No I wasn't counting I'm afraid! I was aware that not many people had passed, but was more aware that a 30 minute plus descent on the drops was giving me back ache, and numb fingers on the braking! Good for you for watching the whole clip! I actually found the Mollard descent a lot more technical, and a lot more difficult.
the guy is another Paolo Salvodelli - did not see anyone pass him - hope the risk wasn't fueled by GoPro - thanks for the upload dude - average descent speed = 23 KM / 23 mins = 1 KM / 1 MIN = 60 KMH
I'm pretty comfortable descending at speed so I guess that's part of it. The bike is also an aero frame with some deep section wheels on it which helps reduce wind drag but it is a bit heavier as a result. If you look through the ascents, you will see that I'm not climbing as fast as others though, although I could always try to get a bit fitter! ;-)
I actually sat through and watched the whole thing and I was more nervous watching you before the descent! Well done though. I too like picking folks off when descending. You must have passed 50+ people. Did you count?
That captures why we like cycling up mountains (oh and the view at the top!)
Great, speedy descent, well done!
thank you for sharing. my heartrate went up just watching this!
This video deserves more views. Fantastic stuff, well done!
Thanks for this! I've amended the video title, but not sure I have the energy to re-edit the opening title!
Thanks for the kind comments mazzepa1 much appreciated. Feel free to share the video!
The guys at the top were at one of the official water stops. I guess some were admiring the view also!

Dam dude you were flying - good job! What's with everyone standing in the middle of the road at the top of the climb? Crazy

whoa - he even dropped Mr Red Polka Dot jersey's ass cold !!!
I finished pretty much middle of the pack. About 2100, if my memory serves me right.
Its a FeltAR4. Not your typical hill climbing bike to be honest, but may have given a slight advantage on the downhill, not too sure though!
Just called on this video. Pretty amazing how much faster you are descending.
Is it your bike or the other competitor on the brakes ?
Love it! gonna do Etape this year for my 40th B'day present, how did you go about it?
Hi. I sent you a mail regarding this video some days ago. I don't know if you have seen it...?
Nice video btw. Makes me want to do the race sometime.
It's Col de La Madeleine and not Col Du Madeleine. But congratulations, very good descent !
just out of interest, what frame are you using?
