the ferry and go to nearby islands

Hi Ed, great video. Can you confirm the name of the place and if it’s in Thailand or Malaysia? Also what is the cost of living and prices like.., is it as low priced as Thailand outside the main tourist islands and towns? Cheers
I went to Koh Samui for the first time this year because family was visited. Extremely strange place. Doesn't feel anything like Thailand to me (coming from the north). All I saw were Europeans and even the staff at many areas were not Thai. The entire 5 days I didn't even see a single Thai tourist. Unlikely I would ever go back when there are so many other places like Khanom to visit.
Hahahah my brother just texted me this morning after watching the new one joking “Documentaries next?” Thanks for subbing, Randy very much appreciate you doing that and taking the time to write.
Khanom and Sichon is nice and quiet (have been there a few times) but transportation to international airports is a bit of a hassle. If you would like friends and family to come to visit often, getting there is rather inconvenient for them. Same if you want to travel internationally. It can be rather isolating as a result.
Thanks for your thoughts. The airport is about 90 minutes away. Samui airport was much more convenient but the pluses here for us far outweigh the minuses. We recently traveled internationally and leaving our car very close to the airport cost us just ฿100 per day, and included pick up and drop off service! That’s hard to beat! We don’t feel isolated at all but that’s just our opinion. Living in a smaller community with good friends makes us feel very much at home!
@@mikdev62 For us we LOVED the convenience of Samui's airport, especially given the number of times Tomo flies home to visit. 15 (to 25) mins. vs. an hour or more is a noticeable difference IMO. But, when you balance it all out, we don't go to the airport all that often and the life here day to day vs. Samui is much more our style and what we were looking for when we dreamed of moving here. So, giving that one thing up is not an issue when weighed against what we gain.

Good decision moving away from Samui. It’s an overpriced bore. Plenty of more interesting, overall superior places throughout Thailand. Samui’s good for no more than a few weeks. Getting on and off is always a headache. Much preferable to be on the mainland, where travel to other interesting places is both easier and more flexible assuming you have your own car. Why get stuck on one over blown tourist Island, when there is so much more out there in this beautiful country? And you are only about an hour drive from the Surat Thani airport, which is much cheaper to fly in and out of than Samui. FYI, you are overpaying for your dragon fruit. Foreigners price for sure, watch out that it doesn’t translate to other higher ticket things over time.
