I just watched it again Simon for the 3rd time. It brings back so many memories for me. I wonder if I was fireman on any of your clips? Especially around Germiston and Kimberley. Watching all you gricers chasing the trains I recognized many of your cars and a few faces also. Im sure you and I met loads along the way, especially Orange river. Thanks again, Richard Niven
Lovely to see and hear some rare footage of a condensing loco ❤ thanks Simon, brilliant stuff

Absolutely fantastic! Brings back memories of traveling to Cape Town from Salisbury, one can almost smell the smoke and the smuts in your eyes.
Thank you for your kind comment.
Amazing video clip. This shows most of the lines that were still going in the 80s and many of which I worked as a fireman. Thanks for posting
Thank you. I tried to always get to as many different lines with operating steam.

Thanks Richard, I do remember you especially when you were firing to John Gilberthorpe. Quite a few sequences in some of my later videos.
How come the condenser tender wasn't preserved?
The label "White Train" should read "Drakensberg express". You can see the green coaches with the monogram in the middle.
